This was a lot of fun! Learned some things along the way as well! Thank you once again for being a good friend and for allowing me the opportunity to do this little experiment together! I hope this does very well for you and i hope everyone enjoys the video! You deserve it my friend and much love too all of you out there!
This was unacceptable, Kevin! Especially the schedule and the piping! 🤣
@@Lanaris99 so... in other words! It was PERFECT! 🤣
@WhoKnowzYo Can you share the seed location?
I would genuinely enjoy a full series around saving people's bases, this was really interesting and fun to watch.
@@pandora3g399 I'm just now seeing this! I'm sorry! Ummm.. I think so? I know it's in echos discord! I'll try to hunt it down
"and one issue I see is its cycle 100 and theyre still on meal wood..."
....... [deletes all my cycle 280 meal wood]
Mealwood isnt an issue. Eating ONLY mealwood is an issue. With an aquatuner and pip ranch you can easily have a system that grows infinite berries and sleet wheats for infinite non spoiling berry sludges for mid game
I'm on cycle 700-something, and still growing mealwood... although I'm not feeding it to my dupes. Just wanted to try out sage hatch ranching for... the funsies? And so much free dirt in my colony because of wild pips. Although I am now down to 350ish tons of it, so I should probably start cutting back on the mealwood... probably on the hatches, too, but I could feed them 13 other ways, instead.
If there is a lot of pips and you look at the amount of dirt you have every now and then. It's not a problem. I'm doing that.
But it's just because I'm lazy.
And I have an infinite amount of dirt so I haven't been forced to switch so I haven't.
I’m on cycle 1964 and still have millwood
500 cycles in and mealwood is still my emergency food❤
That was awesome! I encourage you to do more of these "fix my colony" videos. Biffa plays does this for cities skylines and I love seeing the investigation, the troubleshooting, the testing and seeing the results. I always learn something more about how to play this game better.
Biffa is a pro for sure.
@@EchoRidgeGaming As are you my friend, but he doesn't do ONI. 🙂
Ah, a Biffa enjoyer 🍵
I also think this type of series is great since I love Biffa's city traffic fix series.
"It's cycle 122 and they're still on mealwood"
I'm feeling hella judged right now
I've never seen a problem with meal lice until T3 food is set up, then the remaining dirt on the map goes to the Drecko farm.
I've always stuck with Bristle Berries because its often super easy for an early setup, but it takes some finagling to get a glow buck stuck in the room with them.
"I'm assuming the hatch that came with the colony was eaten a long time ago" As he hovers past a living hatch.
Hatches only live 100 cycles.
... I wonder what did happen to my starting hatch... huh 😮
@@WhoKnowzYo When it became meat, either a dup ate it, the hatch that replaced it ate it, or it spoiled, became rot, then polluted dirt.
@@barongerhardt I understand that, but it was more that he was implying that there are no hatches any longer at that moment before he saw it later in the video.
The way we're fixing this thing is... starting over. And the way we're going to fix this other thing is... starting over. And this other thing? You've got it! Tear it down and start over!
Noooo, Shads was supposed to STAY in pajamas! So sad!
YEA!! SHADS WAS SUPPOSE TO STAY IN PAJAMAS! ugh....
yup every time I find a problem I start a new colony
I watched the stream... it was HILARIOUS watching Echo's first attempt to "fix" it. But it's great to see what he actually did.
Honestly, I didn't think we would save everyone! 😂 proud of him!
I’ve also saw the stream, and i can say that this video is like seeing a date for the first time ans the live is like 3 years in a relationship… the youtube didn’t throw all the punch of the live 😝
Better scheduling meta: Replace all the work with bathroom time. Only have downtime and sleep. The dupes will go when they want to go, making scheduling bathrooms "less difficult". Then, they will work during the rest of the bathroom time when not using the bathroom. Also, if you're panicked about dirt, make outhouse bathrooms near worksites, and 3 composters per outhouse.
Also, the lit workspace buff is great for the bathroom and the kitchen when time is of the essence and can be put on a dupe sensor to preserve watts. With mealwood, you lose dirt per mealwood-outhouse cycle but at a much slower rate. Get off mealwood asap. It is an mid game hidden boss.
Mush farm is critical early game with how few it takes to feed a dupe.
Surprised you didn't make 4ish wheels for power, but the coal will help with the mushrooms, so I get that.
Cheers to stabilizing the base! More of this!
bathrooms are affected by lit workspace??? how have i never known...
this makes dupes use the toilets twice per cycle, not a good way to spend time running back and forth for half full bladder
That staircase pipe hurts my soul....
Appreciate this "repair" work, always good to see other takes on the game, and reminders of where we all started. Cheers to WhoKnowzYo for being a good sport and offering this up!
Omg, I wish there were more of these! You're doing great man.
Honestly I wish more people were doing these types of videos. It helps me when I am working on figuring out what is wrong with, and fixing my colony.
my colony ok and fck as on my main world water got too hot and i dont see that in time right now i fixing it but my other world is nice but i only keep two people both really skill basic i let people die who i dont think can be skill or cant save and plan to do better until i make a better base as i new to the game but as for animal farming i dont know what to do fully so i look for what i need basic i got a animal who poop slime and using that slime for air i plan on make this better by setting a way to clean that air but i have not let done this as to why i keep only two people can i really need to change what my people do sometime i got them all building or cooking i can have more people but i have not fully set up the base to have more people even more then 6 and that will point me to death i hoping to understand water set out more to fix all my mistake in fact my farming not great main because of seed i got hoping i get more seed
This was really great. I would love to see you do more of these and continue expanding on them. Thanks for sharing this.
This is a cool video idea, You could do an entire series with it.
I'd personally love to watch more vids like this!
He did used to! Its in the playlist called colony fixer upper. If he gets more submissions in the discord he'll probably do more
Ooo this is a great video template. You could ask your patreon members to send you their failing colonies and make videos fixing them up!
We also have a new channel in the discord, so everyone can if they want ❤
I second this, great idea!
Awesome idea, I would love more of this kind of content here!
I would 100% watch more videos of you reviewing/critiquing/repairing a bunch of different colony saves, I feel like a lot of ONI tutorials assume you're starting from the beginning and not that you're mid game and have already screwed yourself lol, so they don't really tell you how to recover from those mistakes which to me is preferable to starting over.
One of my favourite series on this channel. Pls do a lot more fixer uppers
It's crazy how Francis John and Echo both made the same kind of video.
But their so close togheter that it can't be someone stealing the idea. It's just a nice coincidence.
Definitely stolen idea
I thought it was kind of sus as well but ideas spread and I will be watching both
This colony is paradise compared the the one FJ did.. His had 40 dupes max stress 0 food and 0 dirt... 36 tons of dirt for food and low stress, this colony is heaven compared to the other colony lmao.
FJ’s colony was on easy so in essence the number of dupes was also 20ish.
@@chrismitchell-Auxo i loaded that save file myself and it had 44 dupes and max stress. the dupes would not do shit and no dirt or calories so that easy is talking out of your ass.. this colony had 36 cycles of dirt/ food left and no stress.. and only what 20 dupes.. totally different..
4:38 what a great sound clip he sounded genuinely distressed made me scared hahahahaha
I ain’t gonna lie, this how my colonies be living until they die 😭😭😭
That Chaoss bring to me so many sweet memories... Ahhh, my begininngs. We was so young!
I love the resurgence of fix that base content, both you and Francis John
this reminds me of how i started playing the game back when it first launched and 3 years later after forgetting about it
I love how who knows yo made the first 3 dupes Echo, Ridge, and Gaming and I love this kind of episode to show me what I'm doing wrong.
I really enjoyed this . More like this in a playlist would be great .
He used to do this on occasion. Its in the playlists, called colony fixer upper
I loovveee watching these, so satisfying 😩.
I also love oxygen not included, it's just so stressful 😩
This was so awesome! I would love to see videos like this again.
"i was looking around trying to find where the dupes were" NO, "when i found the entire colony" NOO "sleeping" NOOOOOO HOW. "that's right, there all on the same shift". (FALLS OFF CHAIR) WHAT
I've got no clue how to improve my chances of survival in this game so this sort of stuff is really helpful
I'd love to see more disaster saves or even non-disaster colony improvements.
Been watching your content for a long time, rarely do I ever like/subscribe/comment.
But I appreciate the uplifting genuine content you make.
Thank you.
I like this kind of colony saving videos. So interesting to seeing you turn these disasters (which would definitely be me at this point) and turning them into functioning colonies again. Shows your great skill as a player. Very nice 👍
you can tell that's a new player base. there's nothing wrong with meal wood 4 life as long as you have pips pooping dirt. BUT if you run mealwood put untamed beetles in there for the 5% growth rate, it adds up over time.
I love your narration it is so informative. I learn so much. I always thought that polluted oxygen is bad... now i dont
I feel so bad for the Duplicants having to constantly disinfect everything 🤣 But this colony is saved! A lot of resources lying around!
Can't wait for part 2!
“Advert your eyes advert your eyes!” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
You should make make more "Echo roasts/fixes your base" videos. They're fun to watch.
You need to make more videos like this man, i got plenty of old saves that would make for great challenges to revive😭
There is a new chat in the discord for doing just that! (Submitting saves for him to fix)
Best tip I can give for this game is, stick with 10 dupes until you know exactly what you are doing. 10 dupes can do anything.
Technically that's just wrong...
Because the better you become the less dupes and materials you need!
My oldest save has about 30-40 people alive and a cemetery.
Only my more recent ones have less than 15, 10 or even 5 people running around, and 0 deaths.
6:55 Echoe: ther is a bunch polluted water... but there is a door
ME: ...but above there is a lot of Airflow Tile !!?!!...
Neat concept video. Would love to see more colony fix videos
I like this a lot. It reminds me a bit of the feeling of fixing stuff up in the challenges or whatever Frostpunk had.
11:33 Can we appreciate the fact this is like a curved line made on MS Paint? That's some flexing!
18:27 Pajamas detected!
It's like HGTV Fixer Upper but with much more dire consequences :P
Good save Echo, it would be interesting to see a series of these. :)
Yas colony fixer upper back again
Great idea! Keep doing this sparingly and keep them coming!
You flood the entire base with polluted oxygen, and then dig into the slime biome so that polluted oxygen starts breeding slimelung. Outstanding.
To be fair, slimelung is not the colony killer it used to be, it can be cleaned up easily now, so long as the builders don't keep stopping to cough every few seconds. lol
As the one begin with Occupation update on Early Access, the 6000 slimelings on pure Oxygen triggered my PTSD.
20:16 also just noticed something cursed. The airflow tiled lined pool.
So much copper.
I'm not even good at this game, but I always like fixing cities (or colonies in this case). Nice video.
For the first 30 seconds here I thought I was looking at a rimworld colony XD
This video finally opened my eyes. I played this game years ago and had a lot of fun but every time i played i would run out of oxygen because i would spend too long trying to build a chlorine room and kill off the slimelung in the algae before using it. Apparently, I was avoiding it for no reason. Ive never seen a video where someone cared about Slimelung, but they always tried to mitigate it and here you just went for it, digging without a second thought. "Oh this water is really germy" *never mentions it again*
Me, not a single germ in my last 3 colonies because of thorough sink placement and preventing pee/puke from getting anywhere NEAR the water supply: "no wonder i kept running out of oxygen"
Same here. It's what puts me off the game the most, trying to keep everything separate. I need to play again and take it less seriously.
To be fair, slimelung used to be far more dangerous. I remember doing absolutely everything I could to avoid it getting into the colony. The slime biome was basically a no-go zone
Really enjoyed that. Cheers.
Just saw another video from the creator Francis John trying to save this base
Sein you and possibly more people doin this is fun
Oki is not the same colony but sCool nontelles
@@shooterdefronvrps2 Several similar issues in both. I made all the same mistakes and abandoned lots of bases before I got it.
Yeah I also thought it was the same base. But then I realised this one wasn't nearly as screwed as the one he was saving.
quality content!
Omg this video is sooo fun😂😂😂 even for me started oni 2weeks😊 and I actually suprised that colony running through 130 cycles!! because him and I researched similer step, but 30 cycles was my colonys maximum😅 I love your channel, this channel is great helpful for me. Thank you for this video and WhoKnowzYo so I started fun day! (Sorry for my english I'm not good at it😅)
I mean, like, we were all learning to play at one point. I think you were a bit harsh on the designer. Mistakes are how we learn.
Awe! I appreciate that! We do indeed all start somewhere and Echo and I are friends. He reviewed it on twitch and after I asked "WHY!? WHY DID YOU LEAVE MY PIPES!" he was VERY kind about it all! I told him it was ok if he removed stuff and that I expect him to correct and KEEP ALIVE! All 21 dupes. He did well and I learned a lot! I promise this was all in good fun!
destroying a whole setup and building it properly is obviously the easiest way to fix it. however, finding a way to fix something with minimal possible amount of changes sounds like a more interesting challenge.
Thing that surprises me the most here, is that it's 21 dupe colony but nothing in terms of digging/building looks like 21 dupe labour, more like 8-10.
It looks like there was a pocket of oxylite you could've dug down to immediately below the base early on to try and address the oxygen issue a bit more immediately.
I’d love to see more rescues
I really enjoyed this nice one !
did echo fix the colony? yes.
it was an interesting perspective. I really enjoyed learning from someone elses missteps. it felt very approachable and relatable as a noob oni player...
Now onto my only criticism. neither whoknowzyo or Echo provided the utterly moo-nificient pet cow that i was promised. 🤣😂
I rarely deviate from 10 dupes until my bases are fully stable.
Sometimes there is no other way but to shame another person out of their incompetence!
Re: polluted water in the water supply, I've found you can use the mop to mop the polluted tiles up
This should be a new series!!
In my game I do meal wood but I also do the grub fruit it’s better when you keep the beetles in there with the grub fruit
Great video and a lot of information how to play the middle game. :)
their liquid reservoirs are sitting on uranium.. ( 4:47 )
me before seeing the plumbing: (°ヮ°)
me while seeing it: щ(🔥ロ🔥щ)
The problem is not the mealwood, the problem is ONLY mealwood combined with almost two dozen dupes. Once you're >100 cycles, mealwood should be an emergency food. If you have infinite water from a geyser, give sleet wheat a try. A cool slush geyser in particular works wonderfully for sleet wheat. Most of the time you only need 5 sleet wheat for every 2 dupes, instead of mealwood's 4 plants for every 1 dupe.
Mealwood is for dreckos, not dupes.
Awesome video, I enjoyed it very much
Would love to see Echo take on the same dumpster fire of a colony that Francis John just did a video on. That was in far worse state than this colony so would prove quite a challenge to see who can loose the least duplicants
When I first got into city builder games I used to watch biffa when he would play city skylines and would sip tea and fix peoples traffic congestion. Ever since then I always wanted to see some type of same idea for ONI. I love that you did this video. I think the ONI community would love it if you did this alot more. I do want to say that if you did do more of these videos it would be a excellent source of views and income for you, this one got over 23k so far and its been just over a week. I would like to give you constructive criticism here. I know in this video you said its your friend, but if you do this for random people submissions there should be some rules: 1) No criticism. In this video you made some questionable comments and laughs. 2:) Make as little changes as possible to be able to get the colony stable. 3) Maintain as much of the original design as possible. In this video you entirely moved where the beds were when just deleting a few and putting in doors would help. These are the same rules that biffa follows and just take a peak at his views :) I hope I helped. Again I really appreciate the work you do Echo and I love your channels.
I still don’t understand pipes well enough to use them good but even I didn’t make a horrifying mess like that. Holy moly I hope he learns from it.
This is great but more details into how food especially can sustain the colony. like to know other closed loop systems and it's applications
holy hell, that piping, the other stuff are classic mistakes, but that pipe routing must be deliberate.
Their priority and schedule screen was the most painful to look at. Like just how lol.
Wow this is a very nice content. Kinda 1st time to your channel and I am wondering what if we provide you a colony that we think is unsaveable and you fix it while you give some tutorial. Great video man! Nice! :)
I didn't know the liquid pipe overlay was a jump scare.
Imagine walking into a bathroom where all the walls, the floor, and the ceiling were airflow...
This is like FJ's version but easier, which I think they got it from reddit.
It is nice to see save save this stuff though.
It's coincidental honestly! I just wanted an excuse to play ONI and suggested that I do it for a week and he "fixes" it after I was done. That was 2 weeks ago! Kind of crazy someone else did it though!
FJ has done the save my stuff before and had not done one in a while so yes very much a coincidence to be honest.
Hope you enjoyed the game and continue to play it when not doing whatever else you do, if you are that type of person.
My god this was satisfying.
I had no idea you can make ice temp shift plates
FJ did a similar video just yesterday on someone else’s dying colony. Your approaches are so similar. Great minds!
My colonies always get infected with slime lung once I start digging into the area. Doesn't matter if I set up an airlock with oxygen cleaners, it always creeps through the entire colony and spreads out of control. I usually get frustrated at that point and turn it off
Save my base is the best way to play oni 😂
2 months ago ... hooking up the sieve directly to the plumbing... We don't need a buffer tank anymore? Wow. I should go read patchnotes for the last... few years.
This coloney was like a quiz question: how many mistakes can you find?
i don't see the problem, a few issue regarding sustainability, but to be honest, my colony is a lot more messy and i'm doing just fine
btw, i really like that kind of content, ihope you'll make more of, "i save your colony", there someone doing it on eu4, and it's so satisfying to see how bad a game can turn and watch a pro repair everything
ah yes, I remember my first colony died due over-dupe-pulation, my second died of hunger, my third one died by heat, my fourth... well that just abandoned tbh, but I love to see all of us at the very begining make the same mistakes ^^
Awesome sauce!
Enjoyed this video immensely, keep up the great work! Might it be possible to get this map seed (not the save file, just the seed)?
2 minutes in: Well this doesn't look so bad...
4:37 - WTF happened there? Former granite border? Builds made by a cat that wasn't canceled and instead incorporated into the desired pipeline? :D
Can I fix it? "Yup, let me just remove everything you have ever done because of its omnishambolic nature is an affront to gamers everywhere"
only 5 minutes in......and sir! There was no need to make these comments so personnel :D
Just started ONI 2 weeks ago - and just now reached a point similar to your friend, all my oxygen - which was a lot, somehow disappeared without me noticing around cycle 160-ish (sure there was a warning every cycle saying oxygen production was low - but I totally had it under control :D ) I paused my game to find inspiration in others, and found your colonization series from a year ago - it made me realise that there are so many mechanics still to learn and master - and that after two weeks of gameplay, it's okay to not master them all.
Thanks for the fun videos - and I'll be taking notes on this one :D
Does the slime lung not pose any threat anymore? I used to play this game years ago, and I remember having to be careful of the slime.
Slimelung has almost never been practically dangerous. It's an annoying debuff, but realisitcally once it's spread it's not worth trying to prevent, and pure oxygen kills the germs so it tends to get fixed up by midgame.
First look at this colony and my thought was eek
