  • As our hedges around the smallholding grow and establish, we needed some battery-operated gardening equipment that would allow us to maintain them. This is our Husqvarna 520iHT4 battery hedge trimmer review.
    What we're beginning to really like is that battery-operated equipment is now on a parr with petrol kit, and this Husqvarna hedge trimmer is not an exception. It's powerful, mobile, sturdy and extremely well-built.

    Have now been using my 520iHT4 for just over a month, fantastic piece of kit. Fitted the tip protector Part No 581 48 35 01. Recommended cleaning the blades with degreaser after use then coating with silicone spray, this prevents sap build-up and keeps blades running freely. Have also fitted piece of black pipe lagging/foam around handle to prevent possible damage when operating next to walls and acts as shock absorber.

    Which battery are you using in the hedge trimmer, and how long does it typically last?

    • @MyHomeFarm
      @MyHomeFarm  Před 11 měsíci +2

      It's a 4amp battery, and we comfortably get an hour of use out of it.

    Awesome. Looks sturdy. Is it powerful enough for thicker hedge twigs compared to corded models ?

    • @MyHomeFarm
      @MyHomeFarm  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you for the comment Tanguy. Yes, it gets through thick hedge twigs and branches with ease. We have a corded electric Stihl hedge trimmer and this is just as powerful with the freedom of not having long extension cords.

    Great review, I have a husqvana hedgetrimmer it came with an orange blade protector did you get one?
    I suggest you get the automower 450x it is great saves me so much time.

      Thank you Orange Stig. We got a bade protector, but it was grey. Robot mowers sound awesome and we’re hoping to review some in the new year. They are pricey though. How big is your lawn?

      @@MyHomeFarm it’s about 1 1/2 acres saves on fuel for the ride on mower & servicing. But if gives me time to do other things, and I could not cut in rain or when grass wet . now it just happens

    • @MyHomeFarm
      @MyHomeFarm  Před 3 lety +2

      That sounds incredibly impressive. It takes us ages to cut the grass, and living in the Welsh borders, it grows at an insane rate. Our "issue" is that we won't have electrics near the lawn where we need to cut. So how do you charge the unit. Do you take to the garage (for example) to recharge and then put it out when it's time to cut?

      @@MyHomeFarm HI
      My 450x is plugged into mains, but in summer then the house solar powers for free. If you can not run power over or under road to get to automower then solar could be an option. Cost to run 450x is £32 in electric {but most free as solar} apposed to £75 diesel costs.
      I did not say, it also does a better job . ...
      It's like a Tesla for your garden

      I'm definitely intrigued.
      Last question: running a cable to the lawn should be OK, but can the unit be left outside in the summer on its charging/docking station? Also, are they water and rain proof?

    Just got this one very heavy and awkward to use I would not recommend it I would go with a petrol one lighter and easier to use

    • @theewhaler

      You are wrong on every level. Petrol ones are heavier, vibrate terribly, pump out horrible smelling fumes.

    Great Trimmer but medium to long term the batteries are so unreliable , reluctantly now migrating away from Husqvarna ( who dont give a stuff about battery reliability)

    • @MyHomeFarm
      @MyHomeFarm  Před rokem

      Our Husqvarna products (apart from the leaf blower) are low consumers of battery so out battery is still going string, but it's interesting to note you've seen signs of unreliability. Our Greenworks, Stiga, Toro and Stihl batteries are also all doing well.

      Fair enough Jacobe. We like the convenience and cleanness of battery operated tools, but take your point on board about petrol-based equivalents.

      That's a professional grade battery hedge trimmer. Landscaping businesses use them. It operates at 4000 strokes per minute at full speed. It's the shutter speed of the camera that makes it look slow.
