The night watch should have allowed women and children so they had a never ending supple of kids growing up learning to fight and defend the wall.

So the kids don't have a choice and just have to be in the watch when they grow up?

@@Teabagsforlife Isn't that how the children of all the Houses live anyway? All the girls get married off to strangers and have to leave their childhood homes to live amongst more strangers, and the boys have to inherit their fathers' leadership duties whether they want to or not, whether they're ill-suited for them or not, and they don't get much more say than the girls do in who they marry. Hell, being a child of the Night's Watch would probably mean more freedom, if less luxury.

If they want, sounds good. But, the sins of the father should never pass. You teach the kids archery, hunting, fire starting, fishing, animal husbandry, horse riding, the sword, and whatever plethora of knowledge available to teach them, but they must always have the choice. Perhaps, make Mole’s Town a place for the women and children to live. Hell, once families of Night’s Watchmen begin to settle the town will do nothing but grow and thrive. Men will surround the town with walls and fortifications, wanting their families safe. They will work together to form a hall, basic structures like a blacksmith’s workshop, stables, and adequate living quarters, to ensure their families have access to the everyday things most other villages have. They will teach their sons the crafts they knew, and they theirs, and so the knowledge will always be there. Before you know, it could be a very significant settlement, regardless of its position in the far north. It may take some time, but you may even be able to have routes set up to make receiving particular items and foods easier to attain, say some boats to go to White Harbor where many of these things can be procured, given its lively port situation. Being a rich northern city and being on the water gives them access to many things that cannot be attained otherwise.
Of course, the men would have to be in some kind of cypher or cycle. I’d think this idea would see the Watch flourish in numbers. That said, they’d have some segment of their manpower on leave for their abodes in Mole’s Town. Every so often they spend some time there, before having to go back to Castle Black, or whatever castle they are assigned. Say like one month on, two weeks with your family. Or, given the long travels back and forth, it may be more prudent to do longer shifts. Like, 3 months at the wall/castle and 1 month home. Otherwise, you’d already have days, or maybe more, of ur home time taken by the arduous trek through the thick snow and unforgiving weather of the extreme north.

In the book Mance didn’t die. Melisandre cast a spell to make the lord of bones look like Mance and Mance to appear as the lord of bones. They burned the lord of bones in Mances place and Mance went to Winterfell to save Arya from Ramsay Bolton since Jon wasn’t allowed to get involved. When Jon received the Raven from Ramsay he mentioned that he captured Mance. Jon sent the nights watch men to save the wildlings while he declared he was going to Winterfell to confront Ramsay when he threatened to slaughter the Nights Watch. The Wildlings present at the meet rallied behind Jon and moments later his brothers of the watch stabbed him to death

Imagine how good the Stannis scenes could have been if D&D had any care for him. The nightfire casting shadows upon the Wall, Maester Aemon seeing that Lightbringer is a forgery, Stannis threatening to behead Jon Snow twice, Davos leaving for White Harbour after speaking to Jon. And Mance surviving to rescue Sansa and Theon.

Burning Mance was one of the dumbest and most needless political moves in the series on Stannis's part. Jon also should have attempted to sit Stannis down and explain WHY he respects Mance, that the man spent a generation bringing them all together and doesn't want war with the realm, just to save his people from the threat beyond.
