First 24 Hours in Jamaica (kingston)

- In this travel vlog we explore Kingston, the capital of Jamaica. We begin at Emancipation Park in the heart of Kingston, which is dedicated to the triumphant rise of the nation from the horror's of slavery. Next we visited Devon's House, the massive mansion of Jamaica's first black millionaire, George Stiebel. There are some shops there, including a bakery, so we tried some delicious Jamaican baked goods. After that, we ate dinner at Usain Bolt's restaurant, and then finally toured Bob Marley's Home, which has since been converted into a museum.
We are happy that Kingston was our first stop in Jamaica because it showed us the history and current state of affairs of this famous Caribbean nation.

"Wata" is a brand bottled water that is bottled and distributed by Wysinco company. There are other brands of water from other companies e.g. Catherine's Peak, Bull Head etc

@@WyattandReyka The brand "wata" is a play on the Jamaican dialect, Patois. In Jamaican Patois ,many grass roots ( less educated) people pronounce 'water' as "wata". In Jamaican standard English , it is pronounced as either " watuh" or simply "water". The Jamaican standard English is what our mainstream TV and radio broadcasters speak when reading the news. We are semi rhotic in the Standard Jamaican English. Some people speak the Jamaican standard using the non rhotic British pronounciations or the rhotic Irish pronounciations. Jamaica is a former colony of the United Kingdom and is still a member of the British Commonwealth. King Charles III is the head of state of Jamaica through his Governor General at King's House in Kingston. Jamaica's head of government is a Jamaican Prime Minister, though.

I am a Jamaica.We love and appreciate your visit. The US state department loves to send out travel advisories .However, Canada, UK and other big powerful countries have not put out travel advisory for New York City. How hypocritical. The National Guards were recently called in for New York City.
the bakery style is the same we have here in europe, the pastries are displayed in the showcase and you just point to what you want, there's no menu. it would be weird to have a menu when you can just point to it 😂

Good video.Emancipation Park is in an area of Kingston referred to as New Kingston,as you head further towards the airport you will be in the area referred to as Downtown Kingston

When travelling around Kingston to the different places, did you walk or get a driver for the day? I know there’s a lot of comments saying Kingston is not the safest place to go?
Great question! We took Ubers mostly - for ease of mind and to make sure we were safe. Night time is a definite no for walking around. During the day it felt a lot better, but just be mindful of the neighborhood. The tourist center (statue and park) and the area near the bus stop felt particularly safe, but there were definitely neighborhoods I (wyatt) walked through to get groceries by myself that I never would again. People followed me asking for money and everyone stared, seeming baffled that I was there. That being said, I don’t want to trash the Jamaican people. Most Jamaicans we met were wonderful, open people. It’s just certain areas that are a bit dicey.
Still, looking back, the bob marley museum tour is our favorite tour we’ve ever done. Super interesting 🥰

The same applies to Detroit at nights and there is no fictional Robocop in Detroit. I am a Jamaican in Canada by the way. I drove over the Ontario -Michigan border last Black Friday. My car was broken into and my car tablet stereo was dug out and stolen.

Yep. The brand 'Wata' is a play on the Jamaican Patois dialect . Many Jamaicans in the inner cities and rural areas who are not educated say "wata" to refer to "water". In Jamaica standard English, 'water' is pronounced as either " watuh" or "water" based on how rhotic the Jamaican is. Irish English is rhotic, British English is non rhotic. The standard Jamaican English derives alot from UK English because colonisation in the past.
