Yesterday was the first day I didn't read a rulebook in 2022. It felt good, I was exhausted, and I'm thankful people just wanted to teach me their games and just talk.
I went through this several times in my content creation time. Take you time brother. You deserve TIME.

Sometimes I find that “the next thing” I need to do should be to do nothing. There is a sense of tranquility that can come from allowing yourself time to unwind and just be for a while. You are the first regular board games reviewer I started watching regularly and I have always been a bit in awe of your work ethic. But don’t forget to allow yourself the time to unwind as well. Relaxation and down time are important parts of upkeep. Loved the video and hope this finds you in a better place than when you made it!

Fun tidbit I learned from the NPR Planet Money Podcast regarding why there was such a quick turnaround from the Tobey Spider-Man to the Andrew films. In short, Sony must produce and release a Spider-Man film every 5.9 years or the film rights to Spider-Man revert back to Marvel.

Nowhere near on YOUR level, but I do play a fair bit of games, and read so many rulebooks, more rulebooks than games truthfully. What has kept me going is the craft part of the hobby, I would def get bored with games, playing games, and the common ground they share ( except Magic Realm .. there's one that is on its own but I digress). The craft part .. Painting, hunting down Stone dice upgrades - yup thats a thing ... all the extra stuff has filled the gap and kept me in the hobby. Ofc the ppl too. Hope your well buddy!

    • @donkeytorin8137
      @donkeytorin8137 Před 2 lety

@@BoardGameCo I agree that the promo idea to cover part of shipping is not a awful idea. It just seems like at this point with how delayed they are, the last update of needing $3k more before they will start shipping seems a bit odd to me. As a backer, it doesn't feel great being told that they are holding the shipping of their games until they seemingly get every last penny to cover it. I can somewhat understand it from a business point of view but I don't think it is doing great things for potential future buyers if they see how the company is dealing with the shipping currently.

Taking a break is good, you deserve a time out. I'm taking a break from the big box full of Massive Darkness 2 in the corner of the dining room. Opened the base box and KS box plus the campaign box and was really dissapointed with the storage. Just a lot of minis in a box with nothing but an after thought for some card storage. After Unsettled and Uprising my expectations have been raised and MD2 was a real let down. Having to store the 100's of tokens in baggies seems a real step backwards. I can see how much of a pain this will be getting it to a table and so have just left it in the box in the corner. My first big CMON back so asking is this it, are they really just about the minis and no thought to set up / tear down etc..?

Totally different (no combat). It is a detective story RPG where you play a drunk/drugged up Cop that just woke up from a 3-day bender and has Amnesia (very funny, but also very engaging).

Books worth owning, I used to horde books like a dragon with gold, however even as a librarian now I only get books if like you said I know I will reread or they have some sort of emotional bond beyond the story itself. Take some time read and re energize !

Before burning out, try taking a breather and focusing on what works and you love at the same time. Add items when you feel ready, not just to push yourself, you might push too far. Take care 👍

Very nice video Alex, but take care with Bully Maguire, he puts dirt in the eyes.
Now without joking, it is good to know more about you and it's totally normal to feel that way, we only can be some time in "overload" mode before feeling burned.

I forgave a lot in the first Spiderman movies because I was such a comic book fan and I just wanted stuff from comic books on the screen at the time. Going back though, I can't stand watching them because yeah the characters relationship is sooooo toxic... No Way Home was sooooo satisfying to see though so I can't wait to hear your thoughts.

I work in a creative field, and right now there's an epidemic of burnout happening across the board. Partly due to the pandemic, people being "trapped" in close proximity to their work and succumbing to the tendency to do too much, etc. But I think there's also a general sense from a cultural perspective that time that isn't spent "productively" is wasted. Hopefully this paradigm is changing. Either way, lots of empathy on my part, I know how hard the struggle is, especially when your hobby is inextricably tied to your work. Ultimately, you have to know when you stop and recharge. It's unfortunate that burnout isn't something that necessarily goes away with time; sometimes you literally do "burn" the part of yourself that enjoyed something. If that scares you, you have to be able to sense when you're getting close to that point and stop. All that to say, much appreciation for the work you do, and I for one certainly won't hold it against you if you do decide to skip posting videos when you're not feeling it.

Everybody needs to recharge. Take a few off and go somewhere with your family or just take a break from everything.

Burnout is really tough - I’ve been living i that space for most of the pandemic. I feel for you.
You know the old adage in construction - you want it done fast, you want it done well, and you want it done cheap. But t most, you can get two of the three. You do both quality (well) and quantity (fast), and you’ve been ignoring the mental health part - that’s the cost part. Take a break, you deserve it!
This is part of why I have never done either a food or gaming vlog - my wife has been telling me to do both for years. I never want my hobbies/passions to become another job.

@@BoardGameCo I’m sure it was. Emotional intelligence, and knowing when to stop and take a break is very important. My wife keeps telling me she wishes I had some EI. (I overcommit ALL the time; I just spent the morning making hi end couverture chocolate coins for my students to give as gifts on an academic trip. It’s for another class, so I’m not even going on the trip. Three hours for 18 coins!). I hope knowing I have a problem is one step towards a fix.

The Raimi trilogy is the best portrayal of Spider-Man to this day for me. MCU is still my least favorite because of the whole Tony Stark bs, treating Peter as a moron giving the watch to Beck in FFH who he hasn’t known for a long time, Peter desperate to be an Avenger, believing that the suit is what makes him Spider-Man, lack of consequences in certain parts like ditching Liz at the dance and she doesn’t get mad at him, skipping detention and not getting in trouble, not present during the spelling bee where they should’ve lost, and Peter kicked off the team etc. NWH was the best of the MCU trilogy but even there are problems I still have but by the end it gave me hope for a better Spider-Man in future installments

    Hope you're feeling better, Alex!
After liking SM1, I was so thoroughly disappointed in SM2 (why do people think it's one of the best comic book movies ever?!) that I never even bothered with SM3 or the ASMs. From what I'd heard, I wasn't missing much. Well this year in anticipation of No Way Home I decided to give them a shot. None of them was as bad as I was expecting, but I don't think I'll ever watch any of them again. I also just saw Venom 2, and I don't get the love for that series, either. I have my critiques of MCU's Spider-Man films, but at least I'm entertained by them.

@@BoardGameCo - LOST finally was disappointing, he started but didn't finish Alcatraz, Alias is crap, Armaggedon, and M.I. 3 and not good movies. I enjoyed the Star Trek movies, although Star Trek fans say that they are horrible; he left Cloverfield unfinished... well, J.J. Abrams is synonymous with "Starting everything but finishing nothing."
