Rare look inside Bank of England's gold vaults - BBC News

  • The Bank of England’s gold vaults hold £194bn worth of gold bars.
If you stacked them all on top of each other, they would be the same height as 46 Eiffel Towers.
They hardly ever let anyone in to film, but the BBC’s Frank Gardner has been given access to the Bank of England’s gold vault.

Precious metals offer intrinsic value, stability during economic uncertainty, and diversification benefits, no doubt, but why choose that when the economy is riding on new corporate growths and breakthroughs? I wouldn't be putting capital to buy silver and gold if my stock portfolio can give me a 40% ROI.

Gold is incredibly rare compared to common metals, in big vaults like this it might look like it’s not but keep this in mind. We mine more iron in one day then we have for all the gold we have ever mined in history, and about 4-5 days for all the silver in history. There’s a estimated 200,000 tons of gold that we have ever mined while common metals are in the hundreds of millions of tons or even billions of tons like iron. It’s not just because it’s rare and shiny that we decided it’s valuable in history but also because unlike common metals, most precious metals do not rust or corrode, there’s no deterioration at all. Silver will tarnish but it’s very minute amount of corrosion, gold and the rest of them do not . So it also makes a great currency since it will never go bad. Gold and silver have very rare and appealing colors for a metal as well, especially gold. There are many silvery colored metals but silver is the most reflective and only two metals that are gold colored which is a orang-yellow color. Also they are valuable because of the amount of labor that goes into extracting them. You have a lot of man power and machinery costs that goes into getting just a small amount at a time

We can trace it's use back to ancient Egypt (3,000BC) but right now, all of our smartphones and devices have gold in because it doesn't corrode and is an excellent conductor.

Instead of looking at their own problems and solving it, these guys will never stop blaming the british for their problems lmao. When covid ravaged india and the government was nowhere near competent enough to contain it, was it also the UK's fault? India is still a poverty-stricken, hell-hole and yet these guys seem to think that if only the british decided not to colonize them CENTURIES ago then all their current problems will disappear. Just accept the fact that your country's ass was whopped by a global-reaching empire in the past and move on to the present. The united states was also colonized by the english and do you hear any moaning and complaining from them? Nope. Stop being hung-over by past events and concentrate on your own problems TODAY.

@@mariodelaurie1142 Did you ever wonder Why any of the ancients Indian empires in the history never looted other country , and destroyed other culture ?
You might have heard that all the other poor countries and empires at that time being benefitted by the trade with india. But did you wonder even though India having so much of wealth ( god thats immeasurable) any of the ancient empires never boast about themselves ( like how the british names themselves "The great Britain"😂)? Did you hear india having colonies , in which they exploited the poor peasants , and tortured them for their benefit?
They didnt do any of the above things ! And do you wanna know why ? Do you wanna know why they were so peaceful and well wishing towards others?
Becuase they were WISE . They had knowledge and wisdom , and a sense of self satisfaction with what they had , with what they were given by god . They had no GREED , they were not selfish. They were given with tonnes and tonnes of gold and diamonds and a good mind with no corrupt thoughts . They always invested their time and life in GAINING KNOWLEDGE , they knew the value and importance of knowledge , which itself gave them that pure and Virtuous character .
They were the reason for all teh modern scientific advancements.
It would be be fascinating to hear but its true , that our ancestors did not try to claim the riches and all teh precious stones which were looted . Instead they devoted it to the god , the gold , the diamonds , even though they had a chance to take it and possess it they gave it told the god, without any greed . In the south they had the biggest diamond in the world , the kohinoor , which was plucked from the idol of the goddess durga devi and was claimed by one after other rulers , finally landing onto the crown of the looters empire , the british empire .
But did you wonder who owned the diamond . No body claimed it . They gave it do the god , with their devine and ascetic mind .
And thats what i am proud of . Thats what all we indians are proud of . Our ancestors! Their wisdom! Can you say anything great about your history , like how i am explaining it to you now 😂😂. There are many many events which tell about the greatness of indian culture , or the "hindu culture" named by the english.

However, they were within locked cells with bars, much like prison cells. Many were new like these bars, but many were very old.
