The keys to UConn chips:

Every past UConn title team has had these key ingredients and the 2022-23 team has all of these in spades. This team has the best bigs in the country and can defend on the perimeter too. Haven't been this excited in about 8 years.

Yup, as a frosh and then as a senior. He won national titles in 50% of his college career lol
Him and Giffey are the only players to win titles in their freshman and senior years. Napier was also a major contributor as Kemba's backup and occasional backcourt mate that year, making clutch shots/free throws and playing great defense.
The Final Game that year (UConn vs Kentucky) was cool because of both teams' rankings and the fact that both teams fought super tough battles to get there. We can't forget that Kentucky team. Bittersweet.
One of the greatest NCAA BB run, even better than the UConn 2011 run which was the best of all times.
jcaudill6921 Before the run through the Big East tourney UConn was nowhere near a 3 seed. That and the fact that we got an easy road with kemba to me makes 2014 way more impressive

@@StanSitwellin 2011 UConn played in the Maui invitational at the beginning of the season and beat a 2nd ranked Michigan state and beat Kentucky in the finals. Both ranked teams. Also beat a 12th ranked Texas team that was previously the week before ranked number 1 in the country. Preseason standings had UConn not in the top 68 teams in the country. Twice they cracked the top 5 during the season. They were extremely young and inexperienced team and dropped a lot of games towards the end of the season, especially conference play. They then went on a tear and won 5 games in 5 days to win the big east tournament. 3 of the teams they beat were ranked within the top 15 in the nation. 2 of the games went to overtime on back to back days. They don’t win that conference tournament they ain’t getting into the big dance. And of course they ran the tables when they go there. I’m a huge UConn fan, love the 2014 team. But that 2011 run is by far the most impressive run by a college basketball team of all time time.
The ladies won that year too making Storrs, CT the epicenter of the college basketball universe
Napier is the only guy from this team that is in the NBA. It is crazy how they won the title.
No there was Kemba walker who is better than shabazz with 20 PPG and there is Jeremy lamb. they both went to the hornets. Shabazz was originally drafted to the hornets but Miami wanted him.

its 2022 and im showing my little brother in HS this UCONN run! They were s good and underdogs!
I watch this at least 3 times a year and it still gives me goosebumps every time. This was the first uconn run where I really kept up on every game of the season and I feel like this was a really special team

Shabazz needs to get is recognition as one of the biggest Uconn greats. He's not the most talented but boy he needs his praise big time
potentially the most lethal shot maker in school history. so many ballsy shots, so many momentum stoppers.
Been a uconn fans since the 90's,ray allen shot in the garden v gtown times. If you watched most games this season they just gritted games down to the end, with either napier or boatright creating a shot at the end of the clock. DeAndre was huge also, brimah, everyone. Vs Kentucky they had the size,but if you watch hoops the small guards (Napier, boatright) defense made post entry very difficult, they pushed them back a few feet which was all they needed. Also favorable games. Basically all home games. Buffalo, NYC. Ollie said planting seeds in the garden. #UCONN
The part of this story that very few know: March 5th, Senior Night, Gampel Pavilion, Storrs, Connecticut. UCONN beats Rutgers in Shabazz Napier’s final home game.
After the game, Napier addresses the student section over the arena PA system. His words: “I’ll be back next month to hang a banner”
