  • Session 6 from 'The New Natural - Perennials Symposium'.
My thinking on planting design has been substantially recalibrated in the last 12 months or so by increased contact with the ground-breaking work of James Hitchmough and Nigel Dunnett, largely through their respective books, Sowing Beauty (Timber Press 2017) and the fresh-off-the-press Naturalistic Planting Design (Filbert Press 2019).
These guys did the incredible meadow plantings around the Olympic Stadia for the London Olympics, and are now applying the mind-bending rigour of their thinking to planting around the world - including Melbourne!
Make yourself a cup of tea, and take a look at this interview I recently recorded with James Hitchmough for our Perennials Symposium. And don’t worry. The image eventually switches over to James!

What is your average annual precipitation and what are the temperature highs and lows for your garden at the end? Thank you!
