The Vatican and the Third Reich: an Unholy Alliance

  • In the midst of WWII, Catholics looked to the pope to guide them. Hitler had already begun secretly launching his plan to exterminate the Jews of Europe. Secretly, that is, to most- except Pope Pius XII. The pope remained silent whilst the rest of the world awaited any kind of grand gesture or speech condemning Hitler’s atrocities.
He chose to keep quiet in the face of the crimes committed by the Nazis throughout Europe, crimes that even took place below the Pope’s own windows, like the 1943 liquidation of the Jewish Ghetto in Rome, to which the pope made no official reaction.
At first glance, Nazism and Catholicism are diametrically opposed. The Vatican even seems an institution beyond all suspicion. The Church, however, faced in turn with the rise of Nazism, the Second World War and the extermination of Jews, will play an ambiguous - at times unholy - role. Several men of the Church, priests and bishops, being fervent admirers of Hitler, even fell into complicity…

He estimated that the Pope directly saved 813,000 Jews. I can go into far greater depth. This video is by some sort of freemasonic movement that wants to destroy the Catholic Church. Also there is only one encyclical in German by a Pope. That was the one sent out on Palm Sunday to be read in every Catholic Church DECRYING NAZISM. This was in 1937 WHILE THE WESTERN DEMOCRACIES PRACTISED APPEASEMENT. They are rightly ashamed of this. Millions of Catholics died either in Poland, and / or fighting Hitler. Pius XII's 1942 Christmas address via Vatican Radio voiced concern at human rights abuses and the murder of innocents based on race. The majority of the speech spoke generally about human rights and civil society; at the very end of the speech, Pius XII mentioned "the hundreds of thousands of persons who, without any fault on their part, sometimes only because of their nationality or race, have been consigned to death or to a slow decline". The Nazis themselves responded to the speech by stating that it was "one long attack on everything we stand for. ... He is clearly speaking on behalf of the Jews. ... He is virtually accusing the German people of injustice toward the Jews, and makes himself the mouthpiece of the Jewish war criminals." The New York Times wrote that "The voice of Pius XII is a lonely voice in the silence and darkness enveloping Europe this Christmas. ... In calling for a 'real new order' based on 'liberty, justice and love', ... the pope put himself squarely against Hitlerism." Speaking on the 50th anniversary of Pius's death in 2008, the German Pope Benedict XVI recalled that the Pope's voice had been "broken by emotion" as he "deplored the situation" with a "clear reference to the deportation and extermination of the Jews".

To kenb3552, please save that comment you made because in today's darkness, people are being brainwashed by today's liberal media. The way things are, currently, people working in today's liberal so-called "Mainstream media" (of course mainly based in N.Y.C. and L.A.) are brainwashing the American public with lies to get rid of real Christianity. Why? Because today's liberal media's trying to keep and spread a culture flourishing that's an abomination according to Him.
If I see headlines on the news today (during Biden's presidential term) that would start with something like: " There are new documents that have just been discovered that show a friendship between Hitler and this Christian patriarch" or whatever the headline might be, I'd laugh and I'd certainly not believe it because the lefty liberal media today, the way it is, would create lies to try to brainwash people to leave their religion and embrace an abomination of a new American culture. That's it! Merry Christmas.

Wow! That’s an interesting bit of history I hadn’t heard before. What was his purpose? To dissociate himself from the Jewish religion to save himself, or was it to position himself to help his fellow Jews then, & in the future, to gain influence to try to prevent future complicity of the Catholic Church in the genocide of innocent people. Isn’t the same thing going on, right now, in the Catholic Churches in Russia, & even like churches in Ukraine? All, in Putin’s evil quest to rid himself of RU’s innocent Ukrainian neighbors through all kinds of evil acts toward the genocide of yet another innocent People? When will the Catholic Church, as a whole, act now to stop THIS genocide? Or, will the help come after Putin retreats, or when Putin’s genocide of Ukrainians is complete, or at least sufficient for Putin’s purposes. When you compare Putin’s genocidal war in UA to Hitler’s in DE, they are so alike that you wonder if Putin isn’t using Hitler’s famous diary (penned while imprisoned after his initial attempt to act on his evil plans) Mein Kampf, his military playbook for his illegal invasion of UA. I haven’t read it, but have almost ordered a copy a few times. I think I will commit to doing the very unpleasant task of reading it, soon, to see if the comparison may actually be accurate. I wholeheartedly apologize to anyone whom I may have offended here; by my stating the truth, as I know it, & for my ignorance in believing any falsehoods I may have put forth here. I am very open & willing to learn as much as I can. I especially want to know if, how, & when the WORLD is going to act to stop the genocidal war in UA. The people of the world should not let 1 more innocent life be taken by evil, anywhere.

Netenyehu met with the pope at least five times. Kissinger has nothing but the highest praise for the Vatican. The ‘Lubavitchers’ movement works closely with the Vatican to promote the ‘Noahide Laws’. Jeffrey Epstein paid Canossa to the German pope. Biden has appointed several very stereotypical ‘Jews’ to front for their agenda. We Israelites have been infiltrated and betrayed by our own for centuries. While I know there was racism where I grew up among Catholics, our formal catechism and also the Mass was all about the Jewish roots of Catholicism. We read the the Old Testament every week at Mass. We knew the stories of Moses, Joshua, David and Soloman, Jezebel, Ruth and Esther for example. Contrast the Vatican with Albania, and imagine what was possible. Albania was the only country occupied by Nazis that increased their Jewish population during the war. The local authorities refused to hand over the names of Jewish residents when they were occupied by Nazis. When refugees arrived from across Europe, the local population got them to safety in their own homes throughout the countryside. They were concealed for months or years by adopting local names and being incorporated into host families. This experience laid the foundations for enduring bonds of friendship and family. In the entire war, only one family was discovered, and a total of 5 Jewish lives were lost. Albania is a majority Muslim, multi-faith society, and practices the tradition of Besa, which is a code of honour where protection is granted to anyone who knocks on your door. Besa means keeping your promise, and not betraying or abandoning anyone. Albanians promised the Jews they would be protected, and so they were.

If you really study this and not just follow anti catholic videos you will see the overwhelming evidence that the Church remained true to its sacred mission. The most obvious are 1/ Even this video admits there is no evidence (around 10 minutes in) that the popes envoy Pacallei had instructed the Catholic Party to agree to support the Nazi Party. 2/ The Catholic position was clearly set out in "Darkness over the World" in 1938 by the pope as he condemned the Fascists and Communism in equal measures. 3/ the video starts with the statement that in 1942 the Pope who was confined to the Vatican knew of the extermination of the Jewish people .... I was waiting for some evidence for this Absolutely none was even suggested. 4/ When the pope died mysteriously in 1939 we find a fascist had infiltrated his medical care team (and had probably caused his death ) but as in claims against the Church we have no evidence what he did.. 5/ During the War the hands of the Church were tied. Speak out against the murderous regime and more Catholics get killed as was done by Belgium Catholic hierarchy which led directly to the execution of many including Edith Stein the Catholic Nun and academic 6/ In an organisation of hundreds of millions you have extremists who will go against the leadership of the Church -- so yes some priests may have joined the Nazi Party -- they might have reasoned that the thuggery will stop once Hitler got to power and that we would have a strong nation against Communist Russia -- remember France and Britain thought the same thing ,,,,,

As a teen in the 1990s/2000s, I took an incredible interest in the Holocaust. As a Catholic, I was bothered by the Vatican's silence, so I looked to sources within the Church for explanation. I had so much faith in the Church that I didn't look beyond it for alternative explanations. I was instructed that Catholicism is steeped in the belief (and indeed pride) that Pius XII's silence was a strategic move to keep the Church politically neutral in order to avoid Nazi wrath and ultimately save more lives via underground channels. I was also instructed that the European Jewish leaders publicly honored & revered Pius XII's approach after the war. Never did I encounter a critical explanation, nor did I learn about the Church's ongoing silence after the war or some of its most powerful members' efforts to aid Nazi war criminals. I was told volumes about Catholic priests who were sent to Dachau. I certainly never learned there were openly Nazi Bishops.
It's impossible for a non-expert like me to guess how many Jewish lives might have been saved or lost if Pius took a firm stance and took not just Hitler to task, but all Catholics who supported Nazism. However, for a nation-state that is founded on supposedly absolute & unchanging morals, this silence feels like cowardice and compromise. In contrast, decades later, JPII became one of the loudest critics of Soviet Communism, which contributed to its downfall via the Solidarity Movement. What would the world response have been if Pius XII was one of the loudest critics of the Holocaust? Even more certainly, once Nazis were defeated, why his ongoing neutrality? If Pius dealt with his Bishops who aided some of the most grotesque war criminals quietly behind closed doors, then what a shame. It's the same approach the Church employed for decades regarding the childhood sex abuse scandal. The Church shouldn't fear critique from within. It should pursue such critique vigorously, and the Pope should lead the way. Yet, it seems to have a pattern of grudgingly admitting its worst mistakes only when the world stage utterly demands it. Painful secrets that are kept cloistered scar the Church's moral reputation. Better to be leaders in calling attention to its mistakes than to hide behind a wall of priestly silence. I see nothing in the acts of Jesus that suggest he would congratulate Pius for choosing a path of silence and tiptoeing around the politics of the Holocaust while millions of Jews were exterminated.

Hitler attended a Catholic convent school in Salzburg l think it was, run by the Church. It was here as a young teenager he experienced the absolute obedience of the monks to the head honcho. This appealed to him and he modelled his SS personal guard on it. Catholicism is a doctrinaire religion with many features of fascism. It demands complete obedience which it used to enforce by burnings at the stake in medieval times. Naziism and Catholicism have much in common together with communism. Disobedience is worse than murder to them. In Catholicism you can be excommunicated these days for disobedience, but not normally for murder as long as you confess it, all's forgiven. It's all about what people crave most. Power.

Many many priests and nuns were martyred, often for hiding Jews. How much of this is in the video. Do some research on St Maximilian Kolbe. St Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us!

In the early 1930s Hitler was able to achieve power full power in German when the Catholic parties in the Reichstag provided the necessary votes that allowed Hitler a greater amount of power and the ability to circumvent the Weimer constitution. Those Catholic parties did this as a quid pro quo for the German Government signing a Concordat with the Vatican. It was Mussolini who recommended to Hitler that he agree to a Concordat with the Vatican, as a way for Hitler to get what he wanted and needed from various political parties in order to do away with the democratic order.

And still being persecuted by anti Christians .....

A concordat with Hitler does not mean Catholics agree with him .. The 1938 publication "Darkness over the World " in which the previous pope condemned Nazi and Communist regimes set out what the Catholic Church thought of them !!
The Chief Rabbi of Rome converted to a Catholicism after the world war Ii. He mentions pope Pius xii efforts on behalf of the Jews... Eugenio Maria Zolli (27 September 1881 ‒ 2 March 1956), born Israel Anton Zoller, was an Austrian by birth, and an Italian doctorate professor of philosophy and author. The Roman Police who were predominantly Catholic refused to have anything to do with rounding up Roman Jews on behalf of the Nazis. Right. Unfortunately Churches are not considered sanctuaries as explained by retired cop and professor Tim Dees.
Catholic, Protestant or any church would have taken a tremendous chance hiding anyone. Catholics in Germany were always suspected of not being patriotic. The same was the case here in the US, so there were times when they went out of their way, to express obedience to a regime. This was the case with the Irish during the American Civil War.
From an article by Jonathan Luxmoore:
"Half of all Poland’s Catholic priests, monks and nuns suffered repression during the six years of World War II, with more than 2,800 killed at Nazi and Soviet hands. Researchers like Anna Jagodzinska of Poland’s National Remembrance Institute say clergy were particularly targeted as upholders of national culture and identity.
Of the nearly 2,800 clergy of all denominations incarcerated at the Nazi concentration camp of Dachau, 1,773 were priests from Poland, of whom 868 were killed. Others were subjected to exhausting labor and pseudo-medical experiments."
So as we can see, hiding the so called enemy could get you killed. We have to ask ourselves, "What would I do?"
Unfortunately we are not all as brave as Father Hugh O'Flaherty who saved 6,500 Allied soldiers and Jews. Or the "Polish Angel" Irena Sendler or the Saint of Auschwitz, Max Kolbe.

What did Franco do? Responded to a Marxist counter-revolution that killed thousands of Catholics, murdered and tortured hundreds of Priests and nuns (throwing priests in bull pens to get gored to death, castrating and stuffing the organs into their mouth, holding mock crucifixion of priests, brutally raping nuns who wouldn't give up their religous vows, diging up corpses of nuns and priests and displaying them outside of churches) all for practicing a religion and not submitting to a degenerate Marxist form of nationalism. But you're seriously brainwashed to only attack the Catholic and traditionalist position to save the degenerate Marxist republicanists position. Poland was one of the most Catholic countries in Europe. The Nazis killed between 1.8 and 1.9 million Polish Catholic civilians during World War II including Father Saint Max Kolbe who was murdered for saving 200 Jewish lives.

By order of Pope Francis, the Vatican opened in March 2020 the archives that preserve the documentation of the convulsive pontificate of Pius XII with the intention of clarify the accusation that the pontiff did not raise his voice against Nazism during World War II.
Pope Pius XII (1939-1958) knew about the Holocaust from the beginning and personally saved at least 15,000 Jews - according to the German historian Michael Feldkamp, after collecting evidences of the Vatican archives.
“Pius XII personally saved some 15,000 Jews through his personal efforts: opening monasteries and cloisters for people to hide there”, Feldkamp said in statements published by the portal Vatican News.
Regarding the systematic extermination of European Jews, Pius XII sent a message to US President Roosevelt in March 1942, two months after the Wannsee conference,” the historian argued.
The opening of the Vatican archives allows “correct many of these vague assumptions and even accusations” that until now existed about the pontiff, especially that “Pius XII did nothing and kept silent" - said Feldkamp.

Problem with almost all these documentaries is that they are made by people who were not around in that time. I was born a few years after WWII, so I have known many people (parents, grand parents and so on) who lived in Europe before WWII. Jews were generally disliked, not just by Catholics. I'm not saying this was right or wrong, just sharing this information. And the communists were really feared by many... I believe these events have to be placed in the era when they happened, you cannot look a this without this context.

Pope Pius XII's 1942 Christmas address via Vatican Radio voiced concern at human rights abuses and the murder of innocents based on race. The Nazi regime responded to that by massacring tens of thousands of fighters the next weeks. During the war, the Pope explicitly ordered that every church and religious order should house jewish refugees, including in Rome and inside the vatican walls. Some jews eventually converted to catholicism and baptized their kids after the war. The Pope was also part of an unsuccessful conspiracy to **KILL** Hitler. The accusations that Pope Pius XII was nazi complicit came only after the war, by a means of propaganda from the USSR.

people must realize something very important:
the Vatican is one of the smallest operational nation on earth.
the Swiss Vatican force is but a small army.
A single company of german soldiers can conquer it.
The vatican learned early that Hitler could conquer the vatican immediately (if he wanted to do so).
Hitler would have to just form four companies of German soldiers.
Thus, the vatican "made friendly" with a superior force. This superior force could over run easily the small vatican force. It would not take much.
this also falls into Hitler's concept:
conquer nations and leave a force big enough to "control" said area. Leave enough soldiers to keep a presence (much like modern cops do) and you can control a populace.
the us (after the initial desert Storm) failed to do that. Shock and awe crush Iran. But, the us did not leave a force big enough to control the vacuum of leadership, police protection, etc...
the vatican still secretly aided jews to escape.
the Vatican still assisted jews in escaping Hitler's view of them.
It is better to (on the surface) make peace with a superior force than have your nation crushed (especially when it concerns one of the smallest nations on earth.
ask youself, "if the vatican had declared war on germany, How long could it stand?
How long would it take just 8 companies of hitlers' soldiers to completely kill or displace the Pope?
How many German forces would lose their lives to the Vatican guard?
How many vatican guards would lose their live respec tively?
Politics is not a white and black area.
Politics is an extremel grey area (in which actions) many times hide alterior motives. Many times actions hide not only alterior motives - but also contradictory motives (many times against the other party). That is the nature of politics.

The recent drive against the Church is to help the satanicly inspired, communist trolls to discredit the church in the eyes of ordinary Catholics. Proliferation of such fake documentaries has no other purpose either.

In terms of Catholic Church's history this episode could in fact just be classified as a minor crime.

Oh, yeah, yeah yeah. It took the Germans generals some serious effort to talk Hitler out of hanging all the Bishop's in St Peter's Square on at least one recorded occasion. Being in a place where Hitler could order you to be killed at any point was surely nothing to ever worry about? Right?
