      Very true. Sorry for not including that. No creaking or moving that I could see when in use. I believe we may have gone a bit over kill on the concrete holding the posts but better save than sorry.
      Thanks!

    very helpful. I don't build things, but I want to so I was watching this to teach myself how. I am building a 18-20 ft long by 8 foot wide up against my house. at one of the narrow ends is my back door. the other end I want a swing. Do you have any suggestions about additional support since it is much bigger. I only need one swing though.

    How far away from the fire pit is your legs when swinging with a fire ?

    • @SimonSaysDIY
      @SimonSaysDIY  Před 18 dny +1

      It is a bit close if you are swing while the fire is going. I would recommend not having a large fire going. 😊

  • @JohnWic-ld2fd

    Do you think that gravel is still gravel once you pour in the concrete?? I think the concrete turns that gravel into concrete and I don’t think the ends on the post rot because of all that concrete around them lol frost won’t push that big thing out
    I install fences so kinda dug a lot of holes for 4x4’s here in Pa and it’s not that serious lol ❤🫡

    • @SimonSaysDIY
      @SimonSaysDIY  Před 18 dny +2

      Thanks for the tips! I imagine the concrete would soak into the gravel and bond with it. But you’re probably right, that post won’t rot any time soon.

    I'm not sure I follow you on the frost line comment. Where I live the frost depth can go as low as 8 feet. My fence does not go this deep and has yet to become affected.

  • @carlosjay

    I listened several times. Maybe I missed it. How tall and wide is the pergola? What size (in length) post did you use? Will 8 feet posts work?

    • @SimonSaysDIY
      @SimonSaysDIY  Před 2 lety +5

      The width is 10x10 and the posts are 8ft above ground and you will want to place 2-3feet down into the ground. we used 12ft for the vertical posts and 10ft for the horizontal beams.
      Thanks!

    Did you drill pilot holes for the lag screws?

    • @SimonSaysDIY

      We didn’t pre-drill. These lag screws didn’t require pre-drilling. If your using larger lag bolts you will want to pre-drill.

    • @SimonSaysDIY
      @SimonSaysDIY  Před 2 lety +1

      We have it at 8 feet high. It’s on a slight hill so a few are higher than 8ft to keep the top beam level.

    Nice but damn your fire would have to be 6" high only or you will burn your shins and the swings. Definitely way way too close by atleast 1.5-2'

    Very odd idea? 🤔
    Too many swings🙄
    Why not stain it before you erect it?
    Fire pit too close.
    1 swing would suffice and use chairs. Cover the top with pergola rafters and it will look better. 👌

    • @Lefishn
      @Lefishn Před 9 měsíci

      100% agree that way too many swings and way too close. Maybe they have never actually sat infront of a Bonfire before to know how hot it is??
