Yeah, my '97 has the dang locking fitting on the engine-side of the filter and the special tool required to remove it is, apparently, different from the 'universal' tool sold in parts stores. Now I have to find a 'field-expedient' method...

Isn't it wonderful that the Haynes Manual doesn't at all mention Diesel Rangers!? The manual with Haynes number 36071 does say"All Models"... No answer from Haynes of course
