I can't believe his name is "con-over", that's just too perfect
Ahmed Yahya ohh yeeeaaaahhhhh!
Lmao
Are you saying Adam is a con? Because if so, its BS
@@timethunder4820 r/woosh but it's ok, I meant con in the sense of scam or trick, so his name being con-over is perfect cuz it means the con is over done revealed, like your IQ (I'm sorry I couldn't help myself, no offence intended :> )
THAT IS WHAT I WAS THINKING!!!!!!
At a glance, I thought he was going to ruin bombs.
I legit thought so until i read this comment...
I came for Bombs ... was disappointed :(
Me too
I read "the truth ABOUT bombs."
Yes, me too
The not eating the pie crust actually surprises me. Apparently my 7-year-old had it right all along. It's also kinda cool how pie crust went from "throw it away, we don't eat it" to "gotta make sure I perfect the crust on my pie this year, it has to be nice and flaky."
Flakey? Ugh. The best crust is rock solid, doesn't everyone know that?
Early curses (such as the standing crust) were typically hard and tough. Average people aren't going to have ready access to servingwear all the time like we do today, so they needed something that was cheap, easy to make (realtively), and disposable; while also standing up to movement.
@@Commy01 That's really cool, I love learning about how things became the way they are, especially when they come to food. If you (or anybody) happens to have some reading on the topic I'd love to see it. Especially on when the crust went from storage to pastry.
@@fealubryne reading I do not have, but there is a channel called James Townsend and Son on CZcams that covers history (mostly food) of the late 17th, all of the 18th, and very early 19th century. The main host tries to keep it as authentic as possible. He cooks in a German kitchen with a hearth, has an indoor and outdoor earthen oven, and uses many of the same utensils that the average person would have used.
He goes into the history of the recipe, the ingredients (and why some are no longer available), and tries to fill in gaps from things left out that would have been common knowledge to people in that century.
Some basic things:
Cornmeal became popular in the Americans colonies partially because corn was so easy to grow, but also because most of the wheat was shipped back to Europe.
The salt pork you can buy in the grocery store today is not like the old salt pork of the past, which required a great deal of rinsing and soaking before use to try and draw out some of that salt content.
Pickled eggs got their color originally came from carmine that was mixed with the pickling solution. Carmine being the crushed shells of a central American bug.
Brick dust and various sands were used for cleaning dish, and they could really remove some build up.
Eggs were stored in salt, ash, saw dust, barley, and slaked lime.
@@Commy01 I actually follow him! As well as English Heritage and Modern History TV. Fantastic channels, with really wonderful information. Thank you, though, always nice to meet another person who's interested in such niche topics!
Adam used the Truth. It was super effective.
Others used denial, it's unfortunately effective

Ram Jacinto I wonder if the dude in the video is Adam Conover from Adam Ruins Everything
It really does.
He's got a voice of someone who knows everything.
except he lies a lot in his show and spreads a lot of miss-information. Some things are true but some aren't at all. The best is not to trust him and to do the research
@@jonathandpg6115 all of his information is fact checked. So it's not really lying it's more of the information they gathered has changed or updated. They aren't pushing any agenda so lying doesn't seem necessary anyways
Allie Boy you mean misinformed calling people names just makes them less likely to listen and can cause fights.
Gabzo Avro you are right about always doing the research yourself he even does segments correcting past mistakes on his show.
GODOFAWSOMENESS1 good.
I like a good CZcams brawl
The cake mix thing is true, but not for the reasons Adam said. The first mixtures were so easy that they were unpopular with housewives because it felt like they had to put in no effort of their own. By making the recipe more complicated, people felt like the result was a bigger achievement. This is also called the Ikea-effect, because it was proven in a study where people had to compare the value of furniture they built themselves with that of pre-assembled furniture. It turned out people valued things higher when they had to put in effort to get it.
It would be more appropriate to say, "American as blueberry pie." Since blueberries are indigenous to North America.
Yeah I thought everybody says that when I grew up until I heard Apple pie as an americna. I mean have you tasted it? No doubt British .
That, and the most famous recipes for apple pie in America are listed as "Dutch Apple Pie." So there's that...
Yeah. Apple pie is a traditional desert in most north European countries but for some reason, blueberry pie isn't even if it grows here (ish, it's not the same as american blueberries)
There are also european blueberries (which is why it has many vernacular in Europe) that became popular during the middle ages. It's true it's more popualr as a meal in the US today than anywhere else in the world, but originally the Ardennes are the "heart" of the "blueberries" culture.
Or pumpkin pie, as most gourds are native to the Americas. Also a lot tastier than apple pie.
"cities are less polluted then suburbs"
two words:
Los Angeles
How is this so true
Kipple 1998 hell yeah
Kipple 1998 Cities *on average* are.
Nice try.
Alec Pridgen cities as places are more polluted but the people in the cities emit a lot less co2 so if you live in a city you are living a lot more green than someone in a suburb

Fun fact, everything is "cultural appropriation" if you look back far enough. A 230 year old country isn't old enough to have nearly as many unique cultural identifiers.
Casey Goode exactly, human cultures are constructs and we are constructing this one out of off the self parts.
or a 2000 year old religion ...
I always found it funny that people accused America, a country made up from immigrants, of cultural appropriation. Did they think our ancestors would just leave all those ideas and customs back at the port?
@@paranoia_24 There are to many ignorant people that just eats up what Adam says. Without fact checking or thinking for themselves. Ive caught him on multiple occasions bullshitting or misinterpreting data for his agenda. There are plenty of vids out there about it too
Is that why you dress in black face
The "add a egg to the cake mix" thing makes sense not in freudian psychology but in behavioral economics. Like people probably feel noticeably more accomplished by doing more work adding the egg then if they didn't have to.
So what you're saying is that America took something from another culture, stuck our flag in it, and claimed it was ours...Ok... What's you're point? Sounds pretty american to me.
just a joke, I'm American myself ;)
Accurate though.
Yep America's the only country that's ever done something like that

Love love love Adam & how he tells it like it is . He's my daily go to for good laughs thank u Adam & people behind the scene's that hells him tell these things .
But, even if mother's day wasn't intended for people to buy stuff for your mom, it's still nice to buy them some chocolate/a trinket/flowers. Even if it's just from a gas station on the way to her house. I love seeing how much you can light up someone's day by giving them some $1 chocolate from a gas station. Because nobody really cares about how much money it costs, it's more like " how nice, they picked out somthing for me/was thinking of me"
Right... but you can do that on any day. Doing it specifically on mother's day just means jacked up prices. Doing it spontaneously might even be more sweet as it feels more like you genuinely thought of the person and not like an obligation

Those that are upset about Adam being a "con"
You can go check out some flat Earth videos might be more your speed.
He doesn't get every single fact right, but the message of this show is important: Don't take things for granted, challenge your own assumptions/misconceptions and don't fall for marketing and propoganda. The problem is, some people consider any media they don't agree with to be "propoganda."
@@frenchfriedrenaissancebaby6140 I believe there's a word for people like that: idiots.
@@frenchfriedrenaissancebaby6140 sure, he won't mention a lotta things especially considering houses easily empty and get forgotten except on the holidays and at least mother's day or father's day at least is an excuse to hopefully have adult children call, but some are too busy making excuses while they bribe their kids with gifts in black Friday madness lol. But yeah the message is good in small doses to try to open up to new ideas though you do need filters for bias like he can be heavy handed on the left.

The thing about the eggs was kinda right and kinda wrong.
It wasn't some weird freudian thing about wanting to "offer her egg to her husband." It was because the marketer thought that women felt it was too self-indulgent and therefore not fulfilling.
In truth the actual problem was there were cake mixes which included dried egg in the mix and those that didn't (those require an egg to be added).
The ones with dried egg in the mix were dry, stuck to the pan, did not keep as long, tasted too eggy, and other myriad of issues.
The mixes that required an egg to be added did much better because the cake made from it was better.
Don't try to not add an egg to your cake mix. It won't come out right.
Wasn't Mother's Day originally supposed to be a Catholic Church holiday, that somehow got twisted around?
This is the third time that these clips were released under a different name.

Best show ever! Love it!
Are we getting a new season?
It just started lol
I dislike when people suggest that because something originated outside of these United States that thing isn't American. The truth is most things originated outside the United States. What makes America thrive and prosper isn't forcing things to be American or only accepting what originated here, it's taking things from all over and using those things to strengthen the whole, welcoming change and accepting it as a means of strengthening what we started with.
The worst episodes in American history have been when we've tried to resist, change, oppress, or eradicate cultural differences.
In this context apple pie is very much American. It's an import we've embraced as a part of our own culture, and we're better for it.
Everyone in Britain loves apple pie. But you damn Americans have claimed it as your own. Well we have the Sunday roast, apple crumble and tea so I think I can deal with it
@@water2160
Not really. I'm saying that America is a melting pot of different cultures. Even if something originates in these United States it's still heavily influenced by immigrants.
The UK, France, China, Korea, Nigeria, The UAE, and every other nation in the world should be proud of their culture. These United States of America should also be proud of those cultures, because those cultures are what helped build ours.
@@zpardus
It kind of is. People say cultural appropriation like it's a bad thing. But embracing other cultures is how we grow and avoid jingoistic or isolationist segregation and oppression.
Saying"this is ours and you're wrong to try being a part of it" is just another form of prejudice.
That said, don't be a jerk and use other cultures to be an offensive prat.
So.... then the Mexican illegal immigrants that work hard in the fields to grow a majority of the country's food; they're American?
@@JITCompilation
We really should have a better system of welcoming immigrants and ensuring field workers get a decent wage for the work.
I'm never going swimming ever again, lol.
You are the best Adam!
What's really funny about adam ruins everything is he can bring up facts, and involve actual experts and there's still those few people who refuse to believe in the facts.
Because Adam Ruins everything is an unreliable secondary source.
@@KnightGlint aaand that's why they provide THEIR sources in on screen prompts any time Adam quotes a source. That way viewers can look up the primary source for themselves and decide if they think the source and the info in it are credible. The show puts forth a good faith effort to present factual information while making that presentation entertaining.
@@Luinta Oh, no doubt. The real meaning of these videos are to prompt the viewer to think critically. The videos quote on what the team considers reliable sources, but that doesn't mean they're infallible. It's a shame they had to push a bit their agenda in each skit instead of a true neutral, factual video (like implying "cultural appropriation" is wrong, or corporations seeking profit is wrong... uh, somehow), but overall I'd say it's quality content.
@@stormtigrex2901 well I mean, cultural appropriation IS wrong. Especislly when it's to the detriment of the history of the culture being appropriated.
As for companies making a profit, that's fine, but when they let greed overtake them and seek to profit on the backs of workers who csnt keep up (untenable min wages, using part time work to keep from having to offer benefits, etc) they have crossed a moral line that puts them in a position of saying "employees dont matter so long as the top of the company gets a bigger bonus this year" and that's just plain shitty.
@@Luinta Well shitty companies are shitty, but the feel that Adam gives me is that all companies seeking profit from the love we feel towards our mothers is somehow inmoral. We as a society make the choice to buy this and that to whoever we want, and I don't think it's correct to call a sales-day a "corporate cash grab". That's plain disengeneous.
Screw bombs what we really should use&clone the dinosaurs for the use in wars Adam. 😉
Joshua Fahrney I think there’s a movie about how that’s a bad idea.
@@Azraelean if we can do it I don't see any reason why we shouldn't try & by watching the Jurassic world\park movies if how not to make the same mistakes as they did. 😉
Joshua Fahrney there is no way that we could tame dinosaurs to fight in wars. Besides, they’d go down too fast. They might be strong but I doubt even a T rex could take a shot from a tank
@@R.DumDum I wouldn't use the T-Rex there too big I would use the raptors for fighting & flying ones to deal with the tanks& war Jets. 😈😉
Joshua Fahrney raptors wouldn’t be as effective as the movies make them appear to be. While they’d be faster, their less thick skin wouldn’t be able to repel bullets of a semi substantial size. Also, fighter jets are equipped with guns as well. Pterodactyls don’t have a body structure and anatomy to be able to take bullets. Birds, like pterodactyls, have weaker bones and less heavy meat and skin in order to fly. I doubt it could survive bullets. And raptors still don’t solve the problem for tanks, tanks use massive balls of steel as ammunition that explodes upon impact, causing shrapnel to explode everywhere. The raptors wouldn’t get out of the way in time.
OMG this guy is show is amazing!
I love your show
When will we get Adam ruins capitalism
The Mother's Day clip in this video was essentially a ruin of capitalism.
And capitalism is mostly good lol
Sam Willett no it causes exploitation and workers not having the right to their own labor
@@space1546 capitalism results in actual technological and social progress. Capitalism discourages racism and sexism and homophobia etc. in business. Capitalism allows consumers to control the companies and what products they make. It allows for individuality and choice. And some of the exploitation you mention is part of the cycle of industrialism and is a necessity for technological and economical progression. Yeah capitalism isn't perfect, but it sure as hell beats any other option. What would you prefer eh?
Sam Willett just answer one question and I’ll consider your argument what the hell are we gonna do when the capitalist class don’t need us anymore? They will no longer need us to work and will own everything what are we gonna do when there is no longer the ability for anyone to even have a house because the capitalist class own everything what will stop them from just killing us all because who the hells gonna stop them they would be so rich they could pay off the police/government if they would even try since they would be able to kill them to due to the amount of technology they would have we are all screwed and if you try to say oh but there’s no person who would do that kind of thing just think of any dictator ever

1. You can definitely get fortune cookies in China. I went to China once & observed a small fortune cookie making factory. They’re not really served in restaurants as far as I’m aware, but they do exist in the country.
2. I thought the real reason for cakes adding the superfluous eggs in the recipes was because cake mix used to only require water, but they didn’t sell because people didn’t trust cakes that could be made from mystery powder & a cup of water?
So basically, dog goes woof, cat goes miauw, and bombs goes boom
