Get him some stairs for the bed, it’ll save his joints in the long run. My mother made me some out of high density foam that have been a life saver for my elder pug. Hope it’s nothing serious. 🤞

The eyes of dogs are like the human eye. My pug too had a severe eye problem and nearly lost his eye. It was an ophthalmologist who treated his eye. Make sure the drops have no steroid in them.
Trust and pray that Stanley and Pablo are back on their feet in high spirits. The three of them are so adorable.
Bless you the way you take care of them.

One of my pugs loved jumping on and off the bed, while his brother didn’t want to be bothered with that. He would just stare at me until I lifted him up. That lasted his entire life. 😆 However, if Pablo usually jumps and his behavior is the same, it may be that he has a minor injury and needs some time to heal. Sending all the good vibes your way!
By the way, good job being an advocate for getting pugs proper vet care! 💚

Both my pugs have had eye ulcers, and it was pretty expensive since we wasn’t with the best vets at the time. As long as you just stop him from sniffing around sharp plants, and too rough play (biting, clawing heads) it shouldn’t be a problem for the him in the future! Much love to the grumble,

I don’t like pugs as a breed, nothing against the pugs themselves. This is likely the case with many vets even though they don’t say so. Because of the breeding to make them look “cute”, pugs often suffer their whole lives with breathing problems, back problems, nerve problems etc. please don’t buy pugs from breeders and try adopt. We should not be encouraging dogs with deformities just because we’re selfish and think they look cute.

  • @michaelkim3432
    @michaelkim3432 Před 4 lety +1

Karl - 3 out of our 4 pugs - all > 5 years old - have back issues from time to time. This is not uncommon with the breed. Our 2 fawns respond very well to laser and acupuncture treatments, but the main thing to do is to isolate them and make sure they physically rest their back. It's a bummer to see - Max and Lucy are both more than 10 years old now so it's an ongoing thing with them. Also, you are absolutely correct that jumping up and down from the couch or bed is not good for them since they're built like little cannonballs...very hard on the spine. We try to pick them up whenever possible and put them on the sofa rather than letting them (try) to jump. Good luck and hope Pabs feels better soon!

Sending love to the pugsters. Pablo is acting the same as my Chester Pug did. For my pug, it was his spine. Middle of his back. A weird pug thing where one vertebrae is smaller and pinches the spinal cord. If so... no more stairs. No more jumping up on sofa and bed.

Watching these videos brings a smile to me and really brightens up tough day’s we have at times and the videos also demonstrate why we love this breed so much. Sadly today September 10, 2020, I had to put my pug Jet down due to renal failure from recent kidney disease and some hip/joint/neuro problems. I hope the boys are feeling better. My pug, Maggie reached a point at around age 8 or 9 when she couldn’t get on furniture or do stairs without assistance. My pug Parsley has had corneal ulcers in both eyes he is six years old. fortunately we got him straight to the vets it still took about 4 weeks for them to completely clear up. I use a corneal eye gel twice a day now to prevent them from coming back. He also has spells when he doesn't want to jump on to the bed but it passes and he just becomes himself again. We had him checked at the vets and there was nothing wrong they said he was probably just having an off few days. so don't worry....easy to say i know. I hope all goes well for you.

We had the same eye ulcer with our pug, they said it was blunt trauma. They ended up giving us ‘plasma’ drops and it healed it up in 2 days. The optomologist also told us that it is best to always keep around eye ointment and apply it to their eyes every night before bed if they can’t fully close their eyes. This lubricates the eyes and helps prevent ulcers as well... hope all is getting better with the boys and that you get some answers about Pablo! ❤️ hugs for the pugs ❤️

My vets is too good so I didn’t but it was all the stereotypical reasons and I can’t look at her the same. No breed is perfect and if your are a educated responsible owner your pug is like any other dog. It’s almost like human genetics some are more prone to certain ailments than others. Just ignorance... don’t get me started.

Sounds like you have a great vet. If your pugs like crawling under beds I think they can sometimes hurt their own little backs. Usually they won’t curl their tails when their back is bothering them, but it’ll heal! Also like you said it could just be his age and I noticed with my pug she transitioned from jumping up on the bed to sorta doing a pull-up to get up! And eventually I started just picking her up. I called it giving her “first-class-pug”.

Percy is also sensitive to soreness. He hurt his paw racing too fast on the carpet and we had to carry him on walks. He was limping but when we carefully felt for injury he didn’t wince at all. 20 feet walking and then he would refuse to walk further and we would carry him until he squirmed to get down. Walk another 20 feet, rinse repeat. 20#/10.5 kilo is not easy to carry! Got him some puppy aspirin and he was fine. Vet would have been next if he was still limping. Might want to invest in some dog aspirin for the boys for those little ouchies.

Karl. My pug had the same long legs as Pablo. The vet said it was from a puppy mill and overbreeding. Short legs are the norm for pugs. Anyway my pug ended up with nerve damage and difficulty walking. Get those xrays and see what’s going on. We just had to put him down after a 16 year life. He had the leg issue and diabetes and could not hear or see . All the best . Love your pugs !,

You can use unscented baby wipes every other day to clean their eyes. One per pug. Wipe from inner to outer motion and one side for each eye. Also, regular saline solution the ones your use for contact lenses,

He may have a hernia in his spine. My puggy, who was only 2 last fall, stopped jumping all of a sudden, and I had no idea why. One night I picked him up and he let out a loud yelp. We gave him meds and rest for a month...no walks, no playing, was so hard, but it worked. It’s a year later, he’s 3 now and totally back to being a crazy puggy :)

Maybe get a dog stairs so he can get up on the bed easier. Will also help when they All get older and they maybe not are so good at jumping 😊.

Our pug was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and we didn't want to have her on painkillers for the rest of her life so we started giving her golden paste (tumeric) and salmon oil and the difference is night and day, she is back to running about and having fun. Might be worth trying Pablo on golden paste as it would help with any muscle inflammation around joints, wouldn't do any harm to try especially as he is getting older!

Additionally you could talk to your vet about YuMove, we had a lot of good success with that.

This happened to my last pug and he passed away last May at 14. But I noticed when he turned three, his knee started to give way. Now that I have my two little baby pugs, that just turn one... ever since I got them I train them to go up and down the stairs on the bed. My suggestion would be for you to talk to his vet. He’ll be ok, they put a cast on my dog and he was fine within weeks after the cast was removed. The cast gave time for the leg to heal. But in the long ru, after he turned a certain age he did develop Parkinson’s disease, ulcer in his eyes and eventually we are like humans they lose their memory etc. 😢 ~ I know in my heart I have no regrets, we did everything for a baby boy and he is waiting for us and the rainbow bridge when we meet again on the flip side!

Taking them to the vet is always the best advice, of course. It might be Pablo’s joints. But then ... to me it seemed like he didn’t really want to get on the bed. At least not at that moment. It think he is still annoyed by Stan’s and Winston’s shenanigans. But that’s just how it looked to me.
