Not only is the cotton line about cotton candy and oxicontin but it is also about the cotton ball diet in which woman eat cotton balls to feel full while not gaining weight which ties in to the line about having weights in your pocket wen you see the doctor.

@@BeardsBrains it's very dangerous. Because you are eating something your body can't digest. So it often causes intestinal blockages...which if left untreated is deadly.
i also think that the rotten teeth part talks about bulimia, bc it can happen if you keep throwing up, the acid from the stomach make your teeth rotten (i think she is talking about these EDs, bc the cotton ball and weights in the pockets are very much a behavior of anorexia as well)

@@heloisaangeli8331 anorexia can also cause rotten teeth because it often causes dehydration...and a dry mouth rots your teeth. So BOTH eating disorders fuck your teeth up.

This diet is one that the mother partakes in although it is dangerous. As part of her self-denial, she thinks of it as cotton candy.
This line could also be about oxycodone, given the pill diet lyrics. Taking oxycodone all the time and eating it like candy can cause weight loss and tooth decay.
As a person who’s been listening to Melanie for 6-7 years, I’m really happy to see more people listening to her still

Love the talk about the syrup in a sippycup because when you think of a syrup you know that it’s hard to drink and is sticky and then you think of a sippycup which is a cup designed to help drink thinks easier and I love her contrast of concept with relating those two together.
