1957 Ford Del Rio Wagon Restomod 1/25 Scale Model Kit Build How to Assemble Paint Two Tone Interior
The 1957 Fords wore fresh styling, and they were arguably the best-looking cars to come out of Dearborn during the Fifties. Ford’s ’57 station wagons were longer and lower than ever, and the style leader of the bunch was the two-door Del Rio Ranch Wagon. Revell has painstakingly designed this highly detailed kit to allow the builder to choose a factory-stock Del Rio or a California-style street machine.
Features
Newly tooled street machine parts include large-diameter custom wheels, a custom tube grille, smooth bumpers, and a selection of period-perfect chrome engine dress-up parts.
The highly detailed 312-cube V-8 can be built three ways. Options include single or dual carbs, along with the factory’s rare Thunderbird Special supercharger set up.
Builder’s choice of stock or lowered suspension.
Intricately detailed chassis includes a separately molded frame.
All-new decal sheet with factory-correct details.
Choice of stock wheels and tires with separate dog-dish caps or contemporary custom wheels wearing low-profile tires.
Molded in white, transparent red and clear with chrome plated parts and soft black tires.
The Ford Del Rio is a full-size, six-passenger[4] station wagon[3] that was produced by Ford in the United States for model years 1957 and 1958. The model was also marketed under the name Del Rio Ranch Wagon.
The impetus for the creation of the Del Rio was Ford's desire to remain in the two-door sport wagon market started by the Chevrolet Nomad and Pontiac Safari and the decision to discontinue the company's original attempt at a sport wagon, the premium Parklane, which failed to entice buyers during 1956, its only year in production. Four-way power seats were available.[5]
While the Nomad was Chevrolet's most expensive model, offering a premium vehicle with a show car-inspired body style, the Del Rio was strictly based on an existing product, the utilitarian two-door Ranch Wagon, Ford's least expensive station wagon, as part of the Custom 300 series.[2]
Beginning with the basic body, buyers of the Del Rio were offered a unique two-tone paint scheme (optional), better quality interior and exterior brightwork (including gold anodized aluminum accents) and a higher grade vinyl upholstery. Del Rio buyers also had their choice of either Ford's “Mileage Maker” 144 hp six or its “Thunderbird” 215 hp, 312 cubic inch (5.1 litre) displacement Y-Block V-8. The Del Rio was equipped with 11-inch front drum brakes.[1]
Like all other Ford station wagons at that time, the Del Rio used a two-piece tailgate - a feature that dealers emphasized was an advantage over GM's steeply raked rear gate and self-storing window, which were known for water leaks in heavy rains.
While the Ford sold more Del Rios in 1957 (46,105) than Chevrolet did with its Nomad in its three years of production, Ford terminated the Del Rio program at the end of the 1958 model year after selling only 12,687 of its "sport wagons".
Ford didn't entirely abandon the concept of a two-door station wagon, and used a smaller version with the all-new Ford Falcon in 1960, offered in multiple bodystyles, including a two-door station wagon.

Beautiful build! That paint combo looks like a perfect match for the box art! Those tires and rims give the perfect stance as well! Keep up the awesome work!
1957, and eleven year old me lived next to a Boeing engineer, who had just got a '57 Ford Town & Country wagon from Boeing for getting the new 707 jet passeger plane finished (all the engineers got a new Ford). I loved that car. The '57 Chev had been my fave until that Ford wagon. Chris, your buld is impressive and the option choices are spot on - for me. I can still remember riding in the back facing third seat, waving at the cars behind us. Thank you so much for this beauty build. I'm building one ASAP ! ! !
Cool story!
As a person born in San Francisco, i say it's painted up in the Giants scheme!
Aw man, I've been waiting on this one for a while! Now, let us hope they reissue that sweet '49 Mercury Woody Wagon also, the sooner the betterr!!!
My first car bought in '68 I was a '57 Ford Wagon. I was 18. It was a four door of course. Cost $195.00 - 312ci auto trans
nice build thank you
Very nice. There are going to be a lot of different ways this can be built. Keep up the great work.
Un beau montage et une belle peinture ...Congrest ...
Yours turned out awesome Chris! Mine is in the mail! I can't wait after seeing yours! 😎👍
I like that 2 piece gas tank.

Oh yes I always love estate cars /station wagon fantastic to see that they are bringing out estate cars in 1/24 (5) models got to get this.
So awesome work Chris. Bravo!
Nice job.Definitely 1950"s auto color scheme.
Chris I love your builds. I have been watching you for five years now. I watch you while I am building myself. I have a suggestion for you. If you decide to ever replace your spray booth. Try lining it with wax paper. That way you can control all the over spray and keep it cleaner. I'm going to build a large booth to do my semi's in. Thar is what I'm going to do for mine. Like I said it's just a suggestion. Love your builds and will always be a fan.
I have mine waiting to go to the bench looks like it's highly detailed I like that
This looks very nice - good choice of colors.
Sweet build ! But for tinted windows, I use actual window tint, it's super simple and looks real because it is, and your able to see through the windows.
I already scored one! Going to add torque thrusts. Thanks for sharing! Your example came out great!
This is a great kit. I built a past version is a mint green and white 2 tone.
Great kit, review and build.
👍👍
When 1st saw 👀 it I pre-ordered it
Nice update thank you R e v e l l and thank you for doing this review
Interesting...
My dad's friend, who i known since around 1985-86 has a 1:1 57 wagon.
Has a 427, C-6 transmission. Real cool car . My dad passed away in 2002.
I had the older kit I may buy this one since it has more parts
Comes In Three Varieties! -Hearse, Ambulance, -AND ECTO 1!
🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 God Bless 🙏🤗 Gary.
What a nice kit. Revell has really upped their quality the past decade or so. This is a great, easy to build kit. Good Job!
Looks great. Just received mine 2 days ago. Already have the earlier issues so definitely will have to do a custom.
Yes another great build up
Very nice. Love the Harley colors. 🏁
I so enjoy your videos, they play while I'm doing whatever I'm doing. So much better than other nonsense! Thank you for making your models you!
We had a '57 Plymouth wagon when I was a kid; so proud we didn't have to lift up the heavy rear glass like those '57 GM 2 piece rears still had. We pushed a button. Plus...'57 Mopars plain looked cool. Outstanding build here. People don't know these were real 2 tones of the day, I remember black and pink Buicks, turquoise and dark green Olds, and absolutely red and black Fords. 👀
Looks awesome as usual Chris. And that color combo is off the chain. I need to pick one up for myself.
Sweet looking kit, great build👍
Looking great as usual! Nice kit!
Very nice build. Excellent color choices. It looks great. Obviously, this is another well engineered build from Revell. Thanks for sharing.
I’ll probably buy 3 or 4 of this kit. Looks like a great kit.
I like the bottom nice colors all the way around
Have that wagon made in 2015 2 in 1 custom r police car .thanks for sharing
You have done another totally amazing build Chris enjoy watching your videos an thanks again for the time an effort you put into your videos you make for us 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I can't seem to get the window trimming that nice got a hint to help me out with that Chris
I bought the original Monogram version of this model about 2016 (kit# 85-4193). I have been slowly assembling it ever since. I'm building it as the straight stock version, but I would like to do the supercharged version of the engine, which was an official Ford option in 1957. Unfortunately, they did not include instructions for assembling the supercharger.
This model is a variation of the Ford Custom 300 2-door sedan model that came out a year or two earlier and did include the instructions for the supercharger.
I hope the nomad comes out
An ideal companion piece for the various Nomad wagon model kits available, looks great, but the location of the sprue attachment points on the wipers and the door handles have me a bit nervous, because the wipers on my Revell Mustang LX coupe broke and were unsalvageable owing to that. Thankfully I had another kit I had scrapped whose wipers fit the bill.
Another immensely enjoyable build! Just LOOKING at polystyrene parts has me salivating for my own kit! Stock, showroom new, original parts and paint colour scheme, for me! Would you know all the choices of paint colors at that time?
Is it easier to glue the motor and other body parts together first them prime I always did the l primer first them put stuff together. What is your best opinion?
On the actual vehicle, do the rear passenger side windows slide back for ventilation?
I think so, since it has that metal seam. Looks like it's made to slide back.
Which Plastruct glue do you use ? 2 or 16 ?
I use Plastruct Bondene
Whst is the green tape you use?
This is another excellent video; thank you! Question - what kind of Washi tape do you get, and where do you get it? Okay, that's two questions :)
I buy it right off the shelf in the paper crafts section of Hobby Lobby.
