    This may have been one of your clearest videos in terms of highlighting the pros and cons and just how to go through the game! Kudos! I know you don't label gimmicks as a negative thing - it just has a 'cheap' connotation but I backed this for the gimmicks, knowing that they'd be fun (and isn't that what gaming is about? It being fun?). Also, I know it's a personal thing that you like random-generated game aspects more than scripted ones but I actually am the reverse. My rational is that it allows for the stories to be more coherent and connected, building better dramatic moments that make thematic sense, rather than just having a string of unrelated events occur. But to each their own, right? Anyhoo, great video!

    Interesting initial thoughts! I just love the varying elevations characters can traverse on the map, and the fact that they are interactive is even more exciting. When you laid that bridge over the chasm, it kind of blew my mind. I didn't know that was a feature until now. The only thing that gives me pause is those character sheets with all the different innate abilities. I wonder if the number of choices is a bit overwhelming, especially if you play multiple characters. At the same time, it gives you plenty of options in combat, which is always important in games such as these!

    • @TheDungeonDive

      @@TheDungeonDive I think it is a brilliant design.
      My biggest pros:
      + cube action system with its satisfying hero turn
      + skill system
      + exploration aspect (especially the interactions book is stellar)
      + the interaction between skills, items and the cube system
      My biggest cons:
      - too easy (so far) -> QR doors should fix that
      - lack of enemy variety (but with all expansions opened it should be less a problem)
      - different terrain levels could be used more tactical
      Overall: Drunagor has a chance to become one of the best dungeon crawl games out there. I am really excited to see which new design ideas will lurk around the corner in future installments. ;)

The scripted nature of the campaign is not necessarily a major drawback if the overall design is great enough. Replayability can also come from trying different (combos of) characters and upgrades. Hi. Really enjoying your series on smaller games, even though I haven't commented on any of them. With this, I saw it being sold for crazy cash on eBay and tried to remember why I didn't back it at the time. I think it was the ugly plastic terrain modifiers and the fairly bland art style which did for it. Possibly also the limited enemy range (seems a common problem). The character action menu and development look interesting though. I also like a good story driven campaign (absolutely adore Middara so far, with two massive provisos). One thought - might be a tricky game for those without perfect colour vision.

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  Před 3 lety

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  Před 2 lety

      Personally, I almost never recommend anything more than the base pledge for almost any game (there are some exceptions). I got the base pledge plus one small expansion for this, and just the base pledge for the next release. I prefer the game solo. There is a lot of downtime during the game because you have to set a lot of stuff up while playing (setting up the new room when you open the door takes a long time), and this always caused moments of distraction for my group, and made it very hard to keep everyone focused. I also found the story to be lackluster at best. It's yet another game where you read a lot, but the writing and story just aren't any better than the most mediocre fantasy novel. The game is still great at the character level, and the action/combat is super fun.
