The barrel was a good analogy. Slowly getting better with my form and this helps me visualize what I’m aiming for.

I have been more conscious with my stroke like this for months. How do I improve my power with this?? Meaning, since I started it is much harder for me and I run out of breath. Any tips?

I always found it easier to do proper technique with paddles. Alternate a set of 4x200. first 200 no paddles, second with paddles and the same for the last two. Should really help to get a feel for the catch

Do strength exercises out of the pool. Lat pull downs and triceps extensions especially! Those are major muscles involved when swimming freestyle 💪

Establish that high elbow. Early vertical forearm and accelerate through to the hip

@@Queenfisher444Oh no they wouldn't. Just having good technique doesn't guarantee you'll be a fast swimmer. Strength is what makes swimmers fast! 💪 💪

@@Queenfisher444 Never said strength is more important in swimming than technique. You suggested that good techniques makes a swimmer fast, which can be true, that's not the only factor that makes a person fast at all. Just because someone has a perfect technique doesn't necessarily make them fast. You have to add some progressive overload of the muscles, just like any strength sport, if you want to throw harder, kick farther, and swim faster. If you never apply some sort of resistance training, you'll have a hard time increasing strength, thereby increasing speed. This is physics 101

@@joeekaps5840 no that’s not physics 101. You’re describing gravity dependent physics. Hydrodynamics are completely different, I suggest you go upskill your physics understanding.

    • @joeekaps5840

Your probably exaggerating it too much. It does make sense and works if you try for a high elbow, early vertical forearm catch. When he says wrapping your arm around the barrel or over the barrel, it's not as literal as it sounds. So my advice is to not curve your arm, but bend your arm at like a 90 degree angle so you can establish a good high elbow, thus creating a early vertical forearm and then accelerate back through to the hip. Hope this helps

@@joeekaps5840 My experience tells me that the best way to understand what a high elbow catch should feel and look like is to do the catchup drill.
