    Every time I hear these guys again I’m reminded of just how much I love them. I’ve been listening to them for 15 years and they’re legends in the visual kei scene.

      Also they were coming up around the same time as diru so a lot of the bands kind of borrowed from each other.

    Deux (2015) is one of my favs from that album! Should definitely check out the live videos for their songs Falling (2018) and Blinding Hope (2021) -- added the years so if you do check it out, you can add the timing in contrast to the performances. These two have been on replay for me so much because of how amazed I am with their live performances and I feel they greatly show Ruki's vocal range! I've had the pleasure of seeing them live twice, as well, and they definitely do not disappoint :D Not sure if I would refer to his vocals as kabuki styled or kabuki inspired. When I listen to it alone in other songs and their ballads, I just think Ruki sings with a lot of vibrato, however not particularly in a kabuki or traditional style. I could be wrong but that's just how I've always thought of it. Even Gackt, I've always thought he sings with a lot of vibrato.

    I have soft spot for visual kei! Old Versailles and Phantasmagoria, mostly. I mean, I wasn't crazy about it, but genuinely enjoyed the best of it. The gender-bending was a kick! hahaha...Musical artists of indeterminate gender are less intimidating, I think...than fully hetero types...Gazette is like the granddaddy of this old genre...lots of staying power. Not sure why...I think there's a group dynamic that limits the lifespans of most bands--members naturally develop along different paths, and so fall apart. The granddaddies of music have a rare chemistry that keeps them together. Sometimes...I think the Rolling Stones stay together because of the "ugly competition" between Jagger and Richards! hahaha...

    You seem informed and keyed in. But I personally just refer to J-Rock, J-Metal vocals (that are good) as theatrical. But I understand that it's hard to describe J-Rock vocals, because sometimes there're so intoxicating.
    I wish you the best for your channel, you have my sub :)
    I can offer recommendations if necessary

  • @tamashii6670

    Great reaction. :) But it's not J-rock, it's Visual Kei. :P Visual Kei is japanese subculture and music wave, theatrical elements are typical for Visual Kei music, also in vocals. Dir En Grey is also Visual Kei band. In Visual Kei you can find almost everything, every rock/metal genres but also folk, pop, electro, jazz etc., Visual Kei bands love experiments with music and often mixed different genres, in discography of one band you can find many different styles and genres. :)
    Interesting fact about The Gazette, their official fanclub name is Heresy, so some connections with your nickname here. ;)

    • @jonasw3945
      @jonasw3945 Před 3 lety +4

      Visual kei is part of Jrock though, J-rock just means japanese rock and encapsulates everything that involves rock/metal music and is japanese, visual kei is a subculture not a genre of music

    • @tamashii6670
      @tamashii6670 Před 3 lety +2

      @@jonasw3945 J-metal also exist. ;) And yes, Visual Kei is not music genre, it's music wave, like for example NWOBHM in UK in 80s. Visual Kei bands are always called as Visual Kei, not as j-rock, also on every site where you have informations about bands, every Visual Kei bands are signed as Visual Kei, not j-rock. And Visual Kei was created by musicians, right? By X Japan (in that time just X), the same situation like in NWOBHM which I reminded before. Also music, sound and every music elements in Visual Kei bands are different than in non Visual Kei bands, more theatrical etc. Visual side and different music side create music wave, it's not only subculture, it's also music wave, not music genre, but music wave.

    • @MicukoFelton
      @MicukoFelton Před 2 lety

      @@tamashii6670 Exactly, visual kei isn't a music genre. Meaning that they can be a jrock band and also visual kei at the same time.

    • @tamashii6670
      @tamashii6670 Před 2 lety

      @@MicukoFelton Can you read with understanding? Like I explained, Visual Kei is not music genre, but it's subculture and music wave. Jrock is also not music genre, as jrock you can call many bands with completely different styles and genres, but from heavier music and from Japan, but it's still not music genre. I know what I writing, if you want to telling me that I wrote something wrong, before this read whot I wrote. ;)

    • @MicukoFelton
      @MicukoFelton Před 2 lety

      @@tamashii6670 You're the one lacking reading comprehension. The Gazette is a jrock visual kei band. Visual kei covers the STYLE of the band, like oshare kei is the style of some bands but the genre of music can be rock or pop rock etc.
      Visual kei is their visual image. Jrock is the music genre.

    Sorry for the late comment. I have been listening to The GazettE for almost 20 years... What I've heard, Ruki (singer) was a roady for Dir en Grey and was very influenced by them. I like this band because they have some many different styles, even on one album. I would recommend Cockroach or 13 , Taion. For more light sound pop sound Silly God Disco, Swallowtail on the Death Valley.
