Being a part-time wheelchair user myself, I always assumed that Kevin was not an actual wheelchair user, based (among other things) on the fact that the wheelchair he uses on the show is pretty awful. So if he were a full-time (or even part-time) wheelchair user in real life and that was his own wheelchair, I would have felt very sorry for him for having to use that clumsy thing all the time.
He is an amazing dancer I was so sad he had to be in a wheelchair and only had 2 episodes where he is out of his wheelchair so I’m really sad cause I wanted more dancing scenes
@G. Araujo I disagree. Season 1-3 were amazing, later from season 4-6 it kinda went downhill, mainly because Ryan Murphy was mainly working on “American Horror Story” so they got other writers, and that’s what ruined it. Nothing to do with money, my dude.
@@AtomicWhiskers season 2 was entertaining, season 3 less so, but neither had the power of season 1. the show started to twist its story to sell songs.
G. Araujo 100% agree with you. Season 1 was magic and the only quality season of the show. Season 2 was still entertaining but messy and then Season 3 when it really dipped.
But he had to. It set up the idea that all the music/dance numbers were pure fantasy. They sort of undid that when they decided the music people were showing up for them, but they were treated like furniture.
@@VDombroskiII Yea! You can tell from the crowds genuine reactions - and those are some of the crowds actual video recordings used in the show :) If i was there omfg i wouldve freaked out.

Not at all. The shoppers at the mall knew they were filming an episode of Glee and had to sign waivers to appear in the show, and had to be paid as per union guidelines. The cameras and crew - dozens of them - were also set up all around to film the various shots. This wasn't a legit flash mob. The delight on their faces is real, of course, and maybe they didn't know what the scene was, but it was NOT a legit flash mob. It was a scripted, staged. But still a joy to watch.
tbh, Artie is my favorite singer amongst the boys. He might not be the BEST singer, but I just love how his voice sounds. I think he's incredibly gifted in both vocal abilities and dancing abilities :)
Not really. Quinn isn’t a monster. She has her selfless moments, but can still be very selfish. She doesn’t have selfless moments a lot but their there
Now we are told to avoid contact with others for a while, when all this bloody Corona Virus is finally conquered, everyone should run into the streets and their local shopping mall and dance this to commemorate it. I think it would help people recover.
I remember how excited I was when I first saw this scene, I was like 12 or something and I ran to my mom and screamed "ARTIE CAN WALK!" You can imagine my disappointment. I was too young to think how unrealistic that was 😂

The story is complicated. So it is very easy to get it mixed up. Ppl got confused in early days when interviewed them. They both did audition for same character. And the irony of them both wanting role of Artie. Kevin was dancer even though he denies it at times as well as singer and Chris had background in gymnastics.
I looked it up because I remember how hard it hit me when he said he wanted to be a dancer… and then that final shot sitting in his chair, his fantasy world popped, leaving him in his real world. Expertly crafted and executed… and so so sad.
This scene and episode was actually very popular in the Philippines because the Eagle Rock branch of the famed Filipino fast-food restaurant company, Jollibee, appears in the scenes. Every time Filipinos watch this, they get happy.
I never really watched the show, but would see clips here and there. I was as surprised as anyone when I saw him standing, walking, dancing. And the fact that I'm a big Men Without Hats fan helped with this as well. But I can't watch this clip without getting tears in my eyes knowing the ending is coming. That is a transition from Joy to Pathos as good as anything Chaplin ever did.
I remember this episode - Kevin McHale dreams this sequence. Here he got to highlight is great ability to dance for one episode in the series as well as his ability to sing. I was happy to see him do it all for one episode in this long running series.
He also danced with Mike on the Michael Jackson episode. The song was "Scream". And on Glee Actually, he danced and sang to Feliz Navidad. Maybe there were some others, I don't know.
God this took me by storm when I was 10. Such a great show for the time! I remember feeling sick and sad to my gut when it was revealed to be a fantasy. I felt genuinely ill I was so upset for this TV show character!
I had no idea that Joss Whedon directed the episode. That's awesome. I just realized that it has so many of my favorite songs. Mama Cass - Dream a Little Dream of Me by Artie was so good.
This scene is so amazing because he is really a good dancer but held back being in a chair. No doubt making people understand how frustrating being disabled is.
this episode was directed by Joss Whedon, the same guy who created Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Avengers and Avengers Age of Ultron director and sadly Justice League 2017 reshoots
Tell me about depression. I loved to dance, now I'm in a wheelchair and never even walk again. From time to time I come here and see Artie so I can imagine that I can dance if I want to.
Suki I'm going to tell you to look up wheelchair dancing you can dance just not with legs. Many kinds of wheelchair dances im sure soke are on CZcams. Sad no one in glee verse told Artie about it.
@@majormana1 I really appreciate your suggestion. Actually I've asked my therapists about this but they told me that my injury is too "high" (D3 to D6), that means I can't control (or feel, except for a pain in the lower back) anything under my chest, I lost my abs and can't have them again, which leaves me out of wheelchair sports and, of course, wheelchair dancing. I used to play guitar, but I can't get a decent posture, so I" wrap" myself around the guitar, which leaves me with a annoying backache. I don't play very often nowadays.
I used to listen to this song on my cd and i wasnt aloud to watch it so this last year when i watched it i cried when he like slams back into his chair

I swear until this scene I was convinced that Kevin was actually in a wheelchair 😅
me too xD don't worry
Yeah same here! He was so good convincing at it.

He can walk in real life I presume. XD
He was in Last Friday night Katy Perry music video. XD

Funny thing. Glee choreographer was quoted as being frustrated because the best male dancer (Kevin) was playing handicapped character
Id like a sequel one maybe surronded about beth played by dove cameron
Best male dancer was Harry or Matt lol but yup, Kevin is definitely top 3
They were probably like.
"... But whyyyyyyyyyyyyy?" *Ugly crying*
Too be honest he actually danced (wheel danced) pretty good while in the wheelchair as well.
He is an amazing dancer I was so sad he had to be in a wheelchair and only had 2 episodes where he is out of his wheelchair so I’m really sad cause I wanted more dancing scenes
it's really ironic that one of the best dancers in the show was on a wheelchair :)
This song along, the performance, the characterter, Artie, was the best
Poor guy had to work with Finn the whole time smh so sad
Harry Shum Jr is miles better than Kevin will ever be
@@rosierennie5867 Well he is a profesional dancer so there is that. I said "one of the" not THE best.
I will never forgive glee for putting their best dancer in a wheelchair for 6 seasons

He did in the last episode.
During 'To Sir, With Love'.
Who is matt
Matt left by choice bc he didn't get many lines
Not Santana. She’s good but not great. Jake and Sebastian tho. They both do flips and tricks plus Sebastian can tap dance in real life
