  • Jason Mallinson, 50, from Huddersfield and John Volanthen, 47, from Bristol were greeted by Thai ministers upon arriving at a Bangkok airport ahead of their flight back to the UK, and awarded free travel to the Asian nation - for life. Video shows the exhausted pair trudging through the airport in their shorts, t-shirt and backpacks before meeting Thailand's ministers for Tourism and Travel. Mr Volanthen and Mr Mallinson were among the team of British divers who took part in the daring rescue of 12 youth football players and their coach trapped in a flooded cave in northern Thailand.

I am from Thailand. We would never accomplish this task without these two men. Very much thank you for their great contributions. Can you imagine someone suddenly flew from their country to help people they do not know in the other part of the world despite knowing they would risk their lives? They are truely heroes.

tantanode: Keep in mind though that without all the Thai people, these men could not have accomplished what they did. They needed tremendous support which they got from the Thai people who pumped water out of cave, filled and laid in the air tanks all along the route, provided food and drink for all the rescuers, and one Thai woman who owned a laundry also picked up the rescuers wet clothes each night, washed and dried them, and had them back early each morning.
So, MUCH respect for the Thai people in all this. Makes me want to visit Thailand some day. (I'm American - USA).

Khalid Bel3o I will tell you why it took 17 days to rescue them.
Because they was still practicing there final grand "debut"
      -Take boys into cave
      - Wait for new reporter to get there
      - allow them to broadcast it to millions of people around the world.
      - Get a Navy Thai seals to rescue them but then he dies.
      - get USA Elon Musk to advertise he's great product and make him like the hero
Then someone said. Oh but this looks like in favour of us? We must show the public that we too have suffered in some way.
Someone said I got it. Let's say the Australian doctor dad died on the last day as he was just coming out rescuing the team.
BOOM! That's a rap! and public will know. Western save the day!

It is very beautiful to see this. I have so much respect for these people, and for all the other divers and rescue personnel.
Also I wanted to say the guy with the glasses is HUGE! He could be a wrestler or something, lol. How someone who is so tall would actually want to cave dive through super narrow passages as a passion is astonishing. Good for him, though.
PS I will always think of these guys when I hear "brilliant" from now on lol

I hope they get some much needed rest. I know they've just experienced a high stress job, one that even if most had the skills and information most would still be scared to tackle. and they lost a crew member.

For entering an open tourist attraction in a national park?
The sign maintained by the National Parks Authority outside the cave confirmed the tourist attraction was open and only warned about flooding and danger July to November. The sign is probably replaced with a more appropriate one now...

WOW THIS IS A AMAZING GREAT FULL VIDEO.
I’m here in the USA watching this today Thursday in 🇺🇸
I cannot express how proud I’m feeling about the divers and the many thankful Thai dignitaries giving these awards.
These 2 U.K. men along with the Doctor dropped everything traveled across continents knowing this would be the dive of their lives to save 13 people.
Mother Nature changed quickly trapping the kids and coach who went to the best place for safety.
It’s simply extraordinary these men with thousands of Thai workers and others who voluntarily worked out a plan like this and rescued everyone in 3 days!
To my knowledge it’s unheard of before this.
The journey in and out was a treacherous dive throwing every possible obstacle at them.
Nationalities of all different countries came together.
The coach keeping the children calm is a huge credit.
Knowing he once was a Monk had me say the kids minds were in sync.
That coach did a fantastic job!
We must not forget the Royal Navy Seals who also went in and made their way thru muddy waters. You
I believe a higher power intervened.
    The Buddhist is very powerful.
I can see why Thai people are so kind and giving.
    Your country is beyond beautiful.
God Bless the Royal Navy Seal who passed away coming back after delivering oxygen tanks to the 13 HERO’S.
Sanman will never be forgotten in Thailand and around the world.
May Sanman Kunan Rest In Peace.
My prayers are with his wife, children, parents, and siblings ❣️🇹🇭 🙏🏻❣️

All of you are truly gracious and humble. The Thai Navy Seals are truly impressive men. And, all the Thai volunteers were so wonderful. (From an American - the US).
