Former toy designer, current CZcams maker and general robotics, electrical and mechanical engineer, I’m a fan of doing it yourself and innovation by trial and error. My channel is where I share some of my useful and not-so-useful inventions, designs and maker advice. Iron Man is my go-to cosplay, and 3D printing can solve most issues - broken bolts, missing parts, world hunger, you name it.
XRobots is the community around my content where you can get in touch, share tips and advice, and more build FAQs, schematics and designs are also available. - Věda a technologie

That's the first thing I noticed. It almost looks like pre-Covid times.

Welcome to SURVIVE
Good to hear! I recently helped out at an anime convention that had a similar requirements, but also with masks. Between myself and the group of ~30 I was there with, not a single one of us, nor anyone we knew of, caught the virus while we were there. It was a splendid time and I'm extremely grateful for the scientists and engineers working tirelessly to move science forward for the rest of us :)
4:03 When you're dog sucker punches you for waking them up XD
XDDDDD
Had to watch it in 0.25 speed just to... confirm 🤣 Sorry James!
Love that he kept that in the video XD
Hi James, it 's great to see your report from TCT. Sadly I could not return to the event this year, so missed saying "Hello". With Best Wishes, Chris.
I looked out for you, see you next year hopefully!
04:04 The robot uprising has begun.
I love how polite and humble all these incredible engineers are. Its like if a meeting of mad scientists were written by Terry Prachet
Actually engineers are always afraid that you’ll find a bug or flaw in their design.
So many cool builds! Both you and Matt, and the droid
The perfect duo to represent us! Thank you both for bringing the Lulz to TCT 3Sixty this year!
The feeling, when your own dog kicks you in the face,
Lego, please take note and make the giant pieces available for consumers! :)
they will probably issue a cease and desist for using the lego name like they did with ashville aggregates who simply referred (not named) to his concrete blocks as lego
At Lego's modern prices, that full size kart set would cost 1 million dollars...
...duplo
@@eliotmansfield I wouldn't be surprised 😂

Thank you James - I look forward to seeing you again soon!!! :)
Cheers Sam!
That was a great build of yours!
having a 3d printer that can install brass inserts while it prints seems very useful
I love the wobbliness of Open Dog 2.0. It really makes it come to live in a loveable way. It really looks like an old scruffy bulldog wandering around.
4:02 The uprising has begun.
I love the organic motion of your current OpenDog, it's strangely cute.
"There were a bunch of other things here that look very interesting but are the subject of a video I'm not making" That ending of the line killed me for some reason
Wow it feels so strange to see so many people without masks.
That's a LOT of printing. Great result though 👍
Tons of fun! Glad there was an event worth covering! Thanks James!
Well done James! Looks like you were a big hit... I also think it's great that you humbly included your boot up woes in the video :D Keep up the good work!
Really appreciate all of the hard work you do James Bruton! Keeping the channel interesting!
Thx. Great job. Enjoyed the coverage.
It was really nice meeting you there James: Great event, booth and people!
Woo, Matt Denton and his Lego inspired kart!
those Lego buids were an amazing idea!
Greetings to the lego lawyers, who are checking if they can sue him for using the word "Lego" the wrong way.
"Lego _inspired_ go-cart." Nice cover, it's the little things... that can save you from a cease and desist.😄
Great video and awesome builds. That Lego bulldozer is sooo cool 😍👏👏👏👏
(5:36) Killer Robots! I've read stories about people getting killed by donut making machines and if someone went where they aren't supposed to be, this could turn into a meat grinder real quick.
I’m so glad you included this footage 4:03 😂😂😂
Ooh! You're interviewing technique has gotten really nice! Lovely vid!
I think those lego build need their own video, would be interesting to see the build on the plastic and the scaling up processes etc.
Cool! I still love that version of your opendog...always reminds me of a bull dog! Great to see the world thawing out a bit from covid!
I have never heard someone pronounce Linus like Linux. Neat.
Linus Torvalds named Linux after himself, so it's usually pronounced like in the dialect he uses.
Very nice
Wow, opendog really pack a punch!
4:03 opendog: HEY! dont touch me there!
The drunk animal feel is what makes opendog so adorable. Like a bulldog that's really enjoying itself.
I really like your videos. They're just facts, tech-talk and no bulls...
I wish I was smart enough to build that lego go kart, my kids would love it
4:03 - The first blow is struck in the robot uprising.
5:38 HOW IS THIS ARM SO FAST? I even checked twice if it wasn't sped up. That's amazing.
The big arms tend to move about that fast when in action, if the thing they're doing doesn't need slowness. Unlike an animal, a machine can move as fast as its engines/motors can drive it, which means the warnings to stay back when something is operating are extra important. When it's large, people often think it's slow; when it's small, people tend to think it's weak. Those ideas are due to human experience with other living things, but machines aren't always the way we think they "should" be.
Would love to see you demonstrate the new xiaomi robot dog, and maybe try to reverse engineer some of it's mechanisms. Supposedly it will cost as much or less than an iPhone 13 pro so it's not extraordinarily expensive, but I dont run a robotics youtube channel, or have any real use for it at all, plus I would love to see how you would go about recreating some of the mechanisms present and how you may be able to apply them to opendog.
Accelerometers in moving components… I hope James takes some inspiration from this in order to make robotics that respond to reality, rather than just ideal mathematics or reality-with-ish-tons-of-dampening. ❤️
Hearing Ivan Miranda mentioned makes me really want to see OpenDog + giant3d mk 4! Would it be an OpenBear perhaps?
It's was nice to meet you at the show, and I hope your head was OK as it really gave you a good crack on the head lol.
James ♥️ Dynamics
4:02 can't stop laughing! The judgment day is nigh.
Yay! E3D!
I'm really impressed with the work you put into open dog. Looks to me like a contender for Boston Dynamics. Will we see it do the "running man" ? :)
Suggestion: please cover the robot dog with a Bulbasaur skin
It Will be dope
PS: love your creations
(4:02) Dog you wouldn't hit a man with glasses. Oh you would!
I wonder what the tolerances would be like if lego was to make a car like that with the same tolerances for their regular parts but scaled up.
4:03 Open dog or open boxer, Seems like open dog wanted a sucker punch revenge from being manhandled lol
He was talking 3D printed pew pew’s, really cool show man!
Did you know that in Germany it isn't allowed to call a plastic stone, which looks like a lego brick, "lego"! Only bricks sold from Lego is allowed to call Lego. All the other had to be called "Klembausteine"
Will those new nozzle heatbreak combinations be backwords compatable with the current version of the Hemera?
I wonder if those new nozzles will help the Hemera heat creep issue.
this channel is still kinda underrated..
it deserves more than 100 million subs
4:02 lmaooo it just smacked u right in the face
James could be seen filming in the background of Vector 3Ds video :)
so good to see people running around without masks. I wish my country had that
There was a strict COVID Passport policy in place - check out the pinned post. The rest of the country is generally wearing masks.
Great work James!
With advancements in 3D printing and larger more complex build assemblies, are you still happy with Fusion 360 as your CAD platform? I am having a hard time choosing between Fusion 360 or the new release hobby version of Solidworks. Any opinion would be grateful.
I've never really used anything else but there was talk about hobby Solidworks at the show - no idea what it's like though.
@@jamesbruton Thanks for the reply! Anyone else have thoughts on the subject?
How about building something that would benefit a lot of people, like a 3d scanner.
Good!
LTT is using your outro music as their background music in the video you linked! Coincidence?
Epic
I hope I can show off my revolutionary 3D printer here next year.
That guys smiles at 10:30, that's the inner boys smile haha
Hello sir ! Can we 3d print lego parts and lego mind storm ?
ouch .... @ 4:02 naughty open dog
I was going to ask how the scale of the show was compared to previous years and you covered it. It's going to be a while before people are confident to invest in a booth I feel :(
Yeah, Interplas was massive though
Drunk animal of some sort..you mean a drunk dog? Lol
all hail the smartest BritBong James
Open dog is truly a masterpiece of engineering 4:03
Open Doggo getting revenge for being packed up to get to the show?
Its like a big, fat scary, arthritic, olde English bulldog creature of some sort...
I'm getting pretty confident that *you* can make pretty much anything ever with your 3d printers...
Some of these videos are less: let's learn something cool while building something that will demonstrate the topic well...
And more like: I wonder what crazy 'thing' hasn't been built yet... let's try that one.
I love build Legos 😊😊😊
4:03 lmfao
Open dog seems more like open koala on ground
OMG. 5:38 the speed of that thing scares me.
who made the lego bulldozer?
To me its problem is that it's slow, not wobbly. Hope version 3 to be faster...
Yea, build a robo-RGBhound, because a greyhound would be mundane. In keeping with the name, have rgb lighting effects down the limbs. Have a running gait based on that of racing dogs.
@@JohnDlugosz don't think I'm following your logic.

Did opendog punch you the head? :D
Kicked you right in the noggin. He needs a treat or is jealous of v3.

Damn dude... Luckily nothing too bad happened 😅
Such a shame about the fuel crisis. Couldn’t go :-(
2:29 that's a lot of z-banding. Looks like my tronxy did it.
4:03 wtf X'D
Cool
Interesting difference between the US & UK: Covid restrictions eased in the UK, but no masks. In the US, Covid restrictions eased (never as harsh as the UK’s to be fair), but masks are still 50%/50%.
(No, it’s not just unvaccinated people wearing masks; I’m vaccinated but am waiting for full scientific data on Delta to stabilize, as well as Delta hospitalizations to drop before giving up the safety habit.)
its "lie nus"
not "lee nus" :)
I predict that LEGO will sue this guy for calling these bricks "LEGOs" as they like to do, because it's a horrible money-obsessed company....
Gooooo
Would be careful calling stuff Lego^^
Probably why Matt immediately corrects it to "Lego INSPIRED"
Clamp bricks, which are not from Lego, must not be called LEGO. LEGO has already sued some people for this.
Lets just call everything Lego. They can't sue all of us, and the meaning will tarnish if they don't protect it.
goo
no mask??
