Same here! Also, this was one of the weaker, early episodes. It gets a lot more interesting when you have two people who _really_ didn't get along, and they're constantly throwing at barbs at each other while Chuck (the host) tries to wrangle them back into talking about what happened on the date. :)
This was a real nice palette-cleanser. Keep some of these on the back burner in case something like Three's A Crowd comes along and kills your faith in humanity.
I love seeing real people on TV. No age limit, no fancy makeup, no ritzy titzy talk. Just lookin for love. That's why Love Connection was great and was beloved by many.
In case you didn't figure it out, the audience vote matters because they pay for a second date if the audience voted for that match.

It might have been a lot more difficult back in those days to be able to have a film crew follow people around on a date. Or at least a lot less cost effective. The fact that they had voting machines is mind blowing tbh. I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually just a work.
They had guests on the show who deliberately lied on their applications just to get on this show. There was one guest who let it slip that he'd gotten engaged the week before his show was taped.
Sounds about right, the cost of crew and equipment for filming that kind of outing is well beyond most shows budget since they spent everything on studio production.
This is now the best show you watch.
But you've got to get into the deeper episodes. Chuck didn't do his famous "We'll be back in 2 and 2," and I immediately knew you were in the way early years. Stick with it. This show is solid as hell and one of my grandma's favorites when I was a kid! lol
Agreed! I could tell it was early in the show's run by the primitive looking, flickering roll-up counters for the audience vote. When I was watching, the voting graphics looked a lot better than that.
@@Narrator007 - I hope they give it another chance, because I have such fond memories of this show. It was the first of its kind and they had a lot of kinks to work out...and unfortunately, the fellas chose an episode from the development phase.

This was Chuck's next hosting gig after he was fired from "Wheel of Fortune" in late 1981 over a salary dispute. It would turn out to be his longest lasting one as well, as he would be doing this one until the fall of 1994. He also did "Scrabble" at the same time as this from 1984 to 1990, and again briefly in 1993.

Probably not a coincidence that the only dating show that is real and produces real couples is the one where they don’t send cameras on the dates. Doesn’t do much for the show though.
This was from the 80s and 90s. This specific episode was from the first weeks of the show.
Guys, you need to check out "Blind Date", "ElimiDATE", and "Room Raiders" for some ridiculous old 2000's 30 minute dating game shows.

I can’t watch this without thinking about baggage. This show is literally baggage but just without the baggage and the gimmicks, choose 1 out of 3 to go on a date
This is 80s baggage that is completely raw and has actual love potential (couple 2)
Out of all of these Watchin’ episodes this is the one where our two boys feel like aliens (Jimmy especially) and I mean that in the nicest way possible.

Yo first off, I’m going to need a follow-up episode on Jack and Heather’s date for sure.
Secondly, this is a great example of why I couldn’t stand Take Me Out but watched every single ep on your channel like 3 times... the silly gimmicks and gags are oddly crucial to a show having gravity. I *think* it’s mainly the contestants, though. This show turned on a DIME once MS. SHOOK came out hahaha. The crowd came alive, the show had a nice trajectory - from bland and real to Sidell and Duke recounting their adventurous tales of love and passion. I’d love seeing more of these, haha great ep dudes. Truly hoping these older shows are safe #RIPeverything #StayWatchin
Everyone should find a Sidell to spend the rest of their life with, she was so wonderful and it seemed like Duke was all in on it and had a great time. I have a feeling that Duke may be a little bit more laid back, but Sidell brought the adventurer out of him and he actually ended up enjoy that aspect of himself.
Also the whole show warms your heart, even when the dates don't turn out well we still understand why it didn't and it still makes you feel good that two incompatible people didn't try to force a relationship.

You should do Figure it Out or What Would You Do from 90s nick shows. I think figure it out would be hilarious with the weird things they do.
Two things:
1. This felt so much breezier than Fifth Wheel. Both half hour shows, but Fifth Wheel was so gross, it felt like it lasted forever.
2. I had a co-worker who was on Love Connection when she lived in LA. There was no second date.

Random note on the toilet paper... Most toilet paper until the early 90s was various colors. Think there was some kind of cancer scare with the dye which ended that practice. Pretty ubiquitous back then to see blue, light brown or pink toilet paper.

They should definitely watch kid nation. It's not a game show, but it's great. Especially reading about it afterward. Kids facing off with bulls, drinking bleach, slaughtering chickens. It was real messed up, but so entertaining
