Just a little info MGN, it is not easy even for Filipinos to learn the intonations and pronunciations of Mandarin. So what KZ did here is wow, I mean she learned the song in 2 weeks. I agree about the repetitiveness at the second verse. But yeah, you found the perfect word, vulnerability. She did it flawlessly music and performance wise.

@MGN... just a quick fact about KZ not being a belter, she actually CAN'T belt out because a few years back she has a surgery on her throat, and she lost her voice during her high school years. So to be able to get back into music and singing, she had to make her own styles and make use of her creativity to prove that music is not only for the belters but it is an expression of your own uniqueness and creativity. And she proved just that. She may not be a belter, but she gained her popularity because of her creativity and unique music style. Sharing just so you know and be more amazed of how she does this. She's truly amazing.

She's got very good pronunciation and intonation in Chinese. I don't need to read the lyrics and know what she's singing. Certainly, the pronunciation of some words can be improved.

I read somewhere that her pronunciation of the Chinese lyrics did her in. But her voice surprised me. It's one of the most beautiful I've ever heard! Now I don't know which I prefer her using- her straight tone chest voice or her upper register head tones with vibrato. I like them both, she can sing with a beat or ballads like this one. She is one of the most talented singers in the Philippines as well as the world.

She was amazing. The fact you connected to audience's hearts, and you sang a song that is not really your language, you can say, she really performed great. Performance wise, maybe you will not think she will be placed on the 6th rank on that performance. I don't know what is their basis but if im the one who judge on that episode, I will place her on the TOP 4.
If you would only watch the entire performance of all of them.... absolutely you guys will be in awe, most of the contender sings with their own preferred language and even if you can't understand it... it will gives you goosebumps and will make you stomp at your feet. They truly are brilliant contestant. No matter what the language they are using to sing, but it's the music and connection to the audience that's make them so amazing and incredible as a singer. I, in my opinion, language barrier is not a problem as long as the song/music captured your heart and hit you deeply then it's done. Justice has been served. (You don't need to hit the high notes or to growl or shout to be a singer, what really matter is, you captured the heart of your audience, you deeply hit them and made them cry because of your way of singing and way of delivering it to them then for me.... you are truly a magnificent & incredible singer).
I totally agree! Every contender was ready with their own creativity and performed well. My two cents on this is that the turn out may actually have something to do with KZ's 1st performance. One of the contenders, Wang Feng, who is also of great calibre in his musical background said, 'They should bring more people like her in the competition.' Hua Hua, who got the first place from the last round, secluded himself for 2 days to come up with the arrangement of his performance. Angela Chang, on 3rd, opened her heart out and sang her past pains. Jessie, sang partly in Mandarin. KZ's 1st performance gave a lasting impression to the audience but somehow triggered also creativity and artistry of other artists to up their game in their next performance. Her performance here is impressive on it's own. She showed her versatility as an artist, so are the other contenders. It is as it is.

I'm Filipino-Chinese and I think this is a good review. A lot of Pinoy KZ fans saw the beginning part of the video negatively and started keeping a closed mind for the rest of the video. Looking at the whole idea of the video, all the reviewers were trying to say was why the hell did such an amazing performance deserve 6th place (implying that she deserved a very high ranking for this song). Whether it's a reverbnation or an autotune, it really doesn't matter since she's a great singer and anything that we hear are only tools that she uses to give more flavor and uniqueness to the song.
She's 6th place because she made them cry. LOL 😂 but seriously, the others were all out with their performance like big movements (watch HuaHua and Jessie J) on the stage. Maybe that's what the judges really want. Can't wait for episode 7!

I really love your reaction videos. The reason for KZ placed as 6th place is because her pronunciations are not right but what made people love about her is the feel she's giving into the song. Well, many of my Chinese friends said they love the tone of KZ using into the songs.
Just to clarify everything. Its still not autotune its reverb. "Autotune shifts any pitch imperfections to make the song completely in tune. Reverb generates an echo-like effect, as if performing in a large space with reflective walls. In short, autotune is used to correct tune while reverb is a room simulator. Im not an expert tho. So peace. Hehe

MGN PLEASE READ THIS. i watched the full episode. She explained everything there. KZ studied the song which is Mandarin; how to sing the song and how to pronounce it correctly for just less than 2 weeks. and the song that she sang is three songs combined and she only did it, also, in just less than two weeks. And even though we also live in asia, most of us filipinos don't speak and understand Chinese language, especially Mandarin, which I heard from one of my friends who study foreign relations, is one of the dialects of China that is hard to speak. So studying it for less than two weeks is very hard for her. the full episode showed that she really struggled in it.

Actually in her country. KZ is more known in the mass with her soulful ballads (like: Mahal Mo o Mahal Ako and Wag Ka Ng Umiyak) and not so in her pop, hiphop and angst genre. I agree in Airy parts and Airy transitions. Very like Mariah Carey. I guess she was so influenced by Mariah. I saw her in Mariah's concert here in the Philippines way back 2014.

i watched the full episode. She explained everything there. KZ studied the song which is Mandarin; how to sing the song and how to pronounce it correctly for just less than 2 weeks. and the song that she sang is three songs combined and she only did it, also, in just less than two weeks. And even though we also live in asia, most of us filipinos don't speak and understand Chinese language, especially Mandarin, which I heard from one of my friends who study foreign relations, is one of the dialects of China that is hard to speak. So studying it for less than two weeks is very hard for her. the full episode showed that she really struggled in it.

This has to be my favorite reaction video of KZ's performance so far.
Actually in her country. KZ is more known in the mass with her soulful ballads (like: Mahal Mo o Mahal Ako and Wag Ka Ng Umiyak) and not so in her pop, hiphop and angst genre.
