Not sure if Passat would be the same as 2012 Jetta but its much easier to put the front end into Service Position or Mode. Crazy but it does work. Front clip unbolts from subframe, install two size 10 bolts 100mm long and front clip which includes headlights, radiator, bumper slides forward giving plenty of room to work in that area. first time takes a while but now I can do it in 1 hr maybe less. theres a good video on it. Look under alternator replace Jetta or service Mode

Yes it is the same as the Passat. This is how I did my alternator in my driveway.
Drop the front clip onto a spare tire

This is a completely different design to my european 2013 2.0TDI passat! My intercooler is just behind the main rad! What is your engine code?

ours is just behind the main engine rad also , mounted on the front of the engine. Wherever it is, the same cleaning will work.

Well done for cleaning up the air charge cooling manifold yourself. Many many dealerships, from most car brands, simply are run like 'cartels' to fleece honest car owners for as much as they can get away with. It's disgusting behaviour.
Unfortunately, almost none of the main dealerships anywhere have genuine mechanics that care for their customers. Most are simply parts replacement 'specialists' ... or dishonest shameless monkeys as I call them.
As you've shown in your calm & collected video here, many many parts on our cars can be checked, cleaned-up and reinstalled. Just like what you've done here. The silly monkeys in stealerships are so disrespectful & dishonest, that they don't even consider offering the option to customers, that a part like this (basically a container with cooling fins inside, just like a basic little radiator) can be cleaned/flushed out and reused. The sad part is many car companies market on&on about their environment credentials, but in reality the dealerships they own or associate themselves with simply remove & throw away millions & millions of such perfectly reusable components each month, year ... all simply to make more profit ... Greed pure & simple.
I mean, even if a particular garage may not themselves offer a clean-up service of such a part (instead of asking you to pay thousands each time for a replacement!!), they could at least try to be honest & say 'yes, the air cooler container can be cleaned as DIY or by an independent trusty mechanic'. It would be honest & kind advice to customers. I'm sure not every customer can afford to spend 1000's each time the crappy system fills up with exhaust crud.
But most stealerships & the 'cartels' that run them, couldn't care less and only try to scare customers with false info about the system so that the poor customer feels like they have no choice but to have the dealer repair the issue at huge cost.
Many of today's modern car systems have been made intentionally electronic to try and deceive the motoring customers into fearing working in their own cars as DIY, and instead repeatedly just take their cars to the stealerships to get fleeced financially whenever a silly light appears on their dash.
I am not ignorant of the trade as I work in the motoring industry myself. But I genuinely detest the direction most car manufacturers are taking, making normal family cars needlessly over-complicated with extortionately over-priced replacement part prices. I work in the industry because I've always loved cars and developing beautiful vehicles for transport. But unfortunately even if you work in the industry, it doesn't mean you can change the direction of the industry yourself instantly.
I fear that the basic function of general cars ... to be used to transport us from a to b reliably & economically ... is being lost by motor manufacturers as they cram ever more electronic systems (needless rubbish?) into modern vehicles, making them needlessly prone to endless electronic gremlin faults.
To end, congrats again for maintaining your car yourself. A nice calm video to describe too.
Just wanted to write this, as people may think all engineers working at the car manufacturers intentionally are to blame for incidences like this. But there are incredible engineers who develop our cars, but we don't always get the final say in how the whole car gets to be put together, unfortunately. But we do enjoy working in the motoring industry. So the way many dealerships behave or that they don't even bother to do what you did to minimise cost to customer and impact of throwing millions & millions of re-usable components to the bin each month, infuriates many of us considerate engineers.
Sorry for my extremely long comment, but as your 1st commenter on this video ... maybe you'll forgive me! 😉
Keep up your DIY on your cars. All the best to you.
    Cheers, Mas (from UK)
Ps: Subbed also to show my little support to you for rolling up your sleeves to dive in, investigate & fix your car yourself. Top marks for effort & pat yourself on your back mate ... and treat yourself and family to a nice meal to celebrate and saving yourself all that dough! 🙂
