@U P Good, they're meant to. They're not meant to scare you from getting a car or learning how to drive, they're just there to make sure people realize that having a license is a privilege, not a right.
Actually it was based on empirical survey data/research that showed they weren’t having an effect anymore but keep on fighting the culture wars my dude.
The scariest part about being in an accident in rural Australia is knowing you could be pinned upside down next to your mate whose dead for hours before someone finds you, that thought alone is enough to make sure that I never drive over the limit or fatigued and keep speeding reasonable (speeding is treated different in New Zealand)

There's no real incentive to stop road deaths in the USA, though. Here in Australia, the government coughs up a lot of money for every road death or injury. The biggest expense is medical (which the government has to pay for). Therefore, it's in the government's own interest to reduce this toll. In the USA, where medicine is for profit, it's actually a *good* thing to have more road injuries, because it keeps the hospitals and doctors in business.
CheesyTV no, in Victoria we pay for it with the TAC charge on our rego. When I was in America, vehicle registration was much cheaper, but insurance was more expensive as thats how you are covered for road accident injuries there. The TAC is a government insurer but drivers still pay
This should be an add to add a separator, or road median between two incoming roads, not that speed kills. even if you're going 40 or 30 kph and someone goes over the line and hits you head on , it will not end well!!
@@reecewithoutherspoon1324 Not so sure, it all depends on the incoming vehicle speed. It's all about resistance and force, angle of hit and so on. I read a report on it a few years back and surprisingly depending on model a higher speed vehicle sustained less damage on the driver due to higher speed. Apparently it forced the other car to surrender sooner providing less resistance and so on. This is nothing I would test out myself mind you!
@@AnarchoHumanism Yeah ofc, there are many things to take into account. I also agree with what you read on that point, but at the same time, that would require one vehicle to be driving fast. If that vehicle is driving 140 kph, as you said, the slower person is more at risk, sure. But if the faster car is going 80kph I'd say most of the time it would end a lot better. But yeah, median strips would be great, then it wouldn't matter nearly as much.
