    It's ironic that for all his hard (and ruthless) work to have an heir and for his "legacy" to live on Henry VIII failed whereas his sister Margaret actually *had* several heirs on the English throne. In a way it was poetic justice.
    All three of Henry's children: Edward VI (to Jane Seymour), Mary I (to Catherine of Aragon) and Elisabeth (to Anne Boleyn) ruled in turn but *none had heirs of their own* . Edward died aged 14 so we'll never know if he'd have children but as for Henry's daughters Mary and Elisabeth it goes without saying that how badly he treated their mothers (and them too during their childhood) probably made them both very wary of any men claiming to "love" them. Their father said the same to their mothers and then tossed them aside (abandoned and executed respectively) when they were of no "use" to him anymore.
    Meanwhile the great-grandchild of Margaret Tudor was king James I of England (also James VI of Scotland). Some argued that Margaret's grand-daughter Mary the Queen of Scots had more legitimacy to the English throne than Elisabeth had. Whatever the case may be it was Margaret Tudor's line that inherited the English throne not Henry Tudor's (as in Henry VIII). If Henry could have learned of these future events he'd probably go mad from anger and disappointment.
    Even more remarkable is that once James I became king of England there now was a *Scottish* family, the Stuarts, on the English throne. So in a way Margaret managed what the likes of Robert the Bruce (and William Wallace) could only have dreamed of.
    Margaret's great-great grandson was Charles I, king of England.
    Her great-great-great grandsons were Charles II and James II, both kings of both England and Scotland.
    Her great-great-great-great grandson was Williams III, king of England and Scotland.
    Her great-great-great-great granddaughters were Mary II and Anne I, both queens of England. Queen Anne was also the first ruler of Great Britain (following the act of Union 1707).
    The Stuart dynasty might have ended with Queen Anne but the subsequent Hanoverians (George I, II, III, IV etc) all traced their lineage back to James I via his daughter Elizabeth Stuart and her granddaughter Sophia of Hanover (mother of king George I) and since James I was the great-grandson of Margaret Tudor...
    So what does this mean? It means that the present day king Charles III can trace his lineage back to Margaret Tudor (16 generations back).
    Henry VIII's lineage ended with his three children.
    History has a sense of irony alright.

    • @CaptainPikeachu
      @CaptainPikeachu Před 4 měsíci +4

      The present day King Charles III can also trace his lineage back to Mary Tudor, Margaret and Henry’s younger sister. Charles’ maternal grandmother Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the former Queen Mother, is a direct descendant to Mary Tudor and Charles Brandon’s daughter Frances. Therefore, the current House of Windsor can trace their lineage to BOTH of Henry’s sisters. Even more ironic to Henry no doubt.

    Dang! I know people talk about Henry VIII and the misogyny of the era, but really, ALL the women in the Tudor family were badass in their own way! Margaret Beaufort, Elizabeth Woodville, Elizabeth of York, Mary and Margaret (sisters of Henry VIII), all of Henry’s wives, Jane Grey, Mary I, Mary Queen of Scots (yes I do consider her a Tudor as she is a descendant from the Tudor line), and Elizabeth I were all exceptional, especially during a highly patriarchal society.

      It's pretty ironic that King Henry VIII's line is extinct because none of his children had any of their own because they either didn't survive long enough or in Elizabeth's case, chose not to because Henry warped her views of marriage due to how he treated his wives. But King Henry VII's line continues through his daughters (Henry VIII's) sisters.

    • @randommusicenthusiast2758
      @randommusicenthusiast2758 Před rokem +3

      @@Elly3981 I think henry viii's line never had gotten extinct. I do believe he had illegitimate children from different women that he didn't recognize during the time of his rule, and knowing him and his pursuit for having a male heir, those illegitimate children of his must be daughters

    • @Elly3981
      @Elly3981 Před rokem +3

      @@randommusicenthusiast2758 Maybe. All of Henry's known male children died young and none survived long enough to have children of their own. His known daughters were probably infertile too. I think it was bad genetics on Henry's part. If he does have any living descendants through his mistresses, we might be able to prove it with DNA testing if we could exhume his body.

      Plus they married her off to the King of Portugal in the show AND had her murder him when the real Mary was married to the King of France briefly before his death and Margaret to the King of Scotland.
      I doubt Mary ever loved the King of France due to her young age, their mass age difference, and their very brief time together. However, I think that Margaret and James IV did at the very least care for one another. Perhaps they truly did fall in love before his death, but if not I really think they at least cared and admired each other greatly. One story of theirs I love is how he personally went to her bedchamber to comfort her after a stable fire killed some of her favorite horses. He didn’t have to do that. Most kings wouldn’t. But he didn’t want to to be so upset and not have a shoulder to cry on.
