The drummer and guitarist do a great job in bringing Thomas Dolby's vision into a live setting. Their backing vocals are also very good. I know there are some sequencers running and samples going on here and it takes great skill to lock in with them as a live musician.
As much as I love his solo DJ abilities, you can’t beat a live band. It’s fun to see what the other musicians do with the parts, and I’m sure if relieves some stress off Thomas
oh man thank you for uploading this concert. the guitar into to 'i love you goodbye' was great as was hearing 'hyperactive', 'airhead' and 'she blinded me with science'.
Thank you for sharing, Ivan. This is a great recording by such a brilliant artist and wonderful group. What fun and lack of ego, and such a genuine and heartfelt rendition of Fieldwork in honor of the late Sakamoto Ryuichi (may he rest in peace). It certainly deserves far more than 275 views!
I’m glad you mentioned the ego thing, that’s one thing I’ve always loved about Thomas you don’t always see in other artists who are also one-man-shows like he is (like most of his solo sets). Egoless. And as much as I love his solo 2006 concert I think this one pops so much more with the band (you can really feel it with the rhythm guitar part in The Flat Earth and other moments). Funny enough I hadn’t heard of fieldwork before I got this concert on CD a while back, so this live version was the first for me. The studio one is great! It’s overall a great set, so glad he opened with Commercial Breakup. And I agree, it deserves way more views haha
@@HatTooFlat Sounds like you have some good taste in music. One thing is for sure: this group was enjoying making that music together, and we get to enjoy the benefits. Great you have it on CD so you could play it while on the road. I’m always looking to discover other artists and bands that play from the heart and stay grounded and humble and would appreciate any suggestions! Take care!
Fantastic---I've always wanted to see Dolby live, but the Exotic Erotic event in the city seemed too much of a freak show for me--I probably would feel that I wouldn't fit in, and that was my nearest venue---Man, what a show!---DM
Well, brave soldier Schweik, got caught - hold on. I bought a vinyl "Buick" in 1990 in Moscow from the shop of the Soviet record company "Melodiya" as an American off-sale import. 10 rubles! My student scholarship was 40, but I worked part-time, of course. I have never regretted the money spent: an exellent album: "Airhead, My Brain..., Budapest By Blimp".So what good stuff did you record after that? Regina Spektor's voice on your answering machine? Everyone should mind their own business, as for you - write the same good songs as "Budapest". All aliens live in Japan!
T.D. Is about the coolest dude ever . I’d love to see him live , even better meet him personally !
My favorite band of Mr. Dolby's conspirators... What a team, Dolby, Armstrong, Hector, and Seligman.. So sad Matt Seligman is no longer with us...

Everything that you made back in the day, I mean the studio versions on vinyl. That's absolutely the best. That's when you still had real hair Thomas.
13 mins in I'm blown away. 🎉
RIP Matthew Seligman x

@@jakerock_ you’re welcome! Surprised no one else posted it yet, over a decade later haha

Aliens ate my Buick is probably his best album, it’s just slightly better than The Flat Earth. Enjoy the recording!
Astronauts and Heretics has some great songs. "The Beauty of a Dream" and "I Love you Goodbye" being my favourites.
What lucky Japanese people
