  • In this video I show how to prepare your surface following the application of an Epifanes PP base. Then we mix and thin the Epifanes PU speedcoat varnish, take a look at spray gun settings and then spray application.
The Epifanes PU speedcoat varnish is a high gloss clear varnish designed for spray application only. It offers excellent UV and scratch resistance. It can be built very quickly with fast thinner flash off times and overcoating can be done as quickly as 1 hour between coats.
If you have any questions about the application or use of this product then drop a comment below the video and I will do my best to help answer your questions.

That's the kind of sponsored content I like. Very nice explanation of the procedure.

Glad to hear that. I’m trying to find a balance where I am actually able to earn a living out of making videos whilst still keeping them relevant and informative. I’m hoping these will do the trick as there are lots more in the pipeline.

Lovely results. I've been using automotive high build 2K clear with good results and half the price of Epifarnes, have you used automotive clear?

Thanks, I haven’t used an automotive clear. My concern would be that they are not developed for application to wood and therefore maybe don’t have as much elongation or are designed for such high build volumes (to fill the wood grain)? Two part clear varnishes are happy building 20 plus coats but automotive probably doesn’t ever have a need to go above 4 coats I’d guess? I don’t really know though that’s just my initial thoughts.

Could be an interesting experiment. The custom guys doing flake and candy certainly use multiple coats and an automotive environment can be every bit as harsh as above the waterline marine in terms of UV, vibration, heat, pollution, impact. Etc.@@DanLeeBoatbuilding

Yes for sure, maybe that's a subject for a future video to compare the two!

2k clears work very well over wood. It's an exceptionally flexible finish. The activator is unfortunately very nasty stuff for your health. I've had great results with both.

I am working on a classic boat and I have cherry wood interiors varnished that need to be re-done. Can I use epifanes products or I have to use different one?

Yes of course, they are ideal for that! If you don’t want to spray then their polyurethane clear is designed for brush or roller application with similar results 👍

I really enjoy your videos, but I please take a better care of your health, especially because you're doing it on professional basis. In the Safety Datasheet B they mention: In case of intensive or longer exposure use respiratory protective device that is independent of circulating air. I used their other 2K PU clearcoat, less aggressive and even it was quite a nasty stuff, it dissolves some plastic in no time. I was wearing fullmask +3M vapor filters and tyvek costume and I would use supplied air respirator if I did PU coating regularly.

I probably spray these products at most once a month right now which I wouldn’t consider intensive. That being said, an air fed mask is one of the next things on my list to purchase.
