Being an Aussie brought up on a plain diet but with an adventurous appetite I've been caught out a lot living in Asia. When I was in my early 20s I got roped into a down hill mountain biking trip with some mates while living in Hong Kong. The mountain was Doi Suthep next to the beautiful city of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Day one, big day riding had a shower before meeting the boys at the pub and took a few sips out of the shower. Half an hour later and I'm losing half my body weight and on the phone to my mates telling them to contact the embassy.

The "unsanitised" version far better than the Apollo (for Tv) version. The Spanish water system was not very clean, EEC regulations came in and made minimum standards of quality that each country had to adhere to. Hence the disappearance of gastro contamination from the water, and no more shits.😊
Back in early 70s it was just starting to get a big thing to travel international for regular folks... the air travel prices came down big time.. many travel companies were doing special package deals...2 weeks hotel inc flights...and breakfast and dinner...for around 2 weeks wages.... it became a huge thing . Everyone was taking advantage...but the change to british stomachs was a problem.
Water in spain was chrlorinated. Its a hot dry country..water was previous and a little scarce... after 24hr in spain you got mickys troubles....it was a huge joke at the time...but we still went in the hundreds of thousands..
Before Spain joined the EU in the 80’s, the country was poor due to the civil war having ended in 1939. The country’s infrastructure was terrible, particularly their water treatment plants. The majority of the water was undrinkable and contained lots of bacteria from sewage.
Nowadays, Spain has some of the most advanced water treatment plants in the world and the water in 99.99% of the country is perfectly safe to drink, although in some places it may have a strange taste or odour, due to chlorination and anti-bacterial treatments.
Hence, over the last 30 years, getting the shits in Spain has slowly died out.

You need to look at his series with Paul Whitehouse when they go fishing together to promote heart health, its gentle brilliant humour along with catching fish, what's not to love?

I went to Spain in the late 70s and when I turned the tap on the water was brown.

The shits in Spain was an actual thing (imagine going to Mexico 30 years ago, think about the tap water, drainage etc...)....and if you go to India right now I would recommend not eating the salad or having ice in your drinks. (Washing in a ditch probably not recommended anywhere tbh...)
I go to India 3 or 4 times a year with work and I know people say it is getting better...what they mean is if you stay in your hotel...Bottled water, no ice in drinks...no ditches etc...

I spent six months traveling India on a low budget when I was younger. Over that length of time there's no way to avoid such issues - it's just a question of how bad it will be. Amazing place to backpack around, though.
Sadly like many 'local accents' you'll find around Britain, historically in some places people's accents could change within miles of each other like 'scouse and manc', so just be aware Micky's East London is disappearing............sadly........."a bit tasty" is a phrase that's spread into conversation, one I use 'cause used appropriately it's funny! I'd guess you're using a few.

You should not have watched the Live at the Apollo version. Generally, you’re not allowed to swear during Live at the Apollo, so you get a watered down version of the routines, so try to avoid anything Live at the Apollo.
There´s this huge difference between Europeans and Americans. You simply can´t sit down and listen but have to comment all the time meaning you miss out on jokes.
Haha. It’s a reaction channel. We rarely talking during the jokes. I’d be surprised if even reactors from the UK from time to time don’t talk during the video they are watching
