    Having worked in commercial radio I can confirm that all of these are actually in the recommended DJ script to this day 😉😬

    You forgot the most infamous ones: "The track you can hear in the background is...", "Coming up is a....", "The track you just heard...", "Played before (current track artist) was...", and my favourite which I always catch myself saying is: "The/This next track...".........Don't forget: "I think you are gonna love this next one which is (a remix by (remixer name) of the popular track (title) which was originally released by (original artist))...."

    • @DJStarmistNO
      @DJStarmistNO Před 3 lety +1

      Also the phrases: What a tune!!!, What a great song there, by (artist)! etc etc...

    I solved the "having the last word" thing along time ago... I dont let the next DJ in the studio until I am done on the mic and the last songs of my shift are playing. He wants people to know whats coming up, drop me an email or a note on whats coming up, and Ill preview it, but if you have an ego about them using your time to promote their shift, just dont let them in. Easy peasy!

    Okay this is really great to come across. I've been doing radio for ten-ish years was never taught this kinda stuff. Of course i was told to watch for crutch phrases but outside of that it was "it's your show do what you want with it." I did know some of what you mentioned but there was somethimg you said, and maybe i misunderstood, but it was about one sided conversations. You mentioned engaging that one - on -one experience by asking the listener a question like "how are you" or "how was your weekend?" I was always taught that was a no go unless you were giving the audience the opportunity to call in amd answer your question because outside of that it breaks that connection by reminding the audience they aren't actually with you because they dont get to actually respond. So "how are you?" Should become "hope you're doing well" or "how was your weekend" becomes "hope you had a great weekend" i would like to know your thoughts a little more on that because i work at a station where the audience can only really engage with us via phone call and we dont solicit calls outaide of our request shows.

    Great video James! - a great one for folk to check over their previous shows/podcasts as a way of critiquing to improve.
    I've subconsciously been bringing back the old "Shabbah!" when introducing songs - to this day I've still no idea what it means but it sounds great 😂.
    Top man!

      Good call! I've read this and still no closer to actually understanding what it means!

    I hear too many commercial presenter say this, "we're gonna get you a bit of Shania Twain straight after this from Chic" (A BIT.... what like the second chorus?) that infuriates me. I was just using song title examples of course just to get the point across, but yeah that totally grinds my gears.

      True and some stations do only play a bit of a song, as they are running off and need to cut to news

    Hi James... I've worn numerous hats in the Radio biz for 40+ years... I'm not teaching Radio/Podcasting/Streaming, etc. at the college level in the U.S. So, I truly wanted the link to these 10+ things, not what the link provides. Can you post or email the link regarding these important items so I may use them to help train future D.J.'s? I'll be more than happy to quote you and play this and other videos throughout my class training time. Please and thank you, Tommy

    Thanks for all the tips. Would you recommend addressing the you as singular or the audience as a plural audience? In my mothertongue german this differences with pronouns. Thanks :)
