    Do i have to cut the red wire? And by connecting the black with the red can i just kickstart it or do i have to tape them together

    • @noweare1
      @noweare1 Před 2 lety +4

      You need to use a switch so you can short out the red & black to start up and also unshort the black/white & green wires at the same time. You need what is called a double pole double throw and connect the red and green to the two commons and black to the Normally Open contact where the red is connected to common. Connect the black/white to the normally closed contact of the common green wire. One pair opens (disconnects) from each other green/black&white and the other pair gets connected red & black when you start the bike by throwing the switch.

What did I possibly do wrong?? Did way with the key completely and all my switches on the handlebars, I got a flip switch to cut power on, a flip switch for my headlights & tail lights, then a push button to fire the scoot up, but like I said it won’t do anything but turn over with the push button 😭😭

      Do you have a switch for the CDI? It sounds to me like you don't have ignition (spark) which would be the CDI that is still grounding out. Make sure the CDI is NOT grounded when you are trying to get it to run.

    • @MileHighDreamz
      @MileHighDreamz  Před rokem

      No it will not start without spark. Allow me to rephrase the question. When you kick start the scooter and it runs fine... think of any switch or button you moved afterwards to start it electronically. Are any of those switches or wires affecting the CDI ground? If so, maybe you are grounding out the CDI while pushing or switching whatever you are moving.
      Option two. Is the battery very weak and the engine turning over slowly? Maybe try jump starting it or charging the battery.... everything could be fine but it just isn't turning over fast enough.

    • @MileHighDreamz
      @MileHighDreamz  Před 3 lety

      I would look up the manual for your specific ignition you purchased.
      Do you have the old ignition. Switch to reference? Maybe Google 3 wire motorcycle ignition switch and see what it does.
      If no luck, try using a multi meter measuring resistance/continuity to see what pins are connected/disconnected in each position. Write it down and then see which should connect to which. Give it shot with only three wires. If you think you are missing a ground, then run your own wire from the 4 pin ignition switch ground pin to the frame or battery... Then wire it up from there.

    • @MileHighDreamz
      @MileHighDreamz  Před 3 lety

      Im not liable to anything your mess up.... but if I had to guess. In the off position nothing is connected. In the on position, The 12v is connected to the accessory wire. In the start/crank position the 12v is connected to the ignition wire to turn the motor. Again, purely a guess.

    So I have a few wires coming off my ignition red and black which I have connected to a toggle switch to turn in and off power then I got two green which I found if I connect them together it’ll kick start just fine but the problem is my electric start won’t work, I do have one wire left which Is black with a white stripe, I believe my battery just keep draining I think but what should I do with this black wire with a white stripe? Cause kick starting it works the way I have it now but I want the electric start to work any ideas?

    • @MileHighDreamz
      @MileHighDreamz  Před 2 lety +1

      So what I understand is you have 4 wires. 1 red. 1 black. 2 green. 1 black/white. Watch from the 2 minute mark again when I talk about what is connect to what and when.
      If I had to guess, your red and black wire connect just as mine, and they power the turn signals, running light (even when it's off) etc. You have to disconnect these two when you are not using the scooter or else your battery will drain to zero.
      The black/white wire leads to your CDI (the thing that makes the spark for your spark plug) if you connect it to a ground wire (one of your green wires if I had to guess) then it will stop the CDI from working. So leave this disconnect if you want the motor to start. Ground it if you want to disable the bike.
      For the two green wires. I would suggest to follow them. One is probably ground, I'm not sure about the other. Try connecting them as well as the black and red wires and see if it starts with the electric starter.
      Look at the wires going to your starter button and electric motor and see what color they are and that will give you a clue

      I would suggest using a multimeter or test light to verify. With the harness unplugged by the ignition switch.... Test between battery positive and green wire to verify you have voltage/the light turns on. Test negative on the battery to the red wire to verify it is 12v/light turns on. Test negative on the battery to black wire on the plug and it should be 0v/no light. Now test between the red wire on the plug and the green wire on the plug, it should read 12v/light on. Make sure the fuse is replaced before doing all this or the red wire tests won't show anything. I don't see why your color code would be different than mine, but that will verify it. You may also have a short somewhere in the system causing the fuse to pop.
