You truly felt like you were entering a different world when walking into the Kongfrontation building. It’s amazing what they were able to build.

Man just looking at this really puts in the light of how physical sets out beats screen base rides wish this attraction stayed a bit longer.

a masterpiece. it breaks my heart knowing we lost this, Jaws and Back to the Future, even though Kongfrontation had a worthy replacement, I still miss that feeling of walking through this queue, the smell of stale bananas on Kong’s breath 😅 thanks for capturing this amazing attraction so well!

If I had a time machine I would go back in time and go on this ride, as I unfortunately never got a chance to experience it.

How did we have such amazing rides back then and now it’s all screens???? You would think 30 years later we would have better rides, not worse. The 90s really were amazing ❤️ I’m just glad I got to be there.

In fairness though, there were plenty of rides back in our day that were technically just screens; even here at Universal Studios. Yet they were still fun!
Like Back to the Future. Literally just a giant screen, but it still felt authentic when you were boarding an actual Delorean time machine (granted it was an "eight person, convertible Delorean", but it was still cool!
Then there was the Hanna Barbera ride; literally just a cartoon playing on a big screen while the seats you were on wobbled from side to side (I don't even remember them being synced to the movements on the screen) yet it was still fun. And while it's nothing to write home about by today's standards, that animation was unlike anything I'd seen before. Back then it truly felt like you only saw that kind of animation at a theme park, and it was a spectacle!
I dunno, maybe I'm a little biased because I experienced them as a little kid, but there really was a magic to them!

Way better back then vs having a video screen for a ride

Omg…who remembers the smell. Just walking through those first doors you got a waft, smelt like bakelite or something, I loved it!

wow, amazing how relatively empty the queue is compared to a decade later. I went on this ride in the summer of 2000 and we decided to make this our final ride for the day on either a Tuesday or a Wednesday and I think it took us about 10 minutes waiting in line to get onto a tram. It may have actually been longer, I definitely remember watching the tv bit a couple times while in the queue.

I wish Universal would’ve built a park of retro rides

I went on this ride in the summer of 1992, don't remember much except the scale of everything. Neat to revisit it and see all the details I have forgotten.

Classic universal was epic. New universal is still amazing but some attractions need to go - fast and furious for a start!

  • @elevatoralarmcoasterandarc1214

This video was filmed a year after the ride opened!
