Really classy to say to his father after the fight "thats whats it like to not grow up with a good father" talking about sean. Or was "this what happens when you have a good father"
He proved that he could push the pace for 5 rounds without dwindling. Big testament to his gas tank and he's also got a solid chin.
That was the biggest part of why he won the split decision: he literally was willing to die in there, from one moment to the next... it didn't matter whether Sean repeatedly stunted him with those controlled 90% power jabs or him hitting Sean. People like Leon and Izzy, they focus most of their energy on point fighting, so if their precision striking fails, against a certain fighter, then they have no other recourse. But, again, people like Sean and DDP, you literally have to put them down using both skills AND BRUTE FORCE... because they both will come at you til the last second... in their awkward says, with the physicality to back them up...
He does have a good chin, but that was proven by Darren Till’s elbows, not Sean Strickland’s pillow hands.

Close fight 50/50 but i thought DDP aggression and go-forward won it for him. You have to go take it from the champ. Never expected it, but Strickland humble in defeat respect to the man. Cant wait for rematch.
I would like Strickland to get a revenge rematch because the fight was too close. I don't like it when a fighter becomes champion by split decision. But I don't think Dana wants Sean for champion, he wants Drycus vs Izzy. Strickland is the people's CHAMP!

I'm a DDP fanboy but in my humble opinion if Sean did more than through a jab for 5 rounds it would have been his win. You just can't be that one- dimensional at this level, that was his undoing

DDP won 100%, He pushed the pace, he dictated the fight, had over 6 take downs.
Saying that either guy won 100% is disingenuous, it was a close fight which could have gone either way. I wouldn't complain if that 3rd judge said Strickland or DDP
@@jamesthompson9003 yes for sure, but Dricus pushed the pace the whole fight, he was pressing Sean and I think that is what ultimately got him the victory, I also agree with Dana saying that the belt needs to be taken off a champion, so yeah could of gone either way, but I think most people believe Dricus won that fight.

Well, let's not get carried away, 100% is a little far-fetched. It was close, but like the Weasel put it, he did land the more damaging strikes. Could you argue that chip damage does more damage over time? You can, but it really depends how many lights strikes = medium and hard strikes in terms of damage.

Sean lost the decision because of DDPs 7 or 8 takedowns and 2 mins of control, despite having more sig strikes, Khamzat will get a UD from his TDs and control, and thats coming from a Strickland fanboy. UFC judging is so braindead nowadays, DDP took him down and Sean got back up from every one of them, yet they only care that DDP got him down

Sean out landed Dricus by 43 total strikes and doubled the head shot total. Dricus scored 6 of 11 takedowns but didn't land a single grounded strike or submission attempt while having 2:08 minutes of control time. Both were showing damage. Would have felt better about a draw in this situation here then I did with Alexa vs Valentina 2. Even though there were no 10-8 rounds or points taken in the Sean vs Dricus fight
All those strikes were baby jabs ,all of ddp total strikes were power shots

That second round was in no way shape or form remotely close to being "clearly" DDPs round lol. That was by far the most toss-up round of the fight
round 3 was not clear. Both fighters did little in that round but I still give it to DDP
Intelligent and probably one of the MMA fighters there, I am also training at CIT, Dricus clearly won round 2,3,and 4 and actually 4 was very brutal, the professional commentators as well as Comier and others said it.

Let's all be honest. A draw is probably the true outcome here but i can see why ddp won. The td won him a close second round
Sean landed jabs but more cumulatively. DDP landed less but we can see he throws it with power. If strikes were kinda even, it depends on takedowns and forward pressure.
Both went 25 mins through a meat grinder and it sure shows on their faces.

Regardless of who actually won, I'm happy Dricus was given the win. Striklands style gets boring when he is pushed back or whenever he faces any high level fighter. He fights to safe and scared and only puts on good fights when everything goes perfect for him. He's a one trick pony and deserved to lose. He should have learned from the Candonier fight how to fix his style moving backwards because Dricus has been saying this entire camp he will move forward. Sean clearly had what it took to win but didn't want to get out of his comfort zone and give full effort on anything while Dricus worked harder and took more risks.
I agree with you, but I think in the final round Strickland finally started to impose his will and push forward and probably took the round.

Considering DDP'a sheer output/volume of punches thrown(energy expenditure) - if he learns to be a bit more restrained and save the power punches for when it is needed(it will help him, especially in the 5th round where Sean seemed to catch a 2nd wind), also if he goes to train with some Dagestani's to improve his ground game and learn to keep opponents on the ground like Khabib - he is a future Hall of Famer candidate, if he can tweak his game plan a bit he can be legendary. Very impressive that he mixed strikes to all parts of the body (including punches and kicks) as well as power takedowns - he has a full arsenal of MMA weapons at his disposal - he can and will get much much better!!

Sean has some bruising, yeah, but the majority was from that one cut that bled an unreal amount. We can argue back and forth between robberies and who should have won, but I don't know how anyone can argue a clear cut case as DDP got his face smashed from Sean, while Seans face looks better than after some of his sparring

Great close fight and who won will be debated endlessly. I thought Strickland since he hit dricus with many more strikes. It isn’t clear how the takedowns which were never held down influenced the judges. Get this rematch not Izzy doing his tap dancing. These are the real war boys.
