You would realize that if the slightest portion of the balloon (in this case, a piece) would still trigger the death effect.

Birch is similar to oak in the way that it’s tree is normally structured, making it easy to mine at any point in the game. Not only that, but oak trees have a chance to spawn a larger tree upon growing up, concealing multiple logs inbetween leaves, preventing leaf decay which allows you to grow another sapling in the same position, and just being an overall eyesore. Birch completely eliminates this issue due to it only being able to grow into the small trees, allowing easy wood collection and a good looking place to call home.
oh yeah and imo oak and birch look equally as good.
