"...grown to about that big.." About how big, Cory?
The size of that one in the video when he said that would be my guess pmsl 🤦♂️
@@stonesaquatichomes6825 considering he said he'd grown one out himself and he's big into monster fish, I doubt he was keeping a ghost knife in a 20 gallon at his store (that's B roll from his store)
They only grow to about 12-18" in captivity, even in the wild 20" ones are rare , 18" is more common.
I've had mine going on 10 years now. Still healty and strong.
So funny, I literally just told my boyfriend that if we could ever get a large tank this one of the fish I’d want! I just think they’re so cool looking! And then here’s the co op care video lol. One day... one day...
There are a knife fish that are smaller. But none are as cool looking as the ghost.
To me this fish is a puppy, if he likes you he will come out and look at you and even play with you and sleep on your hand if they fancy. Pretty smart fish, if not the smartest fish in the hobby.
I remember being a little kid and going into the pet store and looking at the fish was always my favorite part of the week. The knifefish was the first fish that ever caught my interest and made me want to keep fish but I never knew what they were called until just now. Thank you for this. When I get a house big enough, I'm going to look into getting one of these. I just think they're so cool.
Just started to raise one was really looking for a good care guide... I’m so glad this came out today !!! Couldn’t have been better timing
Merry Christmas, Cory and Dorkula, your sweet pups and wet pets!
You always have that perfect timing. This is a dream fish and I've wanted one for over 5 years. I'm getting one very soon, for the 145 gallon I'm getting.
Love the care guides. Another fish that I would love to see a care guide/species spotlight for is the freshwater archerfish. There is very little online about archers. Loved when you had them in the 800
We were given our BGK lil over a year ago. Shes pushing 14 15 inches now adored and spoiled. Ty for makn the vid.
Great run down on this fish!! How interesting and I don't know if I've got the skills to keep one or not but it's something I definitely would love to consider! One of my dream fish for sure! Thanks Cory for all the information you provide! I hope you and your family are having a happy holidays!!🙏😍🌿🐟🎄🌿💚
Merry christmas cory and the co-op family. Thanks for all you do.
I’ve allways wanted to get a black ghost, thanks for the vids Cory, and the amazing store products.
Great care tips Cory. In my freshwater days I’ve had a couple of them that got to a pretty decent size. 😊
I love how my ghost knife LOVES his heavily planted tank stocked with plants from aquarium coops site. And loves to pink on his tank mates Always front and center day and night and he’s very fun to watch and enjoy!
Thanks for all of the great content Cory!
Great video as always! Thanks cory! Merry christmas and happy new year to you and your family
definitely one of my favourite fish, i sold mine this year bc i went to Uni. He was about 13-14 inches, absolutely massive
Neat fish, may try it out one day. Glad I saw this video first. Got some good info and what to be prepared for.
Love my ghost. Thanks for the info Cory...
Merry Christmas, Cory and all the fish nerms out there!
Thanks for all the advice. Just got some more stuff from your store. Waiting on the tiger lotus and others to come back in stock 👍
Just got one and he is awesome! This video really helped round out my questions!
Thanks for the great content Cory!
thank you so much my little brother brought home one last night its very small the smallest ive ever seen so hes in a 2 gallon aquarium for now will up grade once i know hes healthy and eating
Love the fact that you know show the temp in Celsius as well now for all the non US folk!!!
I've always liked to pull up a chair and watch these guys.
🤶Happy Holidays🎅
Very timely video for me. Thanks!
This was my first ever fish I actually picked out. ( mom and grandfather helped, owned a pet store) and I miss it dearly. I kept him with a Dino bichir they got along great! I look forward to getting a large tank and get one again.
We had my knife Trained to follow my finger just before meal times to help check him for problems. Trained to eat from my fingers as well.
I love these fish!
Thanks for your knowledge! Have a good one
Great video, and yes, these guys do get big folks, so get a tank accordingly!
Just got one of these a couple weeks ago! Absolutely love them
I just ordered the Co-Op mug. I’m excited lol.
Hey Cory
Please keep the content coming
Please , we're dying for it 😭😂
Glad to see the new channel, new sub here btw✅❤
I kept Ghosts in the '70's. Glad to see that they have finally solved the breeding problem. Back then no one had any idea how to breed them, or even sex them.
Always one of my favorite fish.... definitely a bucket list for me
Nice spotlight on this unique fish!
Great video. Do more about fish like this.
Such a cool fish just getting into the hobby trying to set up a planted tank.
Thank you great video✌🏼👍🏼
I had a brown 'ghost knife'. Looked the same but just brown. Even though I knew it couldn't see very well if at all, it seemed to know when I went by the tank and would come to the surface and if I put my hand in it liked to rub against me. Other people could walk by and it wouldn't react. They seem quite smart and the way they swim is very interesting.
They look like a fun fish. Maybe one day. Thank you 😊 Take care
I got a black ghost 5 years ago, he/she is only 9" I think having to heat treat ick stunted the growth. Still incredible fish. He knows when I'm close to his glass side of his tunnels
Saw a tru of knife fish on display at my bigger lfs. Had never seen them in real life before but instantly recognized them as those little “knifes”. Would love to have one one day.
I bought mine as a baby about 4 years ago when I used to work at a pet store. The second I saw it eating flake food I knew I had to bring it home! Now he's about a foot long and on a steady diet of medium to large cichlid pellets, in my 80 gallon bowfront with a large (super calm) 14 year old mayan cichlid, a syno cat, and some glofish tetras 😂
Thanks for putting Celsius on the screen
just got my first gk and I'm in ❤ small and friendly so far🎉 and yes i want more now!
Thanks, I have one
Getting a big tank soon hopefully
My brother just called me from Ohio and told me to look up a video of a clown knife fish to see how cool it swims. I found this video and can see what he is talking about from Florida. Awesome looking fish! I really like that pleco you have too!
Cool fish,I see another tank in my future!
Had mine for a month now in a community tank with a common pleco that’s about 7 inches now and 5 Corys he’s doing amazing then pleco and the Cory’s and him all get along I’ve sat there and observed them he is very active day and night i feed him blood warms and I sometimes I hear that smacking noise which is him eating the snails!!! Haha they love snails too!!!
great info
Thank you 👍🏼
Such a nice looking fish
Merry Christmas to everyone at the Coop!
Another tip I have found is don’t keep them with long finned fish. They kinda go into a feeding frenzy at feed time and may mistakenly bite the fins of some fish. Mine would often do this to my Angels, so I had to move him to a another tank.
ah man this topic was my most viewed video topic on my page lol guess i’ll drop down a few pegs on the first search results now 😂
Cool fish!
Thanks Cory
Thank you! Day one with my little buddy in my 55gal, will definitely be getting a 75 gallon (to be my 8th crystal-clear beautiful tank thanks to you!). I was worried about him because he was spazzing out when i put him in and looked like was dying at the botton just after 5 minutes in... Turned off the lights, within a few minutes he was up and exploring. It's been 5 hours now and he is up and about exploring all over the place. I reeeeeally hope he makes it to tomorrow, if he does, he should be good!
They are fun. Mine used to love being hand fed
I liked that you put the temperature in C°
Had a knife fish when I first started fish keeping around 15 years ago. Every morning I would check the tank before heading to uni and started to notice one by one each of my cardinal tetras were loosing their eyes. I invested in a red light and recorder the tank overnight. The knife fish came out straight after lights out and hunted for the little fish eyes. When the fish died of stress, he then ate the fins etc. Vicious fish in my experience
Nice!
Oof is this the video with a care package if so I would love one I just bought 2 apisto caves, sponge filter and xtreme krill food from you guys so another Christmas present would be cool
I'm such a big fan of anything cory is in! I could careless about the fish but since cory is talking about it I'm there. Lol anything dean or cory has to do with I'm there..
can 7 inches black ghost knife fish be combined with 9 inches arowana inside an aquarium tank?
One of my favorite fish ❤️
Great oddball
Mine is pretty large now and it loves the Hikari carnivore sinking pellets. As well as Tetra bits.
Happy Christmas Day!!
Cory talks fast...
But, he said a Very important thing for newer and experienced fish keepers alike.
When you have more than one negative factor happening in your tank for a particular fish, it will become more prone to disease or illness. Temperature, PH, hardness, stress from other fish or a lack of feeling safe... Not enough food or poor diet compared to the needs of the fish...
Monitor the behaviors of your fish..
Test your water. Have an easy to read thermometer, that you can see every time you feed your aquarium.
And, don't be afraid to ask questions, if any of your fish are acting like something may be wrong. Cheers!
Had this fish as a kid. It was the first fish my father let me choose on my own. Awesome! 😎
@@mrlazli it ended up dying eventually lol but they do live a long time and grow to be about 8-10 inches if you feed it well. Maybe bigger idk all fish are different some become monsters im sure this one has the potential.
Got a baby ghost knife put him in a starter 30 gallon but then realized after 2 years he had stunted growth and only grew to a max of 5 inches still got the buddy.
Great video, I have one BGK and I love seeing him in my 125g aquarium. My question is, what pleco is in 6;41 of the video? He is really beautiful. Again, thanks for the video
Tank mates I’ve had luck with are uaru, acara, discus, fire mouth, Denison barbs, boasmani rainbows, severum, geophagus, my original rainbow wolf fish, rainbow sharks, flag tail prochilodus, bichir, people say rays and arowana but haven’t personally tried
My favorite fish!
even tho this video is two years old. it still helps a lot
Thx
I would love one but they can get big. Thanks Coopy.
Loving the beard
Thanks for putting in degrees Celsius!
Cory you look great with some scruff
My two always come out, they are sooo beautiful, in about to get a 6x2 tank and get a elephant nose
Dream fish!
I know this is a little bit old but ghost knives and elephantnose et al, do not have sonar
They have active electrolocation and they do not disrupt each other when they are in proximity due to what is known as an jamming avoidance response, where one fish will lower the frequency of its field and the other will raise it, though I am not sure that this works across different species (ie an elephantnose and a ghost knife)
One of my favorite fish I want one
Very informational, thank you Cory
my favorite fish
African brown knifes are good too
It's funny cuz what stops me from getting one is its activity habits lol since it is nocturnal, i would feed it at night, so im thinking if i will b able to do that with working 2 jobs lol
For any aquarium, and especially fish like this, it's a good idea to have an electrical grounding probe.
I was just thinking how you said you’ve kept these, then you put a video out on them haha. Didn’t you keep one with ladybird at one point?
Aw yea!!
Yeah, I definitely messed up when I purchased two of these little fellas. I did exactly what you said we shouldn't do. I bought two and, of course they fought. I also did the other thing that you said not to do and put them in with jaguar and convict cichlids and that proved to be fatal for both of them, so yeah don't do that. They might all be from South/Central America but they definitely aren't compatible.
My wife has been wanting one of them.
Thank you Corey. I have been thinking about a ghost knife for a while. Now after seeing that I will wait till I am able to get my 40 gallon going before i get one
Just bought 2 of them
Dream fish besides SA lungfish and Freshwater Dolphin fish.
