"That was the hydroplaning battle we just showed you." lol they did an awsome job in the rain with all that hp. My friend had a Toyota Prias and he stilled hydroplanned into a tree going 40.
For your information: when driving in snow or heavy rain, the primary preference is to use tires with water-evacuating tread. If it isn't an option, then the backup is to continue using semi-slick tires, but are thinner than usual. Thinner tires mean the vehicle's weight is pressed against the road more effectively--especially useful in snow and for winter tires. For example: a 5kg box with wide wood legs versus the same 5kg box with needle-sharp legs.
If you ever drove any of these cars in the rain, you would understand. I own a '07 STi... at the time of my decision between an Evo 9 SE and the STi, I had the opportunity to drive both in rain. At 70mph, both cars would hydroplane (due to both cars having tires for more dry conditions). One thing I noticed was that the STi stayed calm and the rear was following the front perfectly, even at 110mph... evo made it to about 85mph before the rear started wandering, i wouldn't push it any further.
Depends on the system. In the rain brakes WILL lock a wheel with enough pressure - Being as this is a track thrash, it's going to happen! You could tune for rain, but it would not work effectively in the dry [Wheel could stay locked]. Even modern ABS and TC can't physically effect the lack of friction in the rain, which is why they are rarely any help unless its BONE dry. The basic fact is that there is no grip, therefore the car is essentially in free motion - no matter what the electronics do!
hahaha i love this XD there all awesome all u had to add to make this perfect was a R34 skyline and maybe a 350Z if u want ... ive always wanted to see this match up ^_^
I think the RX-7 would have won if there was not so much water on the track. Like the guy said, Supra's weight helped it to keep traction. All of those cars were amazing if you ask me. Listen to the turbos. They are orgasmic. XD
in a best motoring dvd i got with an issue of sport compact car i think it was , it show'd the boss evo in a touge monster battle between some top tuners and it also show'd problems with the ABS that day as well
I was expecting the EVO to win this race! I was very surprised that the Supra won! Especially surprised because I thought the EVO would be better for traction effort. Either way, the EVO would be my option over all of the cars if I was to purchase one.
What a pity about the rain. Would have been great in the dry. I have an FD RX7, they're like over-powered go carts, stiff ride, ferocious around corners. Great brakes because of the light weight I supoose. But I'm biased. 8^)
Nobody's explanation is right. Weight isn't an advantage in any racing application. The weight only helps resist hydroplaning on the straight. It doesn't grant the JZA80 magic traction. The purpose of the race was to emphasize the importance of using street radials since a lot of boyracers made a habit of rolling on semi-slick sport-compound tires (Advan A048, Potenza RE55S, etc.) for cheap dry grip and disregard the ultimate rule of driving: safety. I know this because I own this DVD.
Holy crap that weather was horrible for racing. Even Tsuchiya in the RX7 was struggling like mad to even keep it in control. Same goes for the guys in the Evo and Supra.
ahahaha, that was the funniest race ever, the noises those guys make, laughing the whole time, lol that one guy, sayin insane insane insane insane insane in japanese the whole time! lol
The driver of the supra had a different style of driving then the evo guy. I personally love the rx7, but i do have to say it would be really hard for an rx7 in rain cuz of its light weight.
Can anyone tell me what show this is from? I absolutely love it! Amazing that I can watch their pedal work to see how they shift gears, brake, and use different levels of acceleration.
In the wet you effectively have NO brakes when a wheel loses traction AND ABS kicks in. The wheels "locks" instantly due to poor traction, ABS takes the brakes off to "regain" control. Unless the wheel digs in, the ABS leaves the brakes OFF
yea i totally agree with the little equation u got there. lol. and the fd is meant to hav good control cuz its so close to the ground. you could b rite. i was just guessin.
When I first saw this video years ago, I believed that they Evo was going to win due to it's AWD. Obviously in a race like this, power does not matter, the driver is what mattered. If the Supra driver drove the Evo, I'm sure he would have won. He probably drove extra carefully cause he owned his car!
How Tsuchiya thought the handbrake would help him slow for that corner I'll never know. In them conditions the handbrake would have had less effect than the brakes..
this is exactly why the supra is heavy, toyota knew that with a 2jz powerhouse and only RWD to get any traction theyd need weight, so some people should stop complaining the supra is a heavy car... it needs to be lol XD
Heavier cars will have better traction in slippery conditions. I've realized how bad traction can be in a light car first hand. I tried driving an rsx-s with a stripped interior in the snow a few days ago, and it was the worst driving experience of my life.
proof that the supra isnt over-rated (neither under-rated) the car won, no excuses ! both of the others washed out and one was an AWD ! the thing that tripped me out the most was that the supra started drifting before the video ended ! he had every right- lol
Check out the amazing car handling and driver skills at 5:20. Supra drifts around a slipery turn, while under power. Never went off road, not even once. Supra rules.
That is not because of the car problem, its because the driver is drving too fast already in the corner so the EVO fly out,but now they did not make mistake in EVO anymore the EVO always get wins in the wet battle but in the street too.
I completely agree with you except for one thing. When you said "Weight isn't an advantage in any racing application", that's not entirely true is it? On certain type's of courses (such as a downhill run for example), different weight distributions on FF, FR and AWD have different advantages and disadvantages. If an FF and an FR raced on a downhill, the weight distribution on an FF would give it a slight advantage over the FR at the entries of corners. Am I right or am I way off here?
hey does anyone know where i can get more videos like this? I know theres another video and one of the drivers looks fimiliar and the commentator is the same guy. Is there more videos??
wow im amazed that the Supra is on the lead the whole time. Its RWD and very very heavy ! And bit disappointed about the Evo... its got AWD ! I expected that the Evo is going to win.
This is a weird result. The most powerful, RWD car wins, not the AWD car with less power. I guess it was mostly breaking from high speed that was difficult.
That was nail biting the whole way. I'm glade they stopped the race. I would hate to see these beauties trashed. Oh, and yes. The girl at the end was hot.
1 question: what does teh FD stand for or the FC ? i know that FC is an earlyer rx7 model and the FD is an rx7 in this clip... but what does thouse latters stand for? o.O
If you look close you can see that the tail is already out before the hand brake is applied but grips up for a second meaning that the car could be thrown in the direction of the wall. Better to try and wash off some speed in a bad situation and if you are heading for wet water logged grass I think he may have chosen the lessor of 2 evils. Either that or he was trying to get the tail around in order to get better line out of the corner. When it happens this fast in rain you can't tell on the vid
Evo the best =D but i like the Rx7 and Supra too
damn wouldve been awesome in the dry, or with some out of car shots with them getting sideways but still gotta love them, they are hilarious
"That was the hydroplaning battle we just showed you." lol they did an awsome job in the rain with all that hp. My friend had a Toyota Prias and he stilled hydroplanned into a tree going 40.

tsuchiya just has a little giggle when he slides out I LOVE IT
nailbiting!
great vid.
I love these guys. They always keep me laughing :-D
the rain drift looked coooooooooool
i love how Tsuchiya in the end says "hey, you changed your outfit!"
i love how the supra in the end just starts drifting :D
If you ever drove any of these cars in the rain, you would understand. I own a '07 STi... at the time of my decision between an Evo 9 SE and the STi, I had the opportunity to drive both in rain. Holy crap that was awesome, can't wait to get my supra now :D
Hey man, what show is this clip taken from? Sounds interesting AND it's in English. +1 For the awesome vid.
"WAIYOO!!" (This is scary!) 2:13... lmfao best part
hahaha i love this XD there all awesome all u had to add to make this perfect was a R34 skyline and maybe a 350Z if u want ... ive always wanted to see this match up ^_^
haha the guy driving the rx-7 sounds so funny when the car breaks loose
Respect for guys who drive in those conditions.
"insane insane insane "
haha that part was funny
nice video, thanks.
I'm not an import guy, but even I have to admit that was an epic run!
Classy drivers too.
5 stars!
awesum race :P
Ah I see. Thanks for clearing that up!
The Supra's weight actually helps out in the wet like this, being as it would actually be more stable than either of the other cars :)
man theese guys are fun
and good !
if i could reset my life, i would become a racer @ japan lols.
@weedfreshness hell yeah i want one XD what mods does it have on it?
holy crap this video had me on the edge of my seat lol
I think the RX-7 would have won if there was not so much water on the track. Like the guy said, Supra's weight helped it to keep traction. All of those cars were amazing if you ask me. Listen to the turbos. They are orgasmic. XD

The Rx7 Could have one hands down. Weather conditions was the only setback for that beast.
always loved the Supra/RX7, and have respect for the Lancer Evo. all 3 of my favorite cars. (:
I was expecting the EVO to win this race! I was very surprised that the Supra won! Especially surprised because I thought the EVO would be better for traction effort. Either way, the EVO would be my option over all of the cars if I was to purchase one.
awesome

AWD has significant grip compared to RWD cars. so i expected it to win... but fair play to K Tsuchiya.. amazing control
that was pretty funny.
I think the Evo had the worst tires of the three cars, and the heavier front end, due to the AWD, killed it.
ahahaha, that was the funniest race ever, the noises those guys make, laughing the whole time, lol
that one guy, sayin insane insane insane insane insane in japanese the whole time! lol
im really suprised the evo was handling worse then the other two. I expected it to dominate! otherwise great video...I love the guys driving
NICE
i love how when he spins he pulls the handbrake up lol
i love the rx7,it's my fav. car , but i wish it had more engine reliability, its like a ticking time bomb!
man............i plan to buy one these cars stock and do my own project on them.
The driver of the supra had a different style of driving then the evo guy. I personally love the rx7, but i do have to say it would be really hard for an rx7 in rain cuz of its light weight.

Amazing that I can watch their pedal work to see how they shift gears, brake, and use different levels of acceleration.
lol Tsuchiya "you changed your outfit"
true but id still choose an rx7 if i had the chance =D its not just the rotary its just the entire look of the rx7 i love it =D
@TheAudiTTfan He's actually saying "Muri" over and over again. In this situation, it literally does mean; insane or absurd! lol
Great video!
In the wet you effectively have NO brakes when a wheel loses traction AND ABS kicks in. The wheels "locks" instantly due to poor traction, ABS takes the brakes off to "regain" control. Unless the wheel digs in, the ABS leaves the brakes OFF
I'm supried the AWD didn't help that was a very entertainin race
yea i totally agree with the little equation u got there. lol. and the fd is meant to hav good control cuz its so close to the ground. you could b rite. i was just guessin.

INSANE!!!!!!!

600 horses to the rear wheels in the rain with sport tires. Mmmm doesn't that just sound fun.
this is exactly why the supra is heavy, toyota knew that with a 2jz powerhouse and only RWD to get any traction theyd need weight, so some people should stop complaining the supra is a heavy car... it needs to be lol XD
@VacantDreams do you have any idea of where i can buy it? Website?
Heavier cars will have better traction in slippery conditions. I've realized how bad traction can be in a light car first hand. I tried driving an rsx-s with a stripped interior in the snow a few days ago, and it was the worst driving experience of my life.
3:38 The whistles go.... whoo whoo!
That race would of been the shit in dry weather..... that chinese lady was nice too
Isn't it a little ironic how they are complaining about sliding?
"Woody woody woody woody" Subtitle: insane insane insane lol!!!!!!
good race, well if you can call it a race =P love the way all 3 cars looked... pure import beauty....
+Supra ftw =P
proof that the supra isnt over-rated (neither under-rated) the car won, no excuses ! both of the others washed out and one was an AWD ! the thing that tripped me out the most was that the supra started drifting before the video ended !
he had every right- lol

this 3 cars are the best cars japan ever made. Japan should start making new supras and rx-7
They clearly said the ABS was having trouble, you could see the second he tried to brake when he crash the car just locked up.
These guys are some pilots!
That is not because of the car problem, its because the driver is drving too fast already in the corner so the EVO fly out,but now they did not make mistake in EVO anymore the EVO always get wins in the wet battle but in the street too.

Am I right or am I way off here?
insane insane insane
i agree. tsuchiya clearly tells you not to drive with performance tires during rain lolol
hey does anyone know where i can get more videos like this? I know theres another video and one of the drivers looks fimiliar and the commentator is the same guy. Is there more videos??
wow im amazed that the Supra is on the lead the whole time.
Its RWD and very very heavy !
And bit disappointed about the Evo... its got AWD !
I expected that the Evo is going to win.
@ferrari967csl how much is AWD going to help you while your braking?
@salakutaful
That's Anti-lock Braking System.... ironically in this case.
These drivers fucking rule. laughing while they are racing. haha. I could not stop laughing. lmfao!
FR stands for (Front engine Rear wheel drive, FF means (front engine, front wheel drive, MR is mid engine rear wheel drive, (the NSX is MR).
Dori-Dori has got big kahoonies
So, it looks like true that any ABS can't be better than driver's perfectly trained left foot.
You may consider that he is a racing driver, and racing a Toyota ;-)
if it was a dry track it would be such a close race. all of these cars were modified for track racing
@salakutaful ABS means Anti Lock Breaking System
This is a weird result. The most powerful, RWD car wins, not the AWD car with less power. I guess it was mostly breaking from high speed that was difficult.
thank god someone has some common sense, i couldn't agree with you more, drifting is conducive for high speed track racing,
It did, it was hydroplaning though. AWD doesn't help with hydroplaning haha. And also the ABS system was messing up.
wow the guy in the supra did a good drifting at the end of the race regardless the rain !! lol
too bad for Evo (4WD) and RX-7
i want to know what engine that supra had in it it sounds so sick XD
Connor Gardner its a 2jz engine. You can have that sound on any car
That was nail biting the whole way. I'm glade they stopped the race. I would hate to see these beauties trashed.
Oh, and yes. The girl at the end was hot.
Yay! DK drives the Rx7! I can't belive anyone but him could win.. Haven't watched it yet tho..
which supra u have? i have the anniversary edition.320bhp stock!
Wow, good thing these guys have drift experience or that would have been over way earlier...
0:45 made my day
Didn't expect the FR's to out do the AWD -.-
heavy rain and semi-slick tyres makes good racing haha
