📝 Have you written a book? My life goal is to be a published author and make a living from writing and I am using this year to gain experience, build up a portfolio and work on a book with my agent. I have just finished the final draft of that book, as you can see in this video. I did self-publish a book about bullying when I was seventeen which is available on Amazon (amzn.to/3mdJKLm), but I'm slightly embarrassed by it now!

I don't have merch in the traditional sense (I can't imagine selling something with my face or name on haha!), but I do have a stationery company where I sell planners for students. What I love about your vlogs recently is how I noticed an evolution from mainly telling your everyday life to making your videos into art. I love it so much how you place small quotes from books in the voice overs and I really love your reflections on topics like the purpose of life (and how poetic you tell your reflections). This is an achievement that I can only dream of for myself, and which I have been itching to see you accomplish for months.
Do not let yourself be deterred by the excess of negative comments in the comment section of that video. As you have said yourself, Government influence can be very difficult to detect, and it is not impossible that many of these criticisms come from bots, with no real person or face behind them (please forgive my own anonymity in this regard).
I wish you the best of luck for the rest of your studies, and hope to see you regale us with your insights at the Oxford Union, once more in the near future!

@@maneskinnnnn7190 Very true. I was thinking about it from the perspective of a STEM PhD (which took over my life and took away from a lot of my hobbies during that period of my life). You’re right though, creative writing and a PhD in the arts go much more hand and hand and would probably help each other in the long run.

you have to be able to do some critical thinking as a PhD. Not Ruby's cup of tea
Ruby is too immature to do something like a PhD. Doing a PhD requires you to take criticism without resorting to lame excuses. Academia can be very tough and toxic and you really have to push through years of incredible hard work and harsh feedback. She cannot run to her Mommy and cry after every supervision in which her supervisor told her that she misuses every 6th word that she found in the dictionary.

What a delightfully charming pair, I am not at all surprised that someone bought you afternoon tea. People like to do things that the receiver will appreciate and your appreciation is written all over your faces. There was a music recital at the Exchange Theatre in Manchester a few years back. Outside was a Cheetham's School of Music student busking hoping to raise the £20 admission fee. A complete stranger, I was happy to buy her a ticket, just to see her face light up, five minutes before the start, and still £15 short. I hope that one day she will pass it on to some other person in need.

This video was such a brilliant sunspot at the end of a busy week! I'm currently in my first semester of Uni, and I have far less free time than I originally thought. However, your videos always inspire me, Ruby! I’m currently reading a book called “Women’s Labour and the History of the Book in Early Modern England” edited by Valerie Wayne and I’m learning so much about the women involved in making early printed books (collecting and sorting rags for paper, printing, publishing, selling, and more) and I just love hearing about all the contributions they have made. I really like the romanticism and the classic way of letter writing in books, I like books such as Count of Monte Christo and the letters written by Lucy in Dracula, I just really admire how people used to write letters in the past. Do you have any book recommendations that have this style of writing?

If you haven't already read it, I thoroughly recommend Daniel Hahn's "Catching Fire: A Translation Diary". It's literally a diary written alongside translating a book. It's a fascinating glimpse into the art of translation and the choices that must be made along the way.
I've been reading more this year and I read a book recently that I kept thinking you could like/it reminded me of you. It is called After Story and it is about a mother and a daughter traveling around London visiting literary places
