Thanks for the info, I live on the Kona coast and I freedive (I don't spearfish) nearly every day and I also teach freediving. It is really great to see your vids that show people just what is possible for swimmers. Some people seem to respond very well and I have had the pleasure of teaching a number of people how to safely dive very deeply... it is so satisfying to see them expand their horizons.....and like I said before, the cameraman is a fine diver himself....
very impressive! as a cameraman myself i was more impressed with the cameramans ability to capture the complete dive very smoothly... regardless obviously both divers have some incredible skill!!! thanks for sharing
I've been watching this video for 3 years now, ever since I could only do 7 meters. I've hit just over 35m now but I was no where as smooth as Stephen Misfud. This is a truly impressive work of art and hats off for the cameraman too..
I was at the 1998 World Freediving Cup with the American team in Sardinia, Italy. The best static apnea result was between 6- 7 min. nowhere near this guy's record of 11:35. Notice how he doesn't make quick movements, very smooth, and the long fins to get back up from depth. It's an art form. I saw Pipin work 120 feet and Manny Puig, who I photographed, he was pretty good too. If you do this, make sure you have a spotter than knows how to deal with shallow water blackout. Great Video BTW.
dear all, in this beautifull take... the cameraman is in free dive its fred buyle, world class freediver who has been working with me for years. in the other videos of stephane you can see some catches of dog tooth tunas. all camera shots are in freediving. mostly done by me but i cant go under 100 ft in free diving holding a big camera, so beyong 100ft its mr buyle who did the best shots of the film coming up soon...
hello dear free divers, stephane used C4 fins on this video. but since one year he has developed his own design for carbon fins, for the brand IMERSION, its the result of many years of try out, practice and spearfishing. So from now on, he will be using STEPHANE MIFSUD fins @ imersion. cheers to all. jf
I know this is an old post, but I thought I should add that the non-deco limit on a 36m dive with air is 15 minutes bottom time. So the videographer could, in fact, have been a SCUBA diver (even though he wasn't). Of course, a freediver is free to return to the surface at his own pace, while the air diver would certainly have to observe and limit his ascent rate to approx. 50ft (15m) a minute (conservatively, without regard for the 5m 'safety stop' as well which he wouldn't really need to do).
start to clear your ears at the surface, and keep clearing till you get to the bottom,, the more clears, the more comfortable your ears..(when i dive like 50-60 feet i clear like 10 times...)
Am fascinated by the diving, of course... by both of you!!! Meanwhile, what camera set-up allowed such perfect exposure and White Balance, back in those days???? Cheers!💦🐟🍻😊
this was shot on breath hold by another great free diver - photographer named fred Buyle, check his insta its insane... we were off the French Provence Coast, Notice the security free divers on the surface, shot on Gates housing and a old school Sony PD150... all manual set up... thank's for your comments ;-)
i think it has alot to do with the fishes familiarity to the scube divers, in commonly dived areas fish will be more used to the noises form the scuba gear
every time i watch this video i hold my breath to see if i can at least hold it for the same amount of time he does (of course outside of the water is like 100x easier) and today i was actually able to do it.... ive watched this video over 20 time though
some persons like MIFSUD does not have to equalize, used of your jaws to open your ear drum canal, so the air goes freely. until 70meters when the canal bloks because of presure, so he got to equalize then
its belgium photographer and world class freediver FRED BUYLE who freedive and hold the GATES (camera), he did a terific job, earlier this same day FRED followed MIFSUD on a 60 meters (200ft) dive, i will post this one sequence footage one day...
How long is not very long? Good physical condition is essential! Start exercising deep breaths focusing on using your lungs to full extent. Try to pack air into your lungs. After a full inhalation, press air into your lungs using your mouth. This puts stress on the diaphragm, and will be unpleasant at first, but it is essential to breath holding. Do this at first on your sofa - not in open water. Do not hyperventilate heavily in open water - less you want to drown.
@kennycruz8 no.... :-) like stephane... freedive... camera work... using a gates housing no lights, with for this shoot a PD150 its the only way to follow him all day....
@maxmc89 Not correct. Its all an equation. Nitrogen saturation raises with time spent at depth. Even free divers can get Decompression Sickness. I believe Euro comps were lowered from 6hours to 5 a few years ago due to too many high end divers getting DCS from being at depth too long. That said, you would have to be a pro to get DCS freediving.
@crankatorium Thanks. I've been Spearfishing generally for 6 years and have been training for a couple of years. I did a 3* AIDA course with Emma Farrel reaching 25m then a course with William Trubridge, when I hit 35.2m last year.
well you kinda made me nervous i did not think you would ever come up for air. i did not see any gills on you how to you breathe under water haha. I am trying to develop that ability now. much respect!
nice, im starting to spearfish and i was wondering if you could give me any advise to be able to go down deeper than what im going and how to hold my breath longer. also if you have any tips on decompressing. thanks
I know the ones in this video say Cressi but that's just a sticker over the blades because of sponsorship. There really C4 falcon 80's blades and multiple records were set with these fins in the 1990's.
great video ,who s the freediving cameraman by the way ? too bad there isn t any fish except a 8 cm wrasse ..the med is dead time to make proper marine parks and really enforce them !
Respectfully, I disagree because the photographer descends and ascends the same depth in the same period of time as Stepane and a tank diver would have to decompress to come up from 120ft.... I freedive also, and was below 150ft today, myself....
Great vid man, i have 15 years old, i can hold my breath 2.37 seconds static but when free diving i only reach 60 feet and about 1:00 no forcing all easy i stay time a the bottom , i think that the fins affect me because they arent tight to my feet and arent soo long as yours, maybe less than half. i will appreciate any suggestions thanks alfred
GATES HOUSING, american made, used by many army, so... serious stuff. the best about this housing is that it last forever, and no condensation at all, plus hyper strong material. i used my for 7 years all over the world and never had a problem. used all the other brands on jobs and becarfull of IKELITE, condensation because all transparent and the plastic wears off fast, and on freedives much harder to surface, you should look up FISHEYE Japan brand; really great and much cheaper than GATES, BYE
This guy is beyond skilled, anyone that doesn't show respect within the realm of this sport is a jackass! This sport is only for those who can remain calm in the most extreme conditions.
not so easy...to know when u need to come up, to stay alive. I would need a self inflating float to bring the 'body' back to the surface. I think every free diver should carry such a thing.

Not only is Stapane great to watch, the camera man is holding his own as well. I am sure it was a free diver that filmed this.
Awsome ! Video's like this make trawling YT for hours well worth while. A modern day legend

DUDE UR SICK. 120 FT THAN JUST CHILLING ON THE BOTTOM LIKE ITS NOTHING.KEEP DOING WHAT UR DOING DUDE
there is ppl going a lot much deeper.... it's fabulous! you get to see all the fishes that you don't get to see when you are in SCUBA.
not a song that I would want on my iphone but I think it fits perfectly to its situation :D
GO STEPHANE
It is just beautiful, this sport and everything, I love this film, respect to this man and to cameraman.
start to clear your ears at the surface, and keep clearing till you get to the bottom,, the more clears, the more comfortable your ears..(when i dive like 50-60 feet i clear like 10 times...)
damn respect to both the the spearo and camera man! what a inspirational dive and breath hold!
what kind of gun is he using?
Am fascinated by the diving, of course... by both of you!!!

impressive breath hold ! well done!

that is a great video. You would have seemed like a ninja from another world to the fish. ( if there were any there).

Belle video.
Bravo.
Je donnerai beaucoup pour réussir a descendre autant de profondeur.
They are c4 80's blades and they are now discontinued. same pelizzari used
Beautiful video, nice dive! Respect to fellow spear fisherman .
P.S.
Nice fins !
from the type of fish, "Gharusa" it's def the mediterranian.... is it Malta?? which sinken boat is that? any ideA?
do you know the model of the fins??? i'm sure that they are cressi-sub, but on the internet... there aren't anyone like these in cressi-sub's site...
I don't believe scuba divers can ascend that quickly because of threats of the bends... anyways.. hats off to both divers!!
Nice vid, good diving. Risk to dive that depth with reelgun - respect man.
@kennycruz8 no.... :-) like stephane... freedive... camera work... using a gates housing no lights, with for this shoot a PD150 its the only way to follow him all day....
Wow! Congratulations! Did you take any freediving courses or did you reach that depth without training?
Wow, very impressive apnea skills
@maxmc89 Not correct. Its all an equation. Nitrogen saturation raises with time spent at depth. Even free divers can get Decompression Sickness. he beat the world record last year.
10 minutes 04 seconds (static)
@crankatorium Thanks. I've been Spearfishing generally for 6 years and have been training for a couple of years. I did a 3* AIDA course with Emma Farrel reaching 25m then a course with William Trubridge, when I hit 35.2m last year.
Outstanding! Professional movements.
well you kinda made me nervous i did not think you would ever come up for air. i did not see any gills on you how to you breathe under water haha. I am trying to develop that ability now. much respect!
this guy,s got balls, wish i could dive so far down and remain cool. pity he did not sting something though, great clarity
nice, im starting to spearfish and i was wondering if you could give me any advise to be able to go down deeper than what im going and how to hold my breath longer. also if you have any tips on decompressing. thanks
incredible technique!!but where are the fish?? :)
Did he have a concealed rebreather, or was that a free dive. If so then that was pretty damn good!
I know the ones in this video say Cressi but that's just a sticker over the blades because of sponsorship. There really C4 falcon 80's blades and multiple records were set with these fins in the 1990's.
yes, I have heard of rob allen guns before I have a omer caymen 100cm
oops ,didin t read ,it s fred buyle at the video ,great job !
I respect you man! takes heaps of practice hey, I cn hit 60 feet and only just stay there then I have to come up! nice!
@Okarkar lots of hard training! i can last about a minute and half underwater but not at these depths...maximum 20 meters
nice breath hold dude!
Gosh! I can't believe this diver stayed under that long on one breath!~ OMG
respect....but always remember to come back....
an old vessel from ww2 in the med, in front of Hyerres, south of france
great video ,who s the freediving cameraman by the way ?
too bad there isn t any fish except a 8 cm wrasse ..the med is dead time to make proper marine parks and really enforce them !
Wow amazing great vid Hats off.
nice, a camera men is good too.
jfjulian you said a mistake. He don't use a C4 fins but CressiSub.....
can anyone tell me what kind of fins are those?? as i know there are no cressi carbon fins on the market...
Respectfully, I disagree because the photographer descends and ascends the same depth in the same period of time as Stepane and a tank diver would have to decompress to come up from 120ft.... I freedive also, and was below 150ft today, myself....
how can you stay that long inder the water?
Great vid man, i have 15 years old, i can hold my breath 2.37 seconds static but when free diving i only reach 60 feet and about 1:00 no forcing all easy i stay time a the bottom , i think that the fins affect me because they arent tight to my feet and arent soo long as yours, maybe less than half. i will appreciate any suggestions
thanks alfred
GATES HOUSING, the best because all mechanical, no electronic stuff that goes wrong... and PD150,
Just out of curiosity what stiffness are his fins?
she's my hero!all without tanks!!!amazing!
What is the model Cressi fins? Please tell me
wow yeah respect longest i have done was 1 minute 20 but that was at the public pool hahaha,
how long did it take to build up that loung capacity
GATES HOUSING, american made, used by many army, so... serious stuff. the best about this housing is that it last forever, and no condensation at all, plus hyper strong material. i used my for 7 years all over the world and never had a problem. used all the other brands on jobs and becarfull of IKELITE, condensation because all transparent and the plastic wears off fast, and on freedives much harder to surface, you should look up FISHEYE Japan brand; really great and much cheaper than GATES, BYE
respect to the camera man too...
what is that at the bottom
there is probably more fish life on the moon than there.....
amazing lungs and technique...
Meus parabéns, você não é normal cara!
You dont dare do that without a buddy... SWB get you for sure.
@maxmc89 I didn't know, i'm not an expert about this, thank you for the answer!
nice dive keep it up
OMG i miss spear fishing
damn how long can you hold your breath
impressive stuff!
shit im struggling to breathe just watching this guy.....
This dude has got GILLS...!!!!
Wow... 36 metres.. breath hole 2:30... thats fucking amazing. How long has he been freediving for??
How can a person without an air supply last 3 mins 120 feet under water? No really does any one knows how?
yes.. it sucks.. i got my shaft stuck al the way through a rock in a cave at 70 feet...not fun...
This guy is beyond skilled, anyone that doesn't show respect within the realm of this sport is a jackass! This sport is only for those who can remain calm in the most extreme conditions.
purée la musique elle craint grave on se croirait ds un film de serie Z c dommage pour de si belle image :-(
that was a deep one
MIFSUD?? are u maltese if u are so am i i live in attard and nice spearfishing my cousin owns a store
where the fish at ?
not so easy...to know when u need to come up, to stay alive.
I would need a self inflating float to bring the 'body' back to the surface.
I think every free diver should carry such a thing.
Name of the song? Thanks -
kıskanma ne olur, çalış senin de olur be yavuz... :)
Omg, awesome, súper human
anyone know the song name?
I THINK that since he is a profecional free diver,
I think that he is just sponcering cressi. :D
I THINK!!
Mifsud e' un nome di Malta sicuramente
Check Pranayama breathing techniques, it helped me a lot.
ummm.... what about the guy that went down with him hes pretty sick 2
MIFSUD is french from south of france, VAR,
compensation techniques. or you could call it equalization. takes practice. peace.
I have these same fins for sale if anyone is interested. There C4 falcon 80's, there brand new and never used.
Sleeper02Sport what size
