- đŹđ§ When teaching, Gabi always highlighted the importance of combining isolated effects into sequences - to provide a unified foundation to a series of small interludes.
The sequence you are about to see was often taught by Gabi in his school and, although it wasnât part of his performing repertoire, it contains some effects he liked very much like âJazz Acesâ and variations on âDr. Daleyâs last trickâ, a.k.a. "The trick I would show Dai Vernonâ.
As a matter of fact, in his 2018 lectures notes âAgĂtese antes de usarâ (Shake before using), he proposed a creative process to combine independent tricks (which apparently had nothing to do with each other) into sequences with a guiding thread, wherein the spectators find variety but where they could also feel that unity mentioned earlier.
Obviously, here the unity originates from the fact that the four Aces are the chief protagonists. However in other sequences, Gabi weaves in a strong sense of unity throughout random effects without apparent relationship to create well-connected and logical routines.
Enjoy this charming sequence!
What is so beautiful with this Gabi's routine is that it so "simple" in the sense of pure. No awkward moves or complicated structures. Everything rely on his timing, handling and presentation. For someone who has some basic knowledge in magic it is not so difficult to deconstruct the routine and understand how it works. However when doing so on learns how much each move becomes minimaly necessary, how the rythm is exactly what is needed and how, above all, fluidity makes the magic flows from him to the spectator. With Gabi one might be able to learn how to reach what, in my opinion, is the ultimate stage in magic: grace. So many thanks to the people of Cosas de Gabi Pareras for providing to us all this enchanting gems. I am just a modest amateur but Gabi's magic and spirit will always accompany me in my magic journeys on the table and in life.
