      Nor my friends, colleagues and clients. We've been discussing the election for months and its so far down the list its no even funny. We have one colleague who rants about it daily but he's largely ignored, a simpleton without an original thought in his head, he simply spews out whatever the media feed him.
      No, Housing, Policing, NHS, Cost of Living...... these are the only issues we seem to come across. Obviously anyone in Dover will have VERY different experiences. I'm based in a very multicultural town/city in the Midlands.

    I am thinking of all those £300,000 (minimum), rabbit hutches, all that concrete, all those acres of tarmac, clogged country roads, towns that are too small to support the development, all the insurance claims from increased flooding because the water has nowhere to go because the infrastructure wasn't allowed for that in the cost analysis. Oh, it was costed. OK, all those increased taxes to pay for ugly sprawl after ugly sprawl paying scant attention to local traditional building; and none to genuine innovation, stretching endlessly into the fields beyond our towns and villages. what we need is complete reform of planning regulations first and foremost, I cant believe no one is talking about this. Every house doesnt have to be Net Zero compliant or meet insulation regulations these are the big issues restricting the building of new homes, we need to get back to the 1960s levels of social housing which means more pre-fabs and factory built homes if they want quick results. It often amazes me that the Germans can build a whole house in 3 days yet it takes us British about 9 months because to many people are involved in the process. it can take 3 months just to get the groundworks started in the UK which is ridiculous.

    • @TheLukeLambert
      @TheLukeLambert Před 14 dny

      Germans still have very high building standards, so it wouldn't be much to do with that. German gov't gives high subsidies to construction businesses and others in their sector, they have a HUGE steel industry which means all of their steel is much much cheaper. So many different angles to look at this but deregulation isn't the answer, the answer is supply, of which ours has absolutely tanked and we'll need to resolve if we want to build like we did in the 60s.

    They're certainly hitting the ground running and its GREAT to see, Sensible Tories and Lords have even said labour achieving more in a day than Tories in some years. Whereas the Tories simply BLOCKED everything Labour are building, planning progressing.
    Certainly looks good in their "exciting first week", lets judge them in a couple of years or so when reality has bitten. The intent is very positive though and should be commended.
