I'm a little sad that this didn't include any types of gin except London dry. Hard to consider it an "ultimate guide" if it leaves out varieties such as Old Tom gin and Plymouth gin (not to mention Sloe gin).
+Zelmel I completely agree. Even though the video is very informative, I can't shake off the feeling that it's just a bombay sapphire advertisement in disguise.
Sam, this was a perfect video for a beginner like me. Wonderful job! I enjoyed learning about the process and seeing it done. You're as charismatic as Bombay Gin itself.
Ive been having gin for a while but today was my first taste if bombay sapphire. Good lord is it delicious. Interesting to see how gin is made. Gin is greater than vodka
A quasi Anglophile, I recently read about a man asking if his wife could have a proper gin and bitter lemon in America. 2 days later at my local Meijer's Food Store I see Fever Tree Bitter Lemon on sale and tried some. The 1st 3 tastes, I think my brain was somewhat set for gin and tonic but each sip after got better and better. Yum....now I am a huge fan. So refreshing and great for folks who don't want sweet drinks. Now I'm thinking how I might garnish it for guests: float some juniper berries (do they float?), the usual lemon or lime, would a chuck of pineapple be good, would capers be crazy?, a frond of frize, how about a mint or frosted mint leaf?....hmmmmmm
You know what Sam, I regret to inform you that I'll still choose Hendrick's in my gin & tonic over your product - despite your rather excellent presentation on the subject.
Janice Cresanova Well to be honest, hendricks isnt really the same drink. I mean it's a gin, but it doesn't bare much resemblance to other Gin's...Well it does, but there is also a distinct flavor profile to Hendricks.
What's the difference in taste between Bombay Original and Sapphire? I prefer citrusy flavours but not so much spices or herbals. Or should i look at another brand like Gordon's?
I'm intrigued by the process. Mainly because I am allergic to wheat and gluten and there is this constant and heated debate as to whether we can drink gin. Do you have any thoughts on the process affecting such sufferers negatively?
Tau legae No distilled product will contain wheat protein after distillation since the proteins do not vaporise - though clearly the manufacturers can't guarantee that no cross-contamination from wheat products has occured, especially if the distillery is handling the wheat to begin with. Besides which not all gins are made with wheat-based spirit. Saying that I think you're pretty safe to drink gin unless you are a very intolerant coeliac. I would also add that the only part of the debate that seems to be 'heated', as far as I can see, is the experiences of allergy-sufferers who had anecdotal issues with distilled alcohol that could be due to a myriad of other reasons besides gluten. Celiac.com maintains *all* distilled spirits are gluten-free. Sadly, since the law states that anything that has used gluten-containing ingredients in its manufacture can't ever be labeled 'gluten-free' (even if it's been proved not to contain any once produced) then it can obviously cause confusion - particularly if some cheaper spirits made from molasses or other non-gluten ingredients can proudly claim to be gluten-free.
Jacob Ward Yeah the whole of drinks tube is sponsored by Bacardi, which is a shame because whenever they make Rum cocktails they use Bacardi instead of something like Havana Club
+Jacob Ward Sapphire is the best value. In the UK it's probably the best value for its price. Hendricks costs a fair bit more. Of course you can order other gins from specialist stores but there's delivery etc... My favorite gins are Hendricks, Bombay Sapphire, Beefeater, Bluecoat, Number 3 London Dry Gin and Tanqueary 10. I think bombay sapphire works incredibly well in almost all cocktails since it's so smooth and you can work the flavors into many different drinks. And maybe it's just because I love cucumber, but hendricks with baby cucumber slices + fever tree tonic water is my all time favorite.
is it possible to purchase a gin before it's diluted to the bottling strength? I love drinking Bombay Sapphire straight out of the bottle but would be nice to have a tad more kick in it
+zanesmith666 people are too stupid to get that... they are used to 40% so you have to live with that for big brands. +patrick galli he said he'd use half as much which is correct... meaning for mixing.
+Cypeq For mixing, yes... thats correct. but still it will behave different. but there are people who like drinking it straight. and for that 35 to 46 is perfect.
Bit of a myopic, one world, view of gin. It's given as a fact in this video that vapor infusion is better than maceration but in fact many world class gins boil the botanicals. This is merely an advert and not the least bit objective. In short, it's corporate smut.

It literally says "Sponsored" in the bottom left corner at the beginning of the video.

NortonsNestMonthly :)
Sponsored or not, that was an amazing intro into the process. Keep it up with these kind of videos!

Vesper and Gin Fizz are my alltime favourite cocktails!
andoriz0r You have excellent taste x
Tanqueray No. 10 is my favourite
Nicely done video. Highly informative. Thank you for sharing. Blessings ChefMike
Would love to see how to make homemade peach iced tea just in time for summer, very refreshing drink.
Gin my first and favourite
Love the little flash of your turquoise trousers mate!!! Catch up for a G&T or two soon bruvva!!
It's a Bombay add but heck it's decent enough gin! Smooth grain spirit and clean spicy florals, zero off notes.
My favourite gin coctail... gin neat.
I can relate as I sip n taste my gin😃
Some of the editing and sound design reminds me of Bill Nye.
Well done!
+sock2828 Cheers!
I was just planning a trip to Laverstoke Mill today, must be fate :)
Mairead M It's a cracking day out.
Cool!
BOOM - knowledge dropped.
Gin is refeshing. I love a Gin Mojita-the most refreshing drink on a hot day imho.

WOAH! Your garnishing ideas sound INCREDIBLE. Try them all and let us know what works best!
Is Hendricks produced the same way (except for the botanical elements)?
You know what Sam, I regret to inform you that I'll still choose Hendrick's in my gin & tonic over your product - despite your rather excellent presentation on the subject.

Gregory House M.D. But couldn't you say that about all gin brands, if you want to go that route?
Janice Cresanova Try Monkey47, definitely my favorite gin !
BAWderDOn
Never heard, but I'll give it a go (if it's available here that it) - cheers!
Hendricks is the best!

nice video
Thanks Meaza!
Beside the Product placement placement a really informing vid

Stick to London Dry Gin and you'll be fine!
I wonder who sponsored this...
Jacob Ward ''Sponsored by Bacardi''
Jacob Ward Yeah the whole of drinks tube is sponsored by Bacardi, which is a shame because whenever they make Rum cocktails they use Bacardi instead of something like Havana Club
Gregory House M.D. And everyone conspicuously holds bottles of shit gin when talking about cocktails.

I don't think 85-90 ABV can be considered "a tad more kick" :P
I love tanqueray ten
Seagrams gin tha best
Nutri-Grain spirit? :P
Post note: used Amsterdam gin
BREWIS GINLEY
Why dilute it? I could just use half as much :/
zanesmith666 flavor behaves different at different strenghts. Water actually opens up the aroma. Otherwise you wouldn't smell much nor taste much.
+zanesmith666 people are too stupid to get that... they are used to 40% so you have to live with that for big brands.

Why nobody told me gin is so good?
I think it's Jenever...I'm Dutch
Does he teach at a Gin Institute?
Is he taking on any teachers aides by any chance?
ChaingunCassidy It's a remote-learning course. Feel free to join in.

This is the least charismatic guy ever
