- SONY RX100 MARK III Review/Hands On I go hands on and give a quick review of the newer Sony Cybershot RX100 Mark iii, 3. I needed a light and robust travel camera and this Sony solves ALL issues.

For all the users of the M3 that are annoyed that the camera shuts down when you hide the viewfinder. Just before you press down the viewfinder, press the power on/off button and it won't shutdown!
+Miguel Ferreira yes!
Hi Eric ! I know this question is a little bit out of topic, is one of your eye is different colored than the other one?
Great video though
Love my RX100. It's been my travel camera of choice for the past couple of years. I agree that if you are choosing a camera for carrying around in your pocket it does need to be properly small. I am often tempted by the X100 cameras but size-wise they're neither one thing or the other.
Exactly!
Art of Photography brought me here. You made me stayed and subscribed.
Minh Nguyen Welcome to the channel, thanks so much for subbing!
Hi Eric! This is a wonderful video! Do you think I should get this camera or the Samsung nx3000 or mini? I need a camera that has the "selfie" screen, I am planning on vlogging, but I also want to take professional photos similar to dslr quality. I really want a small and lightweight camera because I will be traveling but quality is very important to me! Thank you!
melly c Thanks so much! I think the Sony no doubt. No question. Plus your spending quality money for a quality product.
Thank you Eric! Have a wonderful day! I liked and subscribed! Keep up the amazing work!
Hey Eric, I currently shoot with a Nikon D610 with a 50mm 1.8g. I am in the market for a compact for street but just wandered if I took this along to a payed shoot (wedding or event) could it hold up.
I would not trust this for a professional job at all!
Best vlogging camera on the market right now.
It's up there man, a bit pricey brand new though
My main hold ups to getting this camera at this point are sound quality of the onboard mics and over heating. I'm happy with the sound quality of my sony nex5t, but the videos I've watched of this camera's footage seem to have not great audio. I think the NEX5T is a great camera, but the overheating issue sucks. I do actually do takes sometimes that are over 20 minutes, and I don't always get even that if it's hot or sunny or if I'm just getting the camera hot with successive short takes. If you can shed any light on either of those from your personal experience, I'd really appreciate it. It's a pretty big purchase, but I need a go everywhere camera with excellent steady cam capability, which the NEX5t is not. Thanks.
+SkillCult Audio isnt the best but it isnt thr worst thing in the world. Vloggers love to use cameras like these but now a days a Sony a6000 would be a way to go I think.
+Eric Rossi thanks. a6000 has weak stabilization though, which is one of my main criteria. Also size. definitely not a pocket camera... and still no mic jack :-/ it's funny, we just get pickier every year and want a pro camera in a tiny body. We'll never be satisfied :)
Haha we will NEVER be satisfied. Yeah stabilization gets tricky as you move up. But there are certain gimbals and such to help out, just as always, costs $$$$$
Great video , if you had to choose between this RX100 M3 or the a6000 (kit) as your only camera which one would it be, kinda like both but I have to choose
thx in advance
+Peter Vernelen a6000 hands down!
Could you explain why?
Danial Arif
because its an actual camera
***** very informative and factual.
Good video thanks I’m considering a small camera for street photography can’t decide between this camera and the Ricoh gr Ii I’m used to my view finder on my dslr would l miss it on the Ricoh as lots of reviews praise the image quality
I cant answer that for you, personally I dont need a viewfinder. For my Fuji X Pro 2 or any camera I use for street, I just use the back screen anyway.
Eric Rossi ok thanks for your reply, in an ideal world I’d rent before buying but I don’t think that option is available in the UK
You can also see if a local camera store has something as well, not sure how that works in the UK either
Eric Rossi thanks that’s worth a try
Hi, I'm intreated I buying a camera, but I'm deciding between the Rx100 III and the a6000. To your preference, which one do you prefer?
I think I can easily help. Do you want something more light and more portable, an all in one type camera. Or a camera that is a touch heavier, needs multiple lenses but has a touch better image quality?
***** I want a camera that is portable, and can take both good pictures and videos, along with panoramas.
Liam Guiritan
So the last question is, do you want a camera with one lens that can cover a 24-70 range or do you want a camera that you can buy multiple lenses?
Im not too overly concerend with different lenses but want one that can take amazing quality and can zoom without sacrificing quality
Well pick between then. I feel the better quality is the a6000 but you will wind up spending more money for lenses and travel heavier. But remember, its not the camera that takes amazing pictures its you. The gear just assists. But in great light, this little Sony can pack a punch.
hey can you or someone else tell me how you upload videos from the camera to youtube since you can transfer avchd videos, what do you do?
You have to download the entire avchd file on your computer to be able to use it.
***** omg thank you so much for your fast respond, but what if i want to edit it on my phone, how can i send the video from my computer to my phone?
Of course! What computer do you have?
i have an hp w1907 , i tired emailing it to myself but it doesn't open on my phone :(
yeah you need to convert it first. If you have quick time or a video editor on your computer use that first. If anything, switch the video mode to /mp4.
I need a camera for my VLOGs is this much better than the Sony HX90B Super Zoom? Please get back to me please
Oh yeah it blows that away
+Eric Rossi ah bugga! Was hoping to save some money on a camera for my VLogs.. Could you give me some advise please? Would the HX90V be good enough to use for everyday VLogging?
Kelly Rose Hibbert I see this is old. Did I get the hx90?? Hx80 is same camera w/o gps. I bet the hx80 is awesome for starting to vlog. Which did u get??
Not a camera question.. Is one of your eyes different color? One is blue and the other one is two toned.
+melvin jackson great question I have something called Coloboma. I made a video about it if you are interested, czcams.com/video/v_c5Jo4iu-c/video.html
F/1.4?
I review the #Sony Rx100 mark 3, really strong portable camera. Is this an alternative you'd like? I sold my Fuji for this. #photography

Thanks ***** Its nothing special focus wise. Does well, you do have control over selecting your points though which is great.
Hi!
Your review is good , but you didn't tell nothing about video and i didn't find answers on comments bellow =((( I have many question and would appreciate if you help me.
1) Can you tell me, how long can you record a highest quality video on RX100 III with fully charged battery? Its probably 30 min? Isn't it? 0_0
2) And if i'm right, how many 30 min videos can you record on fully charged battery?
3) Can you charge battery on usb, while you recording video???
4) If my sister's DLSR looking down gravitation making her objective lens go down. I didn't know is it ok or she broke it, but i want to know if RX100 III have same problem =)))
1.) Correct
2.) All depends on your memory card but the battery has on okay life. They say 300-305 photos per charge. It does run quick though.
3.) From my testing no you cant charge and shoot at the same time.
4.) Ahh she has a lens that has lens creep! and some lenses will do that. But this is electronic and will NOT do that. It's much smaller so no weight there.
***** Thank you for answers! =)

Thanks for watching the video!
Great camera. Expensive little thing too. ***** did you get my email?
Hey man, nah I didnt. I dont have anything in my Spam either
Really, OK. . I just resent it. Let me know if you get it.
The RX100 mk3 would be really good if it were not so overpriced. For its quality, it is more fitting of a $200-250 price point. For the price of the RX 100 III, you can buy the sony A6000 with kit lens, in addition to the Sony 55-210mm F4.5-6.3, and a 32GB sandisk extreme. Here is a good comparison of the 2 www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-RX100-III-versus-Sony-A6000___957_942
For a slightly larger size, you get a massive boost in quality at a cheaper price.
But does it fit in a small pocket? Both are great cameras. I like the RX100 because it's at the other end of the size range from my full frame DSLRs and that's very handy if you want a good quality camera with you most of the time.
Steve Young
With a pancake lens, the A6000 will fit in a pocket
RX100 VS a6000 (size)
101x58x41 mm vs 120x67x45 mm (most of the thickness comes from the grip of the A6000, thus a pancake lens will not really stick out further. Though who would want to put such an expensive camera in their pocket where there is a good chance at dust/ link getting into areas where you don't want them, in addition to the camera possibly getting bumped or stressed?
You will likely have a camera bag
But the issue is then having to invest in lenses. Driving up your cost a ton. Two totally different cameras and markets
Razor2048 Pocket-sized cameras, for me, are about convenience. The RX100 has a Zeiss zoom which is more convenient than a prime. Eric mentions that the fixed prime on the X100s is a down side. If quality is the priority I pick up a DSLR. If I was only able to own 1 reasonably priced camera, the a6000 would certainly be a contender.

I understand that, it is just a really hard sell when they are charging nearly $200 more than another camera that they also make, which gives massively better image quality.
It is like intel trying to sell the core i3 for more than the core i7, it just wouldn't fly with and component buyer, even if they advertise it as having a smaller PCB footprint and lower TDP, it is offering less performance and thus it has to be cheaper to offer a good price to performance ratio.
For a camera, the primary function is image capture and thus that it should have the most impact on price (price per image quality/ image capture performance).
