Yep, the couch surfers will scroll right past a deer video this long without a giant buck in the thumbnail and miss some of the best scouting advice you can get. Thanks for the video. I got 4 does this year with the rifle and still have my buck tags. I have a good WMA to hunt with the bow. Gonna scout and put out cams. Armed with better information.

I got my first buck and first deer and first with a bow this season. I did the leg work but truly this is really Dan’s deer because his wisdom is what put me in the right spot to make the shot. I’m getting a little plaque and the big buck serial killer will have a credit on there. Thanks Dan I hope you become bigger than Fred Bear in the hunting community because your doing more than just hunting, your the mentor to hundreds if not thousands of hunters just like me that are just “regular joes”.

Probably one of my favorite videos you’ve posted in the last couple years. Absolutely loved watching your process and how you’re never afraid to keep trying stuff until you find the right spot and the right deer to chase. You’re absolutely right, you don’t need to kill something to have a great hunt and this is a perfect example of that. Lets go Brandon!!!

Man as an Ohioan I would have loved to just tagged along and learn every move Dan makes. I have learned more about hunting from his videos then my grandfather taught me in 15 years. He was a walk in and sit by tree guy. Never taught me what sign to look for how to read the wind or that you need to scout to be in the best possible position for success. I was 9 when I started hunting I'm 31 now. I shot my first buck ever on public land thanks to Dan!!! Thank you sir for everything you post and do for your fellow hunter.

I have had better than average success with nice bucks on public and private by permission. Not a single day has gone by that I don’t think about bow hunting. Always learning and strategizing. But always felt like there was something missing. I have been a big believer in bedding areas. Sought them out everywhere. I figured out what I was missing after watching one CZcams video of yours. Buck bedding! It’s been a game changer for me. I have capitalized a few times and a few close calls since. I appreciate all you do. Thank you and please keep videos coming

I hunted the Blue Ridge Mountains in VA for a long time. Then I got divorced, that’s a story I won’t bore ya with. We I learned hunting in those mountains was travel routes between bedding and food or water the either ran the sides of the ridges or they would run the tops of those ridges. It took a while but eventually I found that that applied to young bucks and most does. The big bucks would always be below their routes. An old timer told me a mature buck will never silhouette himself. Like he would be likely to do on the tops. I appreciate your videos and the knowledge you are kind enough to share! Merry Christmas brother!!

Hunted Southern Ohio hills in Washington county for a few years now and I live in WV. I've ran into a local trying to mess my hunt up with an atv because he saw my car parked at the end of the road he lives on. He actually drove it on Wayne National Forest land tho. It's a shame that some locals have an ownership mentality over the public land they live by. I actually posted about it on Facebook public Ohio group and most the Ohio resident were just plain spiteful saying then don't come to Ohio, and stay in your own state as if they own Ohio and the National land. It's okay tho I still got one of "their" big bucks this year. It's some tough hunting in those public hills.

Hunting hills very similar to that in missouri and I will bet my life 100% of the time cruising and bedding is always low. If you find a bench even a few feet wide on the north side of a secondary ridge down low, you can have my house if there isn't deer living on it. The can run around the top if danger comes from below and dive into the valley if it comes from above. Theyre out of sight from the access trails and roads on top. Its a bulletproof setup for them in places where the pressure is always up high

Great video. I will say that I think you maybe have underestimated the pressure that the large national forests in southern Ohio feel throughout the year. Especially during the gun season, you will have a hard time going anywhere public without seeing multiple other hunters.
The ODNR has started to ease up on bag limits due to declining deer populations across the state. Not a good sign for those of us who only can get out a handful of times every year.

Numbers are definitely lower in southern OH compared to the ag/hill areas in east oh but still some good buck deer.m. I think you all are maybe in the Wayne NF area.? Roads on top and more gradual hills. Other areas have no roads on top and these are the kind I like- 300 feet straight up will eliminate a lot of pressure!

I hunt central OH, there’s tons more pressure.
I’m always doing that, find great sign and pass on a lot of 2.5/3.5 year olds. But haven’t been able to kill the big buck I jumped in late October. The crazy chess game came almost drive you crazy

Would enjoy spend a day just scouting with you, because I feel I'm always missing the boat, I have shot some nice bucks with bow, nothing that would compare to what you shoot, but I'm turning 62 this November and know that time is ticking. I acess to 120 acres of private, my buddy and I are the only ones who hunt it. I also know a spot I use to hunt on public that I have take some nice bucks that would be right up your alley Dan. I live in wis if you ever want to hunting I'm game, but I'm sure there are a million guys who would jump at that opportunity. I live in appleton wis, and hunt private in merril wis, the public I hunted is in Brussels wis.

Yes, everybody comes to Ohio at some point. But Ohio public is pretty friggen tough. There's big bucks here, but there's easier states out there... I encourage you fellas to go there...
