The old Owattona swather did it. Farming is not easy, but we're figuring it out!

normally I subscribe and watch a channel for specific content...yours is like opening a surprise package each time..I freaking dig it ....you two rock
I miss working on the “old” stuff. It was so simple with points and carburetors. No black box electronics or “programmed obsolescence”. They were built to last and be field repairable.
AMEN to that!! I always tell everyone, my next "new" vehicle will be built before 1973.
That was rad. Jonas is the flying farmer now
At least your tail wheel experience is useful😊
Best comment EVER!!
Man, I can see why she loves you, mate. NOTHING frightens you, and every day is a new "old skool" adventure. I just love your enthusiasm for whatever is in front of you!
My oh my what tremendous memories that brings back. I was raised in North Central Oklahoma about 15 miles from Kansas and I spent hundreds of hours on a swather much like that one cutting Alfalfa hay.
Alva?
@@russellsmith3825 No, about 2 hours east of there, Ponca City. I spent some time in Alva deer hunting though.
@@skydiver6711 my grandparents & dad are in the Odd fellows cemetery in Ponca City
@@russellsmith3825 My Grandparents on my father's side are buried there as well. Are you living in Alva now?
No I'm northish of there about an hour, west of Wichita
You know what I love about you... Your not afraid to get after it and make it happen! Keep it up!
You guys are so real humble God bless you guys 🙏🤓👍
You always bring a smile to my face. I think you now have a runway.
I was thinking the same thing!! LoL
Jonas and Sylvia...you are both cool people doing your thing living life, going on adventures, creating new adventures, figuring things out and making things work, as a team. One of the best things about a good, interesting, cool CZcams channel (like yours) is when you record yourselves just doing things, trying new things, discovering what works, learning how to get things done the best way you can with what you have available...just like people did in the old days, as inexpensively as possible as long as it worked. Thanks for the interesting, entertaining, farm-engineering video.
My dad shared a 200acre farm with his second wife. It was her families property so it stayed with her. I miss that place though. Spent the better part of my teenage years there.
The real fun part is stacking the bales in a hundred degree hay loft, BY HAND!...Moses
Caught a quick glimpse of Silvija watching you work! That's always nice!
Badass dude, love the journey of greasing up old machinery and putting it back in service. Amazing how that old stuff is 10x more reliable and durable than the crap manufactured today. Good on ya.
Actually new farm machinery is incredibly reliable ..made to tighter tolerances than the old and made to last just like todays cars are way better than the 70's .. dont let nostalgia make you falsely think it was better .. Price however ..thats a different matter
You did it bro, great job.. next step is bailing all that hay, stacking it , and if you don’t have animals , selling your crop… you can do it!
Good job Jonas. That's how ya do it my man. Now you are a farmer.
I was a little child in 1969 and I've seen the last cut of the previous generation of swather! Tremendous memories, thanks Jonas for such a sweet remembrance.
I was in high school in 1969. And I can't remember a thing??
@@james1795 It was in a remote location where this swather had landed at the end of the 40's and which was still in use as noone wanted to spend the money to bring any new stuff!
@@midshiptrib4132. We used a sickle bar, let the hay dry for a day, then a rake to put it into wind rows.
Never a dull moment 🙄😅
You have a good man. Awesome job you two!!
Hey,, you have a run way now!! LoL JK
HAHAHA! That's not a bad thing sometimes, Silvija! 😁
Same carb as used on my 1950 Ford 8n tractor. Used for many years and by many different manufacturers. You can buy a new one on Amazon for $35.00 but I would be skeptical of the quality.
I look forward to tuning into this channel 50 years from now and seeing an old Jonas with long white beard riding his tiller.
The Amish do this with a horse drawn thresher where I live. So beautiful to watch.
When we lived in Lancaster PA it was fun to watch a 12-14 yr old boy run a 6 horse team and leave a field in beautiful straight lines after plowing.
You can still watch "Working Horses with Jim". Jonas would probably be better off with horses:-) czcams.com/video/HEUmYxwowEM/video.html
Hey Jonas, I enjoyed that. Brought a smile to my face. Greetings from Durban South Africa! 😎
Very impressive. Cool video. Thank you.
Congrats! Much respect! This winter, mebbe drain and flush that fool system, uh, fuel system.
That's good work Jonas.
I love how when i first started watching your videos I was learning how to fly various aircraft, and now I’m learning how to farm hay. I can’t wait to see what’s next on the journey of Jonas!
Great job! Congratulations ! Great videos! Nice to watch. Your are a good example of will and determination !
We are happy you were able to ''work the bugs out" and cut your first cutting. It must feel good to have big success with your projects.
Turn that Hay a couple Times the Next 2 Days. In the Mean Time, get the Bailer, and Bail movers ready too Go!!! Looks like Great Grass Hay!!!
Good to see you finally doing an honest days work! LOL Seriously though. Keep the antics low! Believe it or not there are a hell of a lot more folks killed in farming accidents than there ever have been in airplane accidents! Great content with fun and interesting life variety! Go team Marcinko!
Yeah, all the un-guarded moving parts on that thing make me sweat a little.
I’m a mostly retired farmer who sold my cows and rented most of my land, but I keep a few sheep and cut some hay with my old equipment and I know the challenge of keeping it running. I flew a few hours back in the day but ran out of money to keep at it. I still love aviation from afar and your new farming enterprise brings me even more to enjoy. Best of luck in all you do.
That was great. True farmer blood in those veins.
Nice I just swathed hay too. Get an line 5 dollar clear fuel filter on the fuel line and some spares.
You guys are great. Awesome video.
Good job Jonas!
Jonas, you're a dangerous man..... you probably run with scissors. Nice cut job there!!
Please remain seated while the ride is in motion. Thanks for the video. Be Safe.
... into a lot of fun! :)
Good job little brother!!! You’re a young man after my own heart! I love watching your adventures because you remind me of me about 25 years ago!!! Keep up the good work!!! 🤠👍
Love it! Nice work brother.
Great vid, keepthem coming!
Look at you farmer Jo! Great work!
The early air cooled VW beetles had oil bath air filters. It sounds like a good idea but they are more restrictive and let more debris through than quality paper filters of today. Way cool getting the old equipment back up and running, a real sense of accomplishment.
"Sweet"? Dam straight! That's some sweet hay! Well done Farmer J!
well done!
Jonas, this has absolutely nothing to do with flying but found this to be strangely and completely enjoyable to watch. Congrats on getting that "vintage" machinery working!
Great job, dry it , bale it, sell it!
Built just down the road from me. Good to see quality machines brought back to life.
That is nice looking hay man
Jonas - the “old tractor” Virgin. That drain plug is just like an old Ford tractor- all the oil is out in seconds. A piece of steel pipe in the right diameter makes adjusting the sickle guards easier after hitting rocks.
That belt had 2-3 seasons left……..;)
Damn that was a great Vid loving every minute of it your going to be a real true farmer dude from farmer to Farmer you're going to make it you have all the makings of being a farmer that oil was black now good job good job lol 😂😂😂😆😆
Thank you!
Don’t forget to add an inline fuel filter.
My personal rule when reviving old equipment: Always start with the carb!!!!!! Very fun watch - thanks for sharing!
Jonas, the BEST farwest gentleman farmer of the Green Acres ! With a soutern accent on top !!! EHA ! 🤠👍👍
My first job was baling hay. So many good and tough memories! This was fun to watch!
Farmer Jonas!
Great job!
Hello from Minnesota! My grandpa had o e like that. I remember going with my grandma out to the field to bring lunch to my grandpa and sitting on the back of the pick up and having lunch with him. Good memories!!
Lovely to see this swather at work, it's something completely unknown here in the UK - unless you count the very modern self propelled mowers. The only one I had ever seen was on the Estate where my father worked, they had a New Holland swather, in the mid 70's but didn't stay very long and was replaced by a disc mower. Great video!
WOW, there really isn't anything you can't fix or do! This was a really fun video to watch, your excitement was so real! Anyone who knows you understands your God given Talent! Like she always says, "You're amazing man Jonas!
Now the fun part of bailing it and picking it all up! It's worse because it's a dry and hotter job. Hope your knotters are in good shape on the bailer because they can drive a man insane if you don't understand them when they mess up knots.
Video coming up of the nightmare baler! 😆 I’ve learned a lot
NICE
This farming video is so cool. Thank you very much for it. You can be really proud of yourself for this accomplishment. Bringing an old machine back to life and doing really useful things with it. It takes endurance and industriousness to get this kind of work done.
... laughing .... when I saw this, the fleeting thought of there sure ain't no SAT tracking happening here .. caused me to do the googly thing ....
-- the GPS project was started by the US department of Defense in 1973
- was opened for public use in September 83
... you did a good job refurbishing and getting the crop cut
thx for sharing ... as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ...
Jonas, you’re amazing! Just one thing; being this multitalented can burn you out. Try to say: “no I can’t” once in a while.
You will know what you got yourself into when you start running that Bailer, good luck with that one 💯😎👍
Hey yet another brilliant Vlog, keep going , love watching you and Marg getting on top of things , what a team ,Team Marcinko is you Jonas and Silvija xx
Jonas that's fantastic to see this old girl doing what she was designed and built to do. There is just something about see this old iron working the field.
This brings back some nostalgic memories from growing up in the 60s and early 70s.
I've run sickle bar mowers in the past, it was handy as can be to have a couple of spare sickle bars ready to slide into the cutter bar when they started getting dull. I don't know if you can get sickle bars for this machine anymore. If you can it helps big-time with lowering down time a lot. With these 4 1/2 inch grinders it will make sharping a lot easier and faster. The trick is keeping the cutting-edge at the right angle.
Come for the flying, stay for the farming!
I first saw one of your videos about 3 years ago and have watched all of them on your channel since then. One thing I always like about them is the music you choose to edit into them.
Most of the time I will acquire the full song and everytime I listen to one of the songs, I have a sense of flying (at time lapse speed of course).
I just wanted to let you know your little trick in this video didn't work on me. I still feel like I'm flying and not in a field on a swather when I hear Run All the Way by Layup.
Thanks!
I picked up a very similar model the other day. Mine is a 1968 Case 955 swather. Im selling it to a collecter for a small profit. I'd like to keep it but not set up to house anything yet.
Outstanding! Good to see you guys!
I have to compliment you on being willing to tackle any task you encounter.
Well done guys! Thanks!
I remember when we got one just like that one new. Guess I’m getting old.
Congratulations and a job well done reviving the old girl! It would have cost a lot of money to have that cut, money saved is money well earned, and oh, by the way, we really be missin' Farmer Jonas :{)
You guys are doing great 👍
Hilarious vid loved it.
Beautiful!
Poor Jonas...always some mechanical disaster. But what I see is a free man.
@3:10 lmfao at that dialogue. hahahahah!
Way to go Jonas! Back in the fifties all the air filters were oil bath. Funny you had never seen one!
It’s non stop fun at y’alls house! Fun video Marcinko team.
LOOK DADDY IM A FARMER!!!! right on bro!!!
Awesome, that thing is such a cool contraption! Neat to see some of the stuff you had to fix and deal with too. Now you need to find an old fashion sun umbrella set up to put on it. Oh, and might be a good idea to set the valves on the engine too.
Flashed me back to running NewHolland swathers in 200 to 600 acre uneven ranch fields as a teen, 50 years ago.
love your videos. greetings from germany
Love it!
Congrats. Great job.
Maybe take a look at how a zamboni does the ice in an arena so that you don't have to stop and make those abrupt corners. Smoother!
Great job! Love your videos.
I love that you have brought the machine back to life. Fun to watch
Nice! Congrats. I like the song too "Run All the Way" by Layup.
Hell yeah Nice work!
Love it man! Farmer Jonas! That has a nice ring to it!
Now ya gotta dry it and then bail it. Fun fun.
👍!!!!!!!!!!!!!👍 Jonas , Lakūnas ----- Fermeris !!!!!!!!!!!
cool
Looking forward to the bailer video next. Lol
It’s coming! Haha 😂
Sweet ! Love this side of your vid’s.
