I've never seen an oystercatcher, but they are a cool sight to behold.
They really are! Very unique!
Those black backed gulls are experts at grabbing pizza out of your hands on the boardwalk. Ocean City NJ hires falconers to patrol the boards during the summer
Having a massive dark mantled gull steal your pizza sounds scarring
Yeah its not fun. During the day they have falconers walk with their falcons and at night they use owls. Plus they play the predator bird calls through outdoor speakers. Seems to be working to redirect their food foraging to more natural areas.
Welcome to New Jersey, Barnegat lighthouse is one of my favorite spots! Another awesome spot is called 8 mile loop, just north of Atlantic city! I'm glad ya'll had a great day!
I think you are referring to the 8-mile wildlife loop at Edwin B. Forsythe NWR, aka Brigantine, in Galloway, NJ, a fantastic birding hot spot 😊
Horseshoe crabs molt and leave their exoskeletons all over the place. They look just like you'd guess a dead crab would look. I found them frequently on LBI (where you guys were) and the Delaware coast when I lived in New Jersey.
Oh cool! So that’s likely a molt?
@@BadgerlandBirding Yup! I have a few saved that I collected off the beach.
GREAT video w/ beautiful photos and videography ! Glad I subscribed to your channel. 🌟🌟🥇🌟🌟
love that golden-hour lighting on those Oystercatchers!
When the hour is gold, it’s time to be bold! Lol
Did you report the leg band numbers? It would be interesting to know more about where the Oystercatchers had traveled.
Another place I'll have to visit someday. I've spent about a total of half an hour by the ocean in my life, on the Florida Gulf Coast in 2022. Lots of pelicans, which was so cool. But I'm going to need more beach time, haha. Loons and any of the sea ducks are high priority lifers for me. There's something really dramatic about sea ducks. I guess we usually think of ducks as residents of quiet ponds and wetlands, and it's sort of surprising and striking to see them bobbing on the ocean waves in a much harsher environment.
That dolphin photobomb moment must have been awesome to see in person!
I spent my summers playing around LBI and Old Barney. Would love to go back just to go birding. Thanks for doing this!
Gotta come to MD!
We have one video from Baltimore! But definitely need to hit some hotspots out there sometime.
Nice!
I need to get down to Barnegat soon. I was over at Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge a couple of weeks ago and got some great shots of a variety of birds, but I'd love to see the harlequins over at Barnegat.
Awesome that you got a chance to see all those brants! ❤
i can almost smell the Cormorant despite it's breif appearance.
Lol
You should report the oyster catcher banding
We actually ran into one of the beach bird monitors there and they were already well aware of it!
Assateague Island Virginia should be on your destination list!!
What are the top birds to find there?
A variety of shorebirds, songbirds, raptors, waterfowl, and waders. The most common birds include osprey, herons, egrets, sandpipers, shorebirds, ducks, and geese. Other birds on the island include gulls, tundra swans, Brant geese, and black-backed gulls.
Amazing species! When are you guys putting out the vid on big week? I wish I could of saw you there. When did you visit new jersey? looks cold🥶
I think this was mid-April! Will hopefully have some Biggest Week stuff up soon! Wish we could have seen you there too!
Is the Oyster catcher on beach arrest? Is this an episode of Feathers and Fetters? Break bird band bondage! Or is that a felony?
Magee marsh next year for peak spring migration, I hear it’s a must!
Didja check out Forsythe NWR? And at the other side of the island, at the southern tip, is a part of it called Holgate.
Harlequin duck!!!! Like the one at Magee marsh 😂
jk
🤣🤣🤣
The oystercatchers are very nice. I still haven't seen that species (despite devoting quite a bit of time to looking for it in Florida), it's pretty high on my wishlist of ABA area birds I have yet to see.
You just need to wait for that vagrant report in Wisconsin to come in :p
So, by midwest, do you mean the extent of tbe Great Lakes, or do they riam further south?
Way better than Jersey Shores!
