🎸💯 Kansas definitely killz it‼🤯🔥 "Dust in the Wind" has been one of my faves since the first time I heard it. I was just looking for Christmas gifts in a strip mall in Mt. Airy, NC. There was a cool little record shop in there & as I was about to pass it, this song started playing & stopped me dead in my tracks! I was flat broke in those days & couldn't afford jack shit but I went in, got the name of the band, etc. That Christmas, a guy that I worked with at Wendy's drew my name & amazingly that Kansas album was the gift he chose for me! Perfect gift & I nearly wore it out! Very cool memories! ❤
Don't ya just love how the cosmos just falls in line in those special times. I have a few of those moments myself. One that stands out for me is when I first heard The Marshall Tucker Band's song "Can't you see" playing in a record store. I dug up all my change and bought the album, and have no regrets... they're a great band! BTW, Kansas is the band I would recommend for the best named after a state!
I think the messege is don't spend your precious time on earth stressing over irrelevent stuff but to live your life to the fullest ,find inner peace and be happy .😊❤️We are only dancing on this earth for a short while make the best of it.God bless✝️
"All Your Money Won't Another Minute Buy"...That Line Makes Me Think Of Bob Marley's Last Words To His Son Ziggy,, "Money Can't Buy Life"...R.I.P. Bob 🙏
This is such a beautiful song, used to play it all the time when it first came out. It always reminds me of the Dr. Seuss story “ Horton hears a who” . Same theme.
You nailed it Biz, that's exactly what the song is about. It went 3x platinum and probably was their all time biggest hit. Kerry Livgren, the composer was inspired by a native american poem when he wrote the lyrics. I read that he also felt this song didn't really represent the band's sound. The band has a much bigger and artistically complex sound, which you will discover as you move forward with Kansas. This was their one mellow "incredibly beautiful" song that touched many people of all walks of life. I'm excited for your journey through Kansas catalog. ✌ Also, the band Queen loved Kansas, they became friends and they both attended each other's concerts. Queen was stunned at how awesome Kansas was.
This is from their "Point of Know Return" album. The title song is a banger. The whole album is an experience that you have to listen to at least once. It's from back in the day when people listened to entire albums...
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. I feel as if it's about not taking life for granted and making the most of it. All your money will not another minute buy but love is eternal. This is the kind of song that when it comes on the radio, I find myself appreciating the sky, how the light is falling, simply thanking the universe for its beauty. The simple yet profound tune, harmonies and lovely violin (or fiddle) all add up to a song which withstands the test of time. Thank you for sharing young man! 😽💋🎶
Some great songs from them are "Play the Game Tonight" ( thats a different singer John Elefante 1982), "All I wanted" ( Steve Walsh is back singing,1986) ,"Point of Know Return" ( yes I spelled it right lol) , "The Wall" , "Fight Fire With Fire", & my personal Fav "People of the SouthWind" ! Im sure others have theirs! ☮
I always interpreted this song as having the theme of humility. The things that the world tells us to strive for are all vanities (wealth, power, prestige, etc.), and in the end they are without value to our eternal souls, as insignificant as dust in the wind. Other "Kansas" recommendations: "The Wall", "Icarus (Borne on Wings of Steel)", "Child of Innocence", and "Crossfire".
Well said!!! Every time a famous person dies, I think of this song. Mainly because that person’s death was no more sad than when we lose a loved one. We all are just dust in the wind. As the Bible states, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. What matters the most in life is what’s in our hearts. And the kindness we show to others. That’s my opinion anyway.
Back in the day when this was hot for some reason Kansas NEVER played in Nebraska. I lived there so a buddy and I had to go to Red Rocks (Colorado/God's Cathedral). Very well worth the trip and a nice ride on a couple of Harleys with our girls. I've seen them since then with the new band members in Reno (former Harrah's outdoor venue) Still killin' it. I still have this LP./Album.
Hey Biz, im glad your doing so many reviews! I really look forward to them and your insightfulness and silliness. Here is one last comment about Kansas, and then I'll give it a rest. I just listened to their Leftoverture album and it really is Kerry Livgren's (the blonde composer and guitarist) Magnum Optus. I hope you review the whole album. Don't get discourage thinking it's going to be soft like Dust in the Wind. They do tons of high energy switch ups and their lyrics are always so meaningful and in the light. They are in a genre all their own, truly. There is not other band like Kansas. ✌👊
"Poetic" is a great word for this song. You might want to check out "Miracle Out of Nowhere" or "Cheyenne Anthem", both off the Leftoverture album. Keep up the good work...
Here's a later track (after Steve Walsh moved on in 1981 - replaced by John Elefante on lead vocals) - "Play The Game Tonight": czcams.com/video/W2azO25JtFo/video.html
I love what you take away from these songs. This one has been one of those in the background of my entire life from the early teenage years to now. I will admit, I've never bought an album from Kansas, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy them because I do. Very much. I'm glad you reacted to it!
Friend...I liked how you were moved by the truths of this song. Although we are insignificant compared to the creator of the universe....He still loves us with an everlasting love. We need to keep our eyes on Him and on the "things" that are truly important in this world....money cannot buy us more time. The blood of Jesus did buy us more time....it bought us eternity if we will let it.
Try Alabama... They had 21 consecutive singles go to #1 after being released... "Old Flame, "Love In the First Degree", "40 Hour Week", just to name a few....
Since you loved this song by Kansas then you should react to Jordan Knight's CLOSE MY EYES..... That song will make you be surprised on the backing track and the way the arrangement of the song was record..... I know I was and I know the song that it sampled used the way the rhythem of the song goes..... Still both songs can match perfectly if you can find the same beat that CLOSE MY EYES have then you can mix the song after another or do a mashup of the songs..... By the way Jordan Knight is part of the group NKOTB (New Kids On The Block).....
So that was obviously the mellow side of Kansas... Carry On Wayward Son was the totally rockin' side. They also have a more "opera rock" side. The "Leftoverture" album is like that. Wayward Son is the first track on that album. Most of the songs aren't songs I would listen to randomly, but the album is something that should be heard.
I'm still waiting for the band called "Oakland" oh wait. That's not a state, just a state of mind 🙃 Chicago gets my vote because of their longer career. Boston-Boston album is hard to beat though. This song is a good reminder of how ridiculous social media is. Talk about dust in the wind. Love that tiny violin though.
Boston, Chicago, Da New York Dolls, L.A. Guns, Kansas, MC5 (Motor City aka Detroit), Atlanta Rhythm Section, Georgia Satellites, Flo Ri Da, Alabama, North Mississippi All Stars. There may be more but I can't think of any. Out of this list I'd probably go with Boston v. Chicago, with the North Mississippi All Stars in third. Just my choices, have your own.
This man seems to get it...as do I. But why is it then that I don't act on it and "seize the day" so to speak? I suppose Kerry was right when he said we are hopelessly human.
Chicago may have had the most hits, Boston may have been the most influential, But Kansas has the greatest 2 songs in rock radio ever. The 2 greatest songs in recorded music history. Led Zeppelin, The Rollin Stones, The Who, ain't got jack shit on Kansas
The message in this song that touches me is “all your money won’t another minute buy”. They have beautiful harmonies. RIP Robby Steinhardt
But unfortunately that is not true all the time. Better access (more money) to healthcare can buy more minutes in life.
So sad, violinist Robbie Steinhardt passed away not long ago. He was truly amazing and he brought something very unique to Rock.
Robbie was a classically trained violinist.
As always Biz, your analysis is spot on. At 62 years old, I find this song more relevant than ever. Rock on.
Kansas is such a stunning group. Kerry is nothing short of a lyrical genius.🌾
This is truly one of the deepest rock songs ever written - and also one of the most beautiful to listen to.
This Classic HITS LIKE A BRICK!!
The Ides Of March "Vehicle"
All I Wanted and Point of No Return are awesome songs by them. This band is awesome
this makes me cry
Rolled a ton of seeds off this album cover.
🎸💯 Kansas definitely killz it‼🤯🔥

Great band, great song
Thank you Biz for doing more Kansas. I love your show, your smile and humor. You're awesome!

Exceptional lyrics filled with truth. Thank you for sharing.
The way that you like the acoustic and well written songs, I know for sure you'll like this.
"Nothing lasts forever but the Earth and sky." "All your money won't another minute buy." Truth!
What is good is just what you make it in your time!
Beautiful song really makes you think loved your review.
Love that you always get the schlerics.
Chicago by far. They have that depth.
I like listening to you talk 👍🏼 Your observations are spot on!
Amazing song, soft rock done right
This song will be played at my funeral!
☮️💜
Miracles out of Nowhere / The Wall & Song for America are just a few more exceptional jams from Kansas
Love The Wall and Song For America
There are only a handful of people alive today that will be talked about 200 years from now
❤ I forgot to say, stoop down also by Jay geils Band two fantastic songs ****❤
Some great songs from them are "Play the Game Tonight" ( thats a different singer John Elefante 1982), "All I wanted" ( Steve Walsh is back singing,1986) ,"Point of Know Return" ( yes I spelled it right lol) , "The Wall" , "Fight Fire With Fire", & my personal Fav "People of the SouthWind" ! The acoustic guitar is a good as any mantra for meditation!!
To Answer Your Question,, If We Are Going By Groups With The Largest Catalog Of Classics,, That Would Be Chicago.
I always interpreted this song as having the theme of humility. The things that the world tells us to strive for are all vanities (wealth, power, prestige, etc.), and in the end they are without value to our eternal souls, as insignificant as dust in the wind.

Such a great song. Even after all this time!!! Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see!
another song along these lines is the Alan Parsons Project-Time. Well worth a listen.
"Man thou art dust, and to dust thou shall return".
Back in the day when this was hot for some reason Kansas NEVER played in Nebraska. I lived there so a buddy and I had to go to

I still have this LP./Album.
Undeniable classic with a poignant meaning
Violin solo is also just dope as hell
Chicago
You’re right - life IS too short to not subscribe. That’s why I subscribed months ago. 😊💜💕💜💕
😁🙌🏿🙌🏿💯
This is my favorite song from the groups that have city/state names (Kansas, Chicago, Boston)

Kansas/Point Of No Return studio version
"Poetic" is a great word for this song. You might want to check out "Miracle Out of Nowhere" or "Cheyenne Anthem", both off the Leftoverture album. Keep up the good work...
Cheyenne Anthem is 🔥
Played at my mom's funeral 😔
Bill "all we are is dust in the wind dude"
Ted "dust...wind...dude..."
Socrates "like sands through the hourglass these are the days of our lives"
And all your money won't another minute buy
☮️💙💙💙🔥
Kansas - The Wall is a great song
We shouldn't be so arrogant to think that we are so special. What we do and say does matter , but we are just drops of water in an endless sea.
Here's a later track (after Steve Walsh moved on in 1981 - replaced by John Elefante on lead vocals) - "Play The Game Tonight": czcams.com/video/W2azO25JtFo/video.html
This song started as a finger picking exercise.
I love what you take away from these songs. This one has been one of those in the background of my entire life from the early teenage years to now. I will admit, I've never bought an album from Kansas, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy them because I do. Very much. I'm glad you reacted to it!
Between Kansas, Boston or Chicago it's a hard pick but I'd definitely say Kansas is the best but they are all AMAZING....
Friend...I liked how you were moved by the truths of this song. Although we are insignificant compared to the creator of the universe....He still loves us with an everlasting love. We need to keep our eyes on Him and on the "things" that are truly important in this world....money cannot buy us more time. The blood of Jesus did buy us more time....it bought us eternity if we will let it.
the song has a Biblical reference as well which makes it timeless.
Toronto
You should also listen to "Song for America" , If you do listen for the lesson of how we have destroyed the gift we were given.
Try Alabama... They had 21 consecutive singles go to #1 after being released... "Old Flame, "Love In the First Degree", "40 Hour Week", just to name a few....
I would put Chicago first, but only their 70's stuff. In the 80's they became too soft. Second is close between Boston and Kansas
You were talking about how short life is when you did, Dream On by Aerosmith.
I think we can look at it like our life doesn't matter at all, and also that...it's ALL that matters. To me, it's both.
Anything from Kansas is alright
The brother is gonna love this, but that's not a hard guess.
Since you loved this song by Kansas then you should react to Jordan Knight's CLOSE MY EYES..... That song will make you be surprised on the backing track and the way the arrangement of the song was record..... I know I was and I know the song that it sampled used the way the rhythem of the song goes..... Chicago without a doubt, but only while Terry Kath was around.
Kansas - PORTRAIT ( HE KNEW )
Closet Chronicals also kilks me.
I'm still waiting for the band called "Oakland" oh wait. That's not a state, just a state of mind 🙃
Chicago gets my vote because of their longer career. Boston-Boston album is hard to beat though.
This song is a good reminder of how ridiculous social media is. Talk about dust in the wind. Love that tiny violin though.
This is what Buddha was trying to get at. Nothing is permanent.
Thought of one more, Buffalo Springfield, for what it's worth.
1. Kansas
2. Chicago
3.Boston
For Kansas, do The Wall or Icarus/Borne on Wings Of Steel next. Sorry Boston fans, 1 great album...IMO
This man seems to get it...as do I. But why is it then that I don't act on it and "seize the day" so to speak? I suppose Kerry was right when he said we are hopelessly human.
Well technically, Boston and Chicago are cities, so, best band named after a state would be Kansas LoL 🤣
Biz❤ would you please do a reaction on Jay geils Band🎉 Detroit breakdown
Sounds like an romantic love song but it's not
Deep
Chicago may have had the most hits, Boston may have been the most influential, But Kansas has the greatest 2 songs in rock radio ever. The 2 greatest songs in recorded music history. Led Zeppelin, The Rollin Stones, The Who, ain't got jack shit on Kansas
Point of no return.
boston
Flo Rida 😂
😂so today I learned Flo Rida is from Florida🤯
Tiny violin!!!!! lol
Not a dig man, defiantly think more
