The state legislature didn't cut the school budget this year, in fact it increased... Nor is the state spending taxes for this stadium, only selling bonds... On the other hand the teachers do WANT more money, all government bureaucrats do... Of course the teachers could go on strike, but alas, their current contract hasn't expired...

I recall when Bob Short moved the Washington Senators to Dallas/Fort Worth. Short sold the team soon thereafter even though Arlington Stadium was by no means a MLB stadium. Arlington Stadium was a minor league ballpark that doubled its seating capacity by adding 18 thousand outfield bleacher seats. Wash, rinse, repeat! Including Short during the past 50 years the Rangers have gone through SIX different ownerships. Probably why the Rangers haven't won a lot of pennants...

Real Estate 101.... The city of Oakland IS the landlord, not the Oakland A's. The city of Oakland IS responsible for the sad state of the Oakland Coliseum, not the Oakland A's. When your lease is about to expire, if your landlord desires you sign a new lease, the landlord is most likely willing to make improvements, such as new paint, carpet, kitchen appliances, and even a new toilet. Without any doubt whatsoever the city of Oakland IS a BAD landlord.

    • @serafinacosta7118

It goes to the letter of the contract.
Most commercial real estate leases are triple net , where the lessee assumes property insurance , taxes , and improvements.
The landlord or lessor, becomes responsible to the building’s structural integrity. Which usually is roof and walls , and nothing else.
So plumbing , electrical , turf , facilities become the domain of the A’s.
Once again , letter of the contract needs to be seen.

That force exists in the form of an unholy alliance between the three television networks and the sports print medium. 7:03 "but this really wasn't Oakland's fault."
    Bullcrap. Let me explain why.
You're not wrong in blaming John Fisher and the A's ownership group for doing all the wrong that they did. However, you ARE wrong in basically letting the Oakland city government off the hook in this issue. As you said, it takes two to tango in negotiations, and I'm sorry but I don't see any proof whatsoever that the city of Oakland ever negotiated in "good faith", as Mayor Sheng Thao put it. Do you see what Oakland as a city is dealing with, putting baseball aside? Whose fault is that? Oakland city government. They had at least 20 years to get a new stadium deal done with the A's, and the politicians dragged their feet every chance they got. If the local government truly cared about keeping the A's (or any pro sports team) in Oakland, they would have gotten a deal done instead of the nonsense we've seen.
There are no good guys/heroes in this story. I see nothing but bad guys/villains jockeying for position, and of course the fans are the ones who get hurt the most. You can't 100% blame the A's for not wanting to wait forever for Oakland politicians to get their act in gear while playing in a collapsing Coliseum and settling for Las Vegas. Plenty of blame to go around imo.

You’re right except Oakland unfortunately called their bluff and cancelled negotiations. Not that they couldn’t open up again behind the scenes. Go A’s!

Most likely Populous will dig out one of their ballpark blueprints from their desk and slot it into whatever property the A's and the city of Las Vegas choose. Populous will use whatever construction materials required to fit within the budget as they usually do this throughout the nation with all of their designs... Although they cannot control government graft...
