When this movie originally came out, it was quite terrifying. Being a remake of a Japanese horror, it was the first time most American audiences had seen such a ghost story. I remember it being one of the first horror movies that ever gave me chills/goosebumps in the theater. It was funny hearing Raeen say he got goosebumps from it too. The parodies like Scary Movie and so many sequels and similar movies have really dulled the impact of this film to modern audiences, but I really enjoyed seeing them react with fresh eyes and reminded me of that feeling of seeing it opening night back in 2002.

Sarru has done a complete 180 in the past year or so. He believes he will become stronger by watching horror, and it must be true. I was so frustrated watching him on the very first VR experience quite a while back when he was new to the channel. They went to the mall and sat in a crazy VR chair with a scary theme and he didn't open his eyes the entire time. 😂

Back in the early 2000s, after the Ring remake, Americans remade alot of old J Horror like the ones you mentioned, most of them are fairly decent too, but so are the originals too, J horror is usually just more subtle about things

The Ring remake is based on the original Japanese versions, but it's kinda incorrect to call this film Japanese horror, it has Japanese horror roots but it's an American film.
Japan has remade some films from the west too, but we wouldn't call those films western horror, since the new versions are made in Japan
