When this movie originally came out, it was quite terrifying. Being a remake of a Japanese horror, it was the first time most American audiences had seen such a ghost story. I remember it being one of the first horror movies that ever gave me chills/goosebumps in the theater. It was funny hearing Raeen say he got goosebumps from it too. The parodies like Scary Movie and so many sequels and similar movies have really dulled the impact of this film to modern audiences, but I really enjoyed seeing them react with fresh eyes and reminded me of that feeling of seeing it opening night back in 2002.
I hope someone can explain to Raeen that lighthouses projected powerful lights to serve as navigation aids to ships at sea. Many have become obsolete in this era of technology, but they are revered for the nostalgia and history they represent.
Sarru has done a complete 180 in the past year or so. He believes he will become stronger by watching horror, and it must be true. I was so frustrated watching him on the very first VR experience quite a while back when he was new to the channel. They went to the mall and sat in a crazy VR chair with a scary theme and he didn't open his eyes the entire time. 😂 I believe I'm seeing Sarru grow into a man via the magic of the Internet. 😅 Hooray for Sarru 🎉
I like the American version of the Ring a lot, but when I saw the original Ringu I thought Sadako was super creepy because you never see her face. I really like the effects in the American version, though.
My friends and I saw this movie in college. I got goosebumps from fear the moment the boy said, "You helped her?" And even though I realized Samara was going to come out of the well at the end, I was still terrified while it was happening. My friends and I were clutching each other in terror during that scene!
Need to show more films where women are the leads because Raeen seems to think that a male lead is the standard. I know in Bollywood although not as much as male leads there are films wirh a female lead.

I had to turn all my tvs facing the wall after I saw this movie and I had nightmares for weeks! I'd love to see them react to the Blair Witch Project since it's another film that completely terrified me when it came out.

Lol at all the people saying the original is far superior, no one seems to realise the original Ringu was a tv movie that came out in 1995, where Sadako is a naked ghost, that was the actual original, not the 1998 version you all are thinking of. Silly purists thinking the original is always better, don't know much about the actual franchise really, probably never read the books either.
I'm not sure if it's a translation issue or they're talking and not hearing what's being said but they don't understand why the mom killed the girl, why the father died or the man in the end. It should be explained why a copy of the tape was made and why the girl was killed. I think Raeen saw scary movie that's why he said he's seen this before. That's why its not a good idea to show parodies of films they never seen.
But that's Scary Movie 3. That one is about The Ring. They should also watch Signs and 8 Miles to fully 'get' Scary Movie 3 Scary Movie 4 is The Village, The Grudge, War of the Worlds I can't remember Scary Movie 2.

I saw this about 20 years ago and just could not handle it. It was so hopeless and disturbing. It's one of the only films that stuck with me and I could barely sleep for three days. I felt truly physically nauseous after watching it. If you haven't seen this I don't know if I can recommend it to others. It's just a lot.

Raeen and Sarru the light houses were used to navigate ships from night time going and wrecking on the shores where they may be rocky areas. Now days ships are equipped with navigation gear.
The original versions was the best, Japanese horrors, very scary there was a photography game too I used to play that was similar. Try and find the original ring

Interesting that you label this "American Horror". In fact, this is a remake of a Japanese classic and is in the style of JAPANESE Horror which was very different than the typical American style horror genre.
Babu: It's not the rainy season. This movie takes place in Seattle, my home, and it's usually raining here. It makes everything nice and green but it can be a little depressing.
This was way better than the original. Ringu was pretty campy compared to this and I couldn’t help but laugh at all the victims and eventually fell asleep bc it moved so slowly. I rewatched it but it was not worth the time, I liked the suspense of this movie a lot more.

I have seen several movies that was supposed to film in Japan. Like The Ring, Dark Water, The Grudge, and Pulse. But its remake for America. The Grudge still get me every time. But The Ring, I cannot sit still each part where everything jump out from your screen. Another example scary movie was "The Eyes" i didn't like that movie. Its was so scary I had to watch funny movies or cartoons. LOL. Now Paranormal Activity series good. But I like the first two. After they made more, its no fun anymore. Only scariest movies I have seen was "The Exorcist" and "The Conjuring" oh and "The Serpent and the Rainbow". And still scared the hell out of me. Watched it first time when I was in my mid 20. My mother wouldn't let me watch Serpent and the Rainbow that was dated back 1988. My ex husband sat with me to be sure I'll be ok. I saw it once, never again. I do love all horror movies. I lived alone and will not watch it alone. LOL.

Back in the early 2000s, after the Ring remake, Americans remade alot of old J Horror like the ones you mentioned, most of them are fairly decent too, but so are the originals too, J horror is usually just more subtle about things

The Ring remake is based on the original Japanese versions, but it's kinda incorrect to call this film Japanese horror, it has Japanese horror roots but it's an American film. Japan has remade some films from the west too, but we wouldn't call those films western horror, since the new versions are made in Japan

That is simply not true. Both films have their own strengths. Ringu is more subtle J horror but The Ring is an excellent well directed movie. By today's standards Ringu is too slow for alot of people really, and not as scary

The Japanese version is not more frightening, I've seen many reactors bored with it, they were far more scared by The Ring, Ringu is more subtle as it's old style J horror but that does not make it far superior, it's just different. Both films have alot of merits

There is a second movie The Ring Two, it has more information about the little girl and how it started and what happened after the first movie.

Poltergeist is a very different movie really, The Ring is more of a noir mystery about a cursed video tape, not a haunted house story

That is simply not true. Both films have their own strengths. Ringu is more subtle J horror but The Ring is an excellent well directed movie.
By today's standards Ringu is too slow for alot of people really, and not as scary

The actual original was made in 1995 and Sadako is a naked ghost in that. Funny how few people realise this

The Japanese version is far superior, and more frightening. As they don't speak English, you should have shown them that version. This one is very vanilla.
The Japanese version is not more frightening, I've seen many reactors bored with it, they were far more scared by The Ring,
