The BEST looking forged carbon skinning technique!

  • În this video I'm trying a better way to do some forged carbon skinning. This method involves cutting your own carbon flakes and laying them up one by one for a better looking end result. While it may sound tedious to lay up every flake one by one, it will require less work afterwards compared to other methods! Enjoy!

    I find doing a sanding coat can make the next layer look cloudy even with washing and cleaning stuff when doing chopped carbon so I don’t now. Just do base coat then stick the chopped carbon down then do 3/4 coats of resin then do the cutting around clean up and level out more. Then one last resin coat. Leave for a few days then do the sanding grading before UV clear coat hope this helps anyone

      Good advice. And yes, epoxy resin would go all cloudy because it's still gassing off, and the clear coat isn't allowing the gasses to escape!

    What I've done with interior pieces is.
    Black base layer
    Lay carbon
    1st epoxy layer
    Vacuum bag
    Key epoxy with 120
    Tack rag
    Do another 3 to 6 layers of expoy
    Sand with 60 grit to 400 grit.
    Clear coat
    Sand with 1200
    Sand with 2000
    Cut and polish

    When I did some forged carbon skinning to my interior, i used the easy composites chopped tow, but its a bit too much if a fabric texture and gives annalmost fluffy appearance. I really like this syle, so I think I'm goingnto guve it a go.
    Nice work 🍻👍

      Thanks! 100% with you on the easycomposites chopped carbon, I'm not gonna do any other skinning method any longer besides this one 👌

      I had the same so wait till sticky’s then pull apart the chopped carbon and lay as flat as possible. Then add more if needed use a metal roller to help flatten. Then get a plastic shopping bag and put the part inside and pull tight twist the end and tape up it’s better than vac bag so won’t push out of shape

    Awesome project!! Just one question, doesn't using clear coat 2 part resin with your airbrush ruin it? Won't some of it sediment inside? is it not an issue? I would love to try but i dont want to ruin my only airbrush

    Per un miglior risultato e soprattutto per una miglior compattazione , quando hai fatto il MOSAICO e bagnato con la resina METTI TUTTO IN UN SACCO E FAI IL VUOTO , la superficie verrá subito liscia e lo spessore più basso...una scartata e puoi verniciare subito 😉

    Hi buddy! Could you advise for how long did you wait after applying the carbon on the black epoxy? Did you fully dry the “wetted” carbon layer or just wait few hours for the B-stage and then continue with the epoxy layers?

    • @ilhankapic5473
      @ilhankapic5473 Před 6 měsíci

      Hey might not be the person you wanted but maybe the person you need. It's imperative to wait for the B stage, it's one of those crucial moments in my experience, it really makes the carbon stick solidly.

    • @LXGspec
      @LXGspec  Před 11 měsíci

      Usually 2 hours for reaching the b-stage for the xcr resin at room temp, but different epoxies/hardener combos need a different amount of time! Just wait for a while and do it when it's super sticky but no longer comes off easy!

      I get all my stuff from easycomposites.eu pretty much. The best advice I'd say is just trying yourself at it, experience is what matters a fair bit in composites work, but at the same time it's not rocket science in terms of such diy projects!
