    @the80h Yes, but gymnasts do more than running off of walls and jumping. They do it with form, grace, many rotations and flips, and that's only floor. They use three other apparatuses as well. Plus, that's only artistic gymnastics. There's also trampoline, rhythmic, acrobatic, and a few others. Gymnastics is the hardest sport in the world. These gymnasts above are collegiate. If you saw the Olympic and World champions, you'd be shocked.

  • @Tripps2564
    @Tripps2564 Před 11 lety +4

    I think pound for pound, agility, strength and balance are required more in gymnastics than most any other sport, but the simple issue is that at the professional level the most attention is given to the most entertaining sports and the most marketable ones. Perhaps because of a mix of sexism (gymnastics is still seen as a girl thing, which shouldn't matter) and a general lack of understanding of the points system gymnastics probably won't grow to the level of Football or Basketball

    • @brookewilson7246
      @brookewilson7246 Před 3 lety +1

      What do you mean the level of football or basketball? Because gymnastics is way harder than both those sports.

    in my book, propriocepsis does not equal spacial awarness... it is only where the body parts are compared to each other, not compared to space. Spacial awareness comes from the visual / sensory / vestibular system

    @the80h I hope you're not saying that free runners will be equal to gymnasts (especially those in artistic gymnastics) because there's no way that any other sport will be equal to gymnastics. And that's not just physically; it's mentally as well. To be frank, free runners won't hold a candle up to the talent of gymnasts.

    ChainChomp2 It probably has to do with the fact that AG is much more popular than Rhythmic or Trampoline in the US, and always has been. Those disciplines are almost nonexistent compared to popularity of AG. If you go over to Russia Rhythmic dominates over there.

  • @ShawnVikaKomova2012
    @ShawnVikaKomova2012 Před 12 lety +1

    @the80h Of course that's all very impressive, however I wouldn't consider that strict form. By the way, parkour isn't the same as free running according to "experts" so that last video shouldn't have been sent unless you know what sport you are "endorsing" to me. I suggest you watch Daiane Dos Santos on floor, Elena Produnova on vault, Shawn Johnson on beam, and Beth Tweddle on bars. That's only women's events too. There's men's as well.

    These are wimpy gymnasts, look at Simone Biles on Vault, Floor Exercise or Balance Beam, McKayla Maroney on Vault or Gabby Douglas on Vault, Floor Exercise, Uneven Parallel Bars or Balance Beam...that is some serious difficult international elite gymnastics, the vast majority of college gymnasts are ex-elite that never made the Olympic team. Olympians have much higher difficulty in their routines.

      These aren’t wimpy gymnasts. These gymnasts are very hard workers and most people can’t even dream of doing things even half as difficult. They may not be doing things as complex as the Olympic level would, but that does not make them wimpy.

  • @ChainChomp2
    @ChainChomp2 Před 12 lety +1

    I don't get why it's just called "gymnastics" here in the US? There are Rhtyhmic and Trampolining programs here but they aren't nearly as successful, but other countries always seem to call it "artistic gymnastics"...but that's probably assuming artistry in the US is done at the bare minimum. LOL!

  • @the80h
    @the80h Před 12 lety

    @ShawnVikaKomova2012 let me first say, I'm not saying gymnastics isn't amazing. parkour is very specific. freerunning is seen as movement (parkour, tricking, so on). freerunners work on strict form just a different form. what you think good form in gymnastics is different from them. also realize gymnastics has such a huge background. parkour is extremely young. we dont have coaches ,any guidelines, or specific events we participate in. im saying give it some time. it will be up there

    um recognition??? The women's gymnastics always gets recognized but while the men are barely thought of even though they have more events not to mention the amount of strength / swing skills per event in comparison.
    love our women gymnastics but the men do so much more for less reward "recognition"

    • @majanielsen3188
      @majanielsen3188 Před 8 lety +5

      +Parker Toliver Hey there. I completely get where you are coming from! I'm a girl gymnast, and I agree that men's gymnastics also deserves recognition. I just don't understand why you think that girls gymnastics is easier. (You may not have meant it like that, but that is how it looks) I would just like to say that women gymnasts also have a tremendous amount of muscle, but women's bodies aren't really meant for muscle building, so they don't get as big as the men. Percentage wise, they are probably about the same. Also, since male gymnasts' muscles are clearly visible and you guys don't do the dancing part of floor routines, you all aren't looked at as dancers. (I may be wrong, but just my experience) A lot of times, women gymnasts are kind of looked at as pansies, and weak, especially by people that don't know the sport. I think that men's and women's gymnastics are equally difficult and that both deserve the same recognition. :)

    • @exiledrabbit
      @exiledrabbit Před 8 lety +1

      +Maja Nielsen I would say men's gymnastics might be harder because men compete 6 events instead of 4. In addition of those 4 events 3 of them (vault/floor/beam)are somewhat similar basic skills and talent can translate between them, whereas in men's gymnastics only 2 of the 6 are remotely similar (floor/vault) so you have to learn 5 entirely different sets of mechanics for men's gymnastics and only 2 for women.

    • @KulturalnyWilk
      @KulturalnyWilk Před 8 lety

    • @alansanon01
      @alansanon01 Před 8 lety +2

      +Zoe Purcell A sport isn't hard based on the amount of events it has. If it was, then the decathlon is the hardest.

    • @alansanon01
      @alansanon01 Před 7 lety

      I basically just said that it doesn't matter how many events gymnasts do. Even if there are things that gymnasts do that cheerleaders can't even dream of, there are also things that cheerleaders do that gymnasts can do so neither sport is harder.
      And i'm sure there are sports that are harder than both.

    @JohnPhilipSousa519 freerunning is gymnastics in urban environments, theres no set obstacles, no padding. Traceurs have gymnasts, sprinter, long jump, climber, & other qualities that they have 2 B good at with precision. U have 2 constantly know ur changing environment. the mental part of freerunning would B more then gymnasts to constantly check environments figure out distance, power needed. gymnastics has been around 4 years, freerunning is just starting so theres not as much years behind it.
